The funniest thing people that know nothing say about pot is how it's a "gateway drug". Are you kidding? That's like saying alcohol is a gateway drug. Well, wait…maybe it IS a gateway drug to eating chips and cookies. I know back in the late 80's three of us ate an entire bag of Oreo's one night.

B [quote=Cjrae]Interested to see what happens in the schools in Colorado and other states legalizing. If , according to Josh Gordon, second hand smoke can live in the system, our kids will begin arriving at school stoned.
But wait, that's not really a problem we can simply blame the teachers and the system.
this is that nancy grace nonsense. [/ Yes, usual response when you don't like what logic dictates. I will always advocate for children. ...just like Nancy Grace advocates for victims. Even in this case. not really logic. that was a fear based statement you made, just like nancy grace. i was a kid too. guess what? i didn't show up to school stoned. the majority of kids don't. and weed and other drugs are prevalent in a lot of communities. alcohol is legal, yet the majority of kids aren't show up to school drunk. come on now. Swish, really now? You just following PDR's response? Comparing the two drugs of choice is absolutely ludicrous. There is nothing that anyone on this board or elsewhere will ever say to make it o.k. to smoke weed in the presence of a child. EVER!!! Adults do as you choose. Colorado and anyone else can legalize...who cares? Just leave the children out of it. Fear based...I think not. Reality thinking with all my brain cells intact ...perhaps! please, go through this thread and point out where anybody said it was ok to smoke around kids. don't worry, i'll wait. you're trying to say that legalizing weed will make it more exposed to kids. thats fear based. I mean seriously, you and YTown are the reasons kids ask their parents "you used to be a kid? really?" you think anything being legal or not is gonna stop kids from being exposed to it? porn is illegal to minors. but guess what i was figuring out how to get when i was 13+.... cigarettes are illegal to minors. does that stop kids from trying to buy smokes? alcohol is illegal to anyone under 21. but should i even mention prom? wait, let me guess, you didn't go, right? cause you're a good girl who never did anything bad. kids, especially teens with their rebellious asses, will stop at nothing to get what they want, especially when their are told they can't have it. I know, because clearly unlike you, i remember what it was like to be a teenager. I don't smoke around my kids. ever. but do you think just because i don't, it will stop them from smoking weed with their friends? no. Don't need to "go through the thread", Swish. I've seen and smelled it first hand in the classroom. That's worth more than anyone on this thread could ever provide me. It happens and we all know it, admit it. People do expose their kids to smoke.

sure, there are some irresponsible parents out there, but what you're advocating is trying to punish the majority for the few.
There's parents that let their teens drink at home. very few, but should I or anybody else get punished for that?
very few parents willingly expose their kids to weed.
music and movies does that plenty well. you and everybody else knows that.
and once again, you're ASSUMING just because you smell it on kids in school, it must be the parents.
why can't it be other teens who exposed them to it?
why can't it be pop and hip hop music?
why can't it be seth rogan and cheech and chong movies?
why do you guys who want weed illegal never advocate alcohol being legal?

Again, I don't know why you felt the need to take a discussion on the legality of marijuana, and turn it into an attempt to make it look like people are arguing over using drugs in front of their kids. It's like if someone said to me 'PDR, alcohol should be legal' and I replied with 'Are you serious? You think it's OK to drink a pint of Beam and drive your kid to school?'

This has become a joke! On a side note, I tend to look at most issues in a broad scope and in the best interest of children and societal ramifications, not just what is best for a few. So most issues, I will view through the eyes of a child and how/if it may impact our youth. That's all. Drug use does impact our youth whether it be through their role models or direct contact.

OK, can't help you! Sure, you can. Explain to me the relationship between the philosophical statements of 'alcohol should be legal' and 'it should be legal to get drunk and drive your kids to school'. What, outside of the presence of alcohol, ties those schools of thought together?

Colorado just didn't foresee the revenue or were accurate with any predictions.
You must also factor in some of that came from visiting people just because they felt it would be worth visiting Colorado just because you could walk in a store and buy a joint already rolled up.
I suppose it's a good problem to have, just need to get the loose ends buttoned up.

And we are supposed to teach kids to JUST SAY NO??? This has become a joke! No, it hasn't. We, as parents, are supposed to teach our kids right from wrong and instill a set a values in them. Sure, they're going to make mistakes and hopefully learn lessons from them...just as we all did. Marijuana is just as accessible in illegal states as it is in Colorado, and the lessons to be learned and choices to be made haven't changed one bit.

Although both can be harmful in different ways, alcohol can be consumed without harmful physical effects to children who may be in the vicinity. It does not travel through the airways. You can ask as many times as you choose. If you don't get it, I'm so sorry. Not judging here but, I have to wonder how much time some of you spend with your own children when you claim to smoke so much weed but say you never do it around your children and are always on this board. It's not anyone elses life to live.

It's not anyone elses life to live. I guess all those kids who get abused and beating by their drunk parents must be a myth, huh? oh right, since it doesn't travel through the airways, it's not a problem. Let me tell you when I smoke weed: After my kids go to bed at 8, i go outside and smoke. yes, outside. not inside. If i did smoke inside, it would be in the basement with a vacuum that has a tube that goes out the window(you tube it, some crafty stuff there). if i smoke during the day, its while my kids are at school, but the only time i smoke during the day is if I don't have class, which since the school year ends in the summer, its not very often. If i smoke during the day on the weekend, its because my kids are with my parents and plan on being their all day or the weekend. see? not around my kids. My kids have never seen daddy fire up a joint. will my kids realize what i do when they hit high school or so? probably, but by then they already already know what weed is, and hopefully not, but they probably already tried it without me or their mom knowing, because teens are a bunch of snakes. like i said, you're on that nancy grace stuff.

Sounds like you only smoke on days that end with "y". lol, pretty much. Honestly the issue is that nobody can come up with viable reasons it should remain illegal. I've notice that people most stout against weed being legal also happen to be drinkers, and they will defend alcohol until their last breath. I mean think about it. people have an issue with a drug that causes the munchies and to be lazy, yet have no issues with: prescription pain meds, which gets abused all the time, and is one of the leading causes of OD cases. Alcohol: lets not even get into DUI's. also, alcohol is one of the leading causes of domestic violence cases. mental and physical abuse are running rampant in this country, mainly because of alcoholics. cigarettes: yep. don't even need to discuss it. it pisses me off. because people who drink, smoke, and/or pop pills will claim "don't punish us because some people decide to abuse it" so why can't people like me get the same benefit of the doubt? is it because here in america, we like violence over some hippy wishing peace on earth? War on drugs, IMO, is the biggest waste of our taxes, period. We need to take a page out of Portugal's book. They said "Screw it", and decriminalized EVERYTHING in 2001. most of y'all know the results, but for those who don't, here ya go: http://www.businessinsider.com/portugal-drug-policy-decriminalization-works-2012-7heres a quick hitter: http://www.tdpf.org.uk/blog/drug-decriminalisation-portugal-setting-record-straightPortugal decriminalised the possession of all drugs for personal use in 2001, and there now exists a significant body of evidence on what happened following the move. Both opponents and advocates of drug policy reform are sometimes guilty of misrepresenting this evidence, with the former ignoring or incorrectly disputing the benefits of reform, and the latter tending to overstate them. The reality is that Portugal’s drug situation has improved significantly in several key areas. Most notably, HIV infections and drug-related deaths have decreased, while the dramatic rise in use feared by some has failed to materialise. However, such improvements are not solely the result of the decriminalisation policy; Portugal’s shift towards a more health-centred approach to drugs, as well as wider health and social policy changes, are equally, if not more, responsible for the positive changes observed. Drawing on the most up-to-date evidence, this briefing clarifies the extent of Portugal’s achievement, and debunks some of the erroneous claims made about the country’s innovative approach to drugs. ________________ decriminalized all the drugs, and put more focus on teaching health centered approach not only cut down addiction dramatically, but also cut down STD's and HIV cases from needles and such. and overall, the drug use in the country went DOWN. I mean seriously, how is it that Americans haven't figured it out yet? When you tell people not to press the red button, guess what they're gonna do? Anyway, this war on drugs, and especially weed, is a joke. I mean these guys out here are getting more jail time for smoking a joint than getting a DUI. that makes ZERO sense. just ridiculous. I gotta worry about going to jail over smoking a god given planet, yet you mofo's can pop pills like it ain't no thing.

If some legal things are harmful, does that mean that other harmful things should be legal? Isn't that a logical fallacy? Isn't it funny how people who promote smaller government always seem to change their minds about how government should be involved in our life when it goes along with what they believe the government should regulate? Look, I don't have a horse in this race. I haven't smoked weed for some years now. But I did smoke it for decades. My daughter is an accountant and quite successful. I made a very decent living. There weren't any of these negative effects that so many speak of. Many of my friends who smoked were professional people with good families and quite a few of them were Christians. People either want government out of our life or they don't. It's not for people to pick and choose, or to pass judgment on others what type of parents they are if they smoke weed. Either people wish to legislate government into our life or they don't. They can't have it both ways to suit their own belief system. Sorry Ytown. This was more of a general statement than directed toward you specifically.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Yeah, if anything should be regulated, its prescription drugs. Much more harsh effects and risk of addiction. America has lived too long with the "this is your brain on weed" and other non factual statements about pot. Fact of the matter is, the scientific world has really proposed an abundance of "theories" yet not much fact and proven statements.

Yeah, if anything should be regulated, its prescription drugs. Much more harsh effects and risk of addiction. How do you regulate them any more than they currently are? (I know what I'm about to say is in theory only, but....) You can't get a prescription drug with out a prescription from a doctor. You can't get them anywhere but from a pharmacy. You can't sell them - legally anyway. Like I said - that's the theory behind the process.....so how do you regulate prescription drugs even more? Not pointing fingers, not arguing - just asking a question.

You now have to visit the doctor in person for a new prescription every time.

Last time we had narcotic pain pills in this house was, 10 years ago? Wife had surgery....started her off with vicodin. That wasn't working, so we got, over the phone if I recall correctly, percocet. That didn't handle it. So I called the surgeon (he had given us his number for this exact reason), explained to him that my wife was still in an extreme amount of pain. Said he'd write a script for - oxycodone? Is that the name? Oxycontin? THAT script he couldn't call in - I had to go to the hospital the next day to pick it up, then to the pharm. (on a side note, upon further follow up with the surgeon, he determined he had knicked my wife's kidney during the surgery - so the pain was from infection.) Regardless - like I said, that's been a long, long time.

And again, I feel I should add that abuse is easy. (maybe WAS easy, I don't know) Have a friend that got addicted to ativan. Went from the prescribed 3 pills a day to as many as 8 a day. Somehow, this person never ran out.
Ordering from out of country? I don't know how it worked.......that's why I asked about "how do you regulate it more?"

For one who is prescribed pain medication, what I can say is that a pain doctor can write two prescriptions in one visit. At least in Tennessee. He can write it for the month of your visit and then one for the following month. It's true that it can't be written in the form of a refill, but can be written on separate prescriptions.
Actually percoset and oxycodone are the same thing. Oxycodone is the active ingredient. Dosages can vary however.
Oxycontin is a time released version of the same thing.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Not pointing fingers, not arguing - just asking a question. Doctors by nature prescribe harsh prescriptions when a lesser, safer alternative could be issued. Example: My friend recently went to the docs for nothing more than a pain in her neck. It was caused from sleeping in an awkward position and the doctor prescribed her a prescription of perkesette (sp?) which is a upper tier pain killer. Did she need such a harsh and strong pain killer? I'd say not. Like you hinted, not sure what could be done or anything, but I'd view it as an issue.
