Man, were they the worst ever, or what?

There were a couple of good sentimental commercials that I liked, but there really weren't any funny commercials that I saw.

What did you guys think?

Totally on board. Boring! Definitely wasn't into the halftime show either.

Yeah, the special effects were excellent, but man.............Katy Perry sucks as a singer.

I did like John Legend and that Hispanic girl before the game.

Why do they bother rating these commercials afterward?

As long as they keep using horses and puppies Budweiser will get rated #1 every year.

I liked the old guy and the run away blue pill.

Terrible year for ads, but there were a few good ones.

I liked the snickers Brady bunch commercial and the Loctite one among a few others.

So can someone explain something to me?

It was my understanding that several of the commercials were released beforehand in the days leading up to the game. It may have been this board or another board that there was a link to the Brady Bunch commercial, and I actually saw it on Thursday or Friday.

I don't recall this ever happening in years past. I find it odd that they would ruin the surprise. That's kind of part of the fun. Does anyone know why they do this?

the only commercial that made me laugh was Lynch's Progressive commercial. great lead in to that spot with his media week and well played by him to poke fun at himself (and pocket the $$$).

outside of that, I prefer my commercials to be humorous not sad at the Superbowl. a couple sentimental ones work, but it seemed to go over 50% of them this year.

and, apparently, car companies are doing well because it seemed like every company had at least one commercial.

That's happened for at least a few years now. No reason that I'm aware of, other than people are impatient.

Half the time I stopped paying attention before I even realized it was a car commercial..

I walked out of the room when the "awkward girl" revealed to be joining the Marines, then everyone yelled to tell me it was a car commercial..

The best one IMO was the Cruise commercial, whatever quote that was was awesome..

That Cruise commercial was my favorite as well ... the quote was by JFK and it is very famous, especially in the eastern US around the beach/ocean ... great statement

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

well, then you likely missed out that absentee dads can make everything better by once randomly picking their kid up in a Nissan.

and, someone should probably tell them that the point of Cat's in the Cradle is that the son ends up following his dad's example and making all the same priority mistakes. but hey, apparently they thought it would be a good way to sell cars.

The Dead Kid one has to be one of the worst commercials ever. What exactly were they thinking? Let's make parents who are already overly paranoid these days even more paranoid and give everyone else a nice downer in the middle of the Super Bowl.

The Nissan one wasn't much better.

I've seen a lot of website bagging on the GoDaddy spot as well, but I actually thought it was 900% classier than the usual dross they trot out for the game. I actually liked that one.

As for the best ones, I thought the Snickers Brady Bunch was the best of the bunch. I also think I'm alone in not really liking the Budweiser puppy one. It just seemed a little too hokey and formulaic. Cute puppies! Draft horses! Homeward Bound in 30 seconds! The Fiat Blue Pill one was pretty funny. The Dove "Dads" commercial was awesome and touching, if you're a dad. And the Liam Neesen one where he talked about revenge for a video game was good too.

I'm sorry, the whole focus on women gets under my skin.

Like a Girl.

Domestic violence which is focused on women only. Because you know.....only men can be abusive.

and the Sarah Silverman commercial where she says "sorry it's a boy".

The one I liked the best was the Pete Rose Sketcher commercial. The reference to Pete and the HOF was pretty good. I got a pretty good laugh out of that one.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

The NFL was almost unwatchable with the whole "No More" campaign this past year.

At one point it became a source of comedy. They started with a bunch of players comically saying "No more." Then all of a sudden they couldn't say anything and just stare. Then we had some welled up eyes. And finally, they closed with enlisting real actors.

If Ray Rice never embarrassed Goodell we wouldn't have none of it. So not only was it insincere, it was annoying and finally just laughable.

I missed the monkeys!

I think they had some market studies for certain adds that funny was funny but it didn't sell.

I might be in the vast minority...but I thought the kid who never made it into a long life was a good add as there was a large audience and it was based on an Insurance statistic that probably needed to be said. Yeah get all the chemical poisons locked and in check. Yeah don't leave a kid in the bath unattended...heck that one happens several times a month...I just left him for a minute! Sometimes the shocker has to be made especially to some young couples.

Chuckled at the Doritos Plane scenario.

The Go Daddy commercial pulled with the puppy actually wouldn't have been that bad and maybe funny shown after the Budweiser commercial as it was so so similar except for the ending.

I've been DVRing for quite some time...every commercial I grabbed that controller then realized, ooops SB we watch these commercials.

Not that entertaining agreed.

That was the only one that made me chuckle but it's only because I'm a huge Breaking Bad fan.

When the game went to commercial, I'd get up to eat or refresh my drink (the TV was always in site, I'd just not notice what was on).

I realize people tune into the SB for the game, the commercials, the halftime show, or some combination of those three. No ratio is better than the other. I'm 99% game (.5 on each of the other 2).

I don't cry when I think of domestic violence, and I don't get all tongue tied either. I think that it is a revolting and disgusting act for anyone to hurt someone they profess to love.

I understand that they want to make it seem like the subject is difficult to talk about, but it shouldn't be. "Don't do it!" is pretty straight forward and simple.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

I generally hate Bud Light commercials and their new Up For Whatever platform has been lame in my book, but Human PacMan was pretty sweet.

And Loctite won the super bowl for me. That commercial was amazing. Bring Back the Fanny Pack!

Also...Did anyone venture over to the Puppy Bowl this year? Unwatchable. Was just a festival of plugs and ads and nothing to do with puppies playing. Indefensible!

When it became profitable.

Men, in large part, are not going anywhere as viewership and interest go. The male demographic is bordering on market saturation, i.e., gambling, viewership, fantasy football etc.

However, women are the NFL's newly tapped resource. There has been an enormous push to draw women to the game. Also, there is data that shows, if I recall, a 20% increase in women's involvement in fantasy football which is a huge source of revenue, which leads to increased league-wide interest. It's the next step in expanding the NFL brand and increasing revenue. No longer will the guy be asking his wife if he can go to the game with his buddies, she'll want to go too!

In the end, this shift in advertising shouldn't be surprising, it's just business.
