Yeah just got barked at. Regardless of how anyone feels about the acquisition at least its good from the standpoint that the team has answered this question and can focus on other crucial aspects of free agency and the draft.

I can only hope that we sign another veteran as well.

Josh McCown is either the wrong answer to a question or just makes you ask more questions.

I think I'd be happier if we re-signed his brother.

If Josh McCown is the right answer then you're asking the wrong question...

I'm sorry, but I don't feel strongly one way or the other on this. Our options were limited to a particular group of less than ideal options, none of whom were dramatically better or worse than the others. I guess the key differences between Hoyer and McCown are that Hoyer knows the personnel, and McCown is fine with knowing he wasn't signed to be "the guy."

Josh McCown was good for five games in his twelve year career. During that time his receivers were Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall.

If he is our starter we are screwed.

All the options were bad. McCown was the worst of all the bad options.

I could have at least talked myself into Hoyer if we re-signed him. McCown gives me no hope.

LOL, here's one of those questions. Did he get benched in TB or was he injured before they moved on from him last season?

Foolish thinking Prp, if we signed his brother we wouldn't get this list closer to touching the floor.

Well.....so we're going into next season with a McCown/Manziel battle?

I dunno about you guys, but i'm severely underwhelmed with the thought of that.

on top of the wack ass logo, possibly the wack "upgrade" to the uniforms...and the potential to once again screw up our first round picks...

Start buying your cases of Jack D right now fellas.

I am with you on that.

For the uninformed, here are McCown's career numbers. They do not inspire confidence.

He's basically Brian Hoyer, but older.

But again, it is a matter of degrees. We were screwed either way. The QB position was never going to be resolved this year. We have a not very good veteran to fill the gap until A. Manziel is ready to at least be better than the veteran, and hopefully more than that, or B. we find ourselves in a better position next year. For now, I really don't see a dramatic difference between Hoyer or McCown, or any of the other available options.

2013 McCown with a solid supporting cast looked pretty good..

2014 McCown with Tampa Bay did not..

That's pretty much my optimistic view on this..

Also, Hoyer wants to be a starter, and will mostly go somewhere he can be named that right away..

McCown may be a guy that can start, but is OK with being a backup if something else comes along..

Hopefully they'll draft Petty or move up to get Mariota so we can hand wring over that instead. fingerscrossed

I know, but its a big middle finger to the fans who presumed to tell Ray Farmer he shouldn't sign McCown. I now think Farmer might be a disaster.

Is the right question: Which FA QB is sure to give us the #1 pick in the 2016 draft? Worked out for the Buccaneers, right?

To add balance to this move the smart play by Farmer would be to ignore free agent receivers and then refuse to draft one in the first three rounds. thumbsup

Welcome aboard... now be better that you had been

We were going to sign a FA QB.

None of the options were good..

But this obviously means we are terrible and will never win a game again..

Ignoring the fact that we won 7 with Hoyer starting.. And yes, McCown is better than Hoyer..

Look folks. It has been widely reported we have reached out to camp Hoyer and nothing has come of that. It's easy to assume they wanted more in terms of money and years then we were willing to pay.

McCowan has worked with our new OC in Oakland. He must know his system. That bodes well for both him and Johnny because if you think the team is giving up on a first round QB draft choice after 1 season you are kidding yourself. I don't know if that has ever happened.

McCown is what? Maybe 35-36 years old. He was real happy to get a 3 year deal. Hoyer was probably wanting 5 and a boatload of signing bonus, etc.

Face it, Johnny Manziel is still the future of this team at QB. Not saying how that is going to work out, but it's stupid to think we are not going to give him a real shot before we move in another direction. McCown is here to maybe start but mostly to help Manziel.

Just take the emotion out of it and you will arrive at the same conclusion as I. Honor Spock today. Think logically. Every move we have made to this point is to help Johnny.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Well, if the plan is to have McCown back up Johnny then the "plan" is to have McCown start after the first couple games. Johnny may or may not get his head together in rehab, but he isn't going to GROW in there. He couldn't stay healthy for two whole games last season. Does anyone expect him to stay healthy an entire season as little as he is, given his propensity to run at the first sign of pressure? One thing we all know for certain... whomever starts at QB in Cleveland sure as hell won't be finishing the season there.

So Johnny Rehab to start, with zero weapons at WR or TE and a new system run by a guy that's never called plays in the NFL..... What could possibly go wrong.... lmmfao

Did you have this post already typed up and just waited to add the name of the FA QB we signed?
