"We sit together at away games, not home games,'' Haslam said. "Ray's a big boy. And if you've ever been with these GMs, they're texting people all the time and it may be somebody watching a game at a different stadium. So I think it's enough said on that." Asked if Farmer knew he was breaking a rule with in-game texting, Haslam said, "You'll have to ask Ray that. I don't know that." http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2015/02/jimmy_haslam_on_ray_farmers_te.html
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

again you were going way out of the lines. Too much imagination in there. I mean you can think what you want but to take that quote and state what you did and remotely suggest it as FACT...Just not close to being fact.
Yet you are posting innuendo about Shanny as fact. You can't have it both ways. Well....actually, on this board you can. As long as you side w/the majority, that is.

Why do you pull this crap with me...WHY?
Any thing I have said about Shanny I go out of my way to state it as my opinion. I'll say I have no proof but think. I'll say its my opinion. Don't go there Vers. Get out of this funk you are in and start posting. Why would say an UNTRUTH like that about me. Besides the fact Shanny is your boy for some reason. As more facts come out from people who were up there close and personal - The more of Spoiled Brat Snake he is turning out to be. That's right we are not to believe Pettine - just Shanny's 32 point of what is wrong with the Browns...that is truth coming from that Selfish Snake.
Can't believe you went and pulled that crap on me Vers. Don't agree with me fine. But how dare you go and basically blatantly call me a hypocrite!

I liked Shanny because of his coaching ability. Other than that, I have no interest in the guy. Sheesh! This love affair stuff is maddening.
tab, it is ALL speculation w/a few facts thrown in. It's just about how one perceives things.
Look, I am playing fair. It's not all black and white. I praise Pettine. He is part of this regime. I just defended Farmer and said he earned another chance for manning-up. It's not me that is drawing a line in the sand and saying this side is all good and this side is all evil.

This I know but stuff (quotes) from the horses mouths carry a lot more weight. You believe all that came from Shanny and nothing that came from Pettine.
But I could care less about your opinion - I've been fair and steadfast I've stated that Shanny had a good scheme and he was a good play caller. Football wise with Shanny - Late in the season when things were falling apart. I think he gave up. My personally that is what I think.
But character wise and you seem to be a big promoter of character. His is not that high. There were character issues coming from Wash. And the more we hear about him w/Browns more character issues. The fact that OBrian new coach of Atlanta stated him and Shanny had talked about working together for a while now. Doesn't tie in with a lot of character things he did.
I am not arguing his football he is good in that area. He's a lousy leader for a reason and he is not a Team guy.
But don't act as if I'm upset because we disagree. I am upset only because you insinuated I was a Hypocrite. And I don't stay upset...24 hours later I could care less or think less of you. Just I know if I said that about you...oh boy.
I truly try with all posters - To do unto others as I would have them do unto me.

There are facts and then there are Truths.
Fact Farmer sent the Text and said he will be accountable.
Fact Shanny blew the whistle about the text.
These are facts. Now the truth about each of these men's characters I think lie with this statement. And yes, its an original Quote by me.
TRUTH are Mirrors, You only see in them what you already have inside of you.
Me I do not have a high regard for Shanny and I think highly of Farmer. I do see the truth according to what I have in my heart.
You, you don't have a high regard for Farmer and I am pretty sure you think highly of Shanny. In most cases Truth is was we already have in our hearts.

Blew the whistle? How do you know that?
Look, I have been very fair in judging this regime. I even defended Farmer on this very thread. I liked Shanny because he could coach. I am not "in love" w/him.
I just look at it like this----------if I were the OC and the GM was sending me texts during games about the playcalling, I would be pissed, too. I would also not like having the GM and team president breaking down film w/the coaching staff. I would not like the FO making personnel decisions for the coaching staff.
I think Shanny had enough and wanted out. I don't blame him.

But that does not mean that Haslam was not involved or that Farmer sent texts at the direction of Haslam.
Farmer took responsibility...

Let's hope not, because if that is true [and I agree w/you that it is a possibility] it means that things are truly terrible in Berea and this team is has dark days ahead.
Let's hope that they learned their lesson and stop interfering w/the coaching staff. No coach would want to coach under such circumstances. Shanny was just lucky enough that he knew he could get another job right away. Not all coaches are that fortunate.

You, you don't have a high regard for Farmer and I am pretty sure you think highly of Shanny. In most cases Truth is was we already have in our hearts. EO...since Shannie ratted out the Browns over the texting, I've paid more attention to comments made by Kyle's dad.
Mike Shanahan has been talking "a lot" lately about his experiences with RG3 and Dan Snyder...none of it positive either.
...I realized, the apple does not fall far from the tree.
Rarely do coaches, owners or front office people do it... "talk out of school"..rat out others in the organization. Most of the time, professionals take the high road.
Knowing that Mike Shanahan's name has been mentioned as a possible HC, after listening to him dissing his former boss and one of his star players..there is no way in hell I would hire Mike Shanahan.
Kyle appears to be just like his dad and will forever be known as a sellout who stabbed the Browns in the back in order to insure his release.
Around the NFL, I'm sure that some organizations took notice of Shannie's actions. Rarely, if ever, does a coach rat out his own team.
Those who want to claim that Farmer texting the sideline is a horrible offense...do you really think that other teams do not text from upstairs to the sideline?
Kyle Shannahan is a "rat" willing to "talk out of school" to get out of a commitment he made to the Browns, because he saw a job he liked better.

j/c Raise your hand if you thought Mary-Kay's questions were...huh...not very good!!!! I really enjoyed her asking Ray if he plans to use the 12th and 19th picks moving up to get one of the leading QBs! MKC is the biggest drama queen in the city of Cleveland. She's always writing stories about the latest load of crap that no legitimate Browns fan even cares to read. She's also very untrustworthy towards the team. One minute she is writing a story praising someone in the organization and then the next day for no great reason she writes a story bashing the heck out of the same person. Not cool.

I mean if you hired guys that never had any experience in their respective roles, that felt they were indebted to you, that felt this was their only opportunity at their respective positions, you might be able to get away with things like that a lot more easily. But then who would do that?

Something tells me it is a fairly low level violation. I think a fine is about all that will come of it. I don't think the texts were used for some sort of competitive gain, thus I don't see how losing a pick should come in to play.

It is not documented, but Farmer has no prior history of cheating (that we know of) and similar violations didn't carry any substantial penalty. (I can't remember which team it was, but someone was in trouble for something similar recently and they only got fined.)

Which has a lot to do with why the speculation abounds that a draft pick may be added to the penalty. Let's face it, before the new policy that the NFL on domestic violence, in theory the suspension was two games. I'm sure that AP and Rice understand that's not the case.
The NFL hasn't looked good in the press because of their inconsistency. Questions have certainly been at the forefront on expecting management to face just as much scrutiny as the players.
I believe the reaction the NFL has about what is called Textgate may be bigger than the story of Textgate itself.
Which is why I don't believe anyone has any idea what the punishment might be.

Or texted one of our coaches to do it for him.

I have never had an issue with Text Gate in terms of it being a terrible violation of league rules. It seems rather paltry to me.
My issue is that it screams of dysfunction w/in the FO. No coach wants his superiors questioning his play calls during the game. That is beyond insane. Some coaches may put up w/it, but that is only because they can't get a better opportunity.
All I know is that I hope it stops! A coach cannot be as effective as he normally could be when he has to worry about being questioned DURING THE GAME!

Not trying to take any blame or guilt away from Farmer but if coaches are not allowed to use their cellphones on the sidelines then why do any of the coaches carry them during the game?
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

I am NOT worried about the legality of the issue. It's not a big deal.
What is a big deal is that it is almost impossible to call plays when some idiot upstairs is questioning your play calling.

If you don't like someone texting you plays, shut your phone off. Leave your phone in the locker room. Heck, do like I do - leave it at home. Or simply, ignore it. If you're the o.c. for an nfl team and you have your phone on your belt during a game.......uh, hello? But, if you do have your phone on the sidelines, and you get a text about play calling - simply reply "I'm busy doing the job you hired me to do. We'll talk on Monday."
