I think that the difference between the 60m and 71m might be that we've signed Hartline, McCown, and 4 tenders.

Ok, normally I am a pretty patient person, but what in the world are we doing, I mean we have to spend $71 MILLION DOLLARS in the next 2 off seasons to be compliant with the NFL cape requirements WHY AREN'T WE DOING IT? Read more before you complain. That is not true. read more. it is true. If the Browns' goal was to reach $89 million each season between 2015-2016, then they would need to spend at least $29.922 million more after this Tuesday (for the 2015 league year), and then $58.405 million more for the 2016 league year. Because they are currently at 99.93%, though, they have room to spare, and over the next two league years, they only need to spend $60.343 million more to be compliant with the 89% rule. That will happen without them even trying, accounting for things like free agents, the draft, extensions, etc. Link As it stands (before player cuts and new signings), the Browns must spend roughly $71 million in cash over the next two years to be compliant with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. http://espn.go.com/blog/cleveland-browns...on-in-cap-spaceespn or a blog site?

At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

j/c Terrance Knighton - DL - Free Agent An anonymous head coach tells NBC Washington that "teams are afraid to sign" free agent DT Terrance Knighton because he's out of shape. Knighton is meeting with the Redskins on Thursday, but has already been passed on by former coaches in Oakland and Chicago. He was expected to be a hot commodity as a run stuffer, and was at one point outrageously seeking $8 million per year. It's not exactly surprising that someone nicknamed "Pot Roast" is out of shape, but Knighton could cost himself all sorts of money by not hitting the open market in the shape he's expected to be in. http://www.rotoworld.com/playernews/nfl/football

I was thinking along these lines when Oakland (Del Rio) didn't sign him.

Terrance Knighton - DL - Redskins Redskins signed NT Terrance Knighton, formerly of the Broncos, to a one-year, $4 million contract. The report that teams were wary of Knighton because he is "out of shape" appears to be true, as Knighton settles for a one-year deal in an effort to rehab his value. It was extremely telling when even new Raiders coach Jack Del Rio, who has always been by Knighton's side, picked Dan Williams over him. Knighton will presumably man the nose tackle spot for the Redskins, replacing Barry Cofield. Related: Broncos Source: Josina Anderson on Twitter http://www.rotoworld.com/playernews/nfl/football

Wow how does that happen, meaning how does a professional who is basically doing a job interview to the highest bidder let himself get out of shape? Man if the difference was a 1 year 4 million dollar contract out of shape and 4 years 20 million in shape I'd definitely put the cheeseburgers down and spend all day in the gym. That's just crazy, like a college SR showing up for the combine out of shape.

Let them sign him. I don't want anything to do with any receivers who can't catch.

No one can say that we are better now then we were with Sheard, Skrine, Cameron, etc. If someone says that they are just drinking the Kool-Aid. With that said, we still have pretty much the entire off-season to try and improve our team. The Cameron fiasco is a low point for me.

Yeah, I hope we have something brewing.........or maybe we just have a great draft. Anything. I just don't feel real positive right now. I actually want to get behind this regime. The main reason is I want the Browns to win and a secondary reason [which is rather shallow] is that I want to show all the idiots who play Regime Wars that moves should be judged individually and collectively, rather than on whether or not "we like" or "don't like" these guys.

It's only a fiasco if you believe the Browns reported it was a done deal. If they truly did say, "...news to us, we only offered a deal, haven't heard back". Then it's not a fiasco, just bad twitter reporting on someone. I'm not going to worry until we hear more.

Here are some of the players that are still available at positions we may need: Corner - Chris Culliver, Sterling Moore, Chris Cook, Tramon Williams, Perrish Cox Tight end - Daniel Fells, James Casey, Jermaine Greshem (though I'm unsure how good he is) Tackle (Defense) - Kenrick Ellis Pass rusher - Derrick Morgan, Brian Orakpo (if he can stay healthy), Anthony Spencer, and if we really want to piss people off -- Greg Hardy

In my head I perceive it as a fiasco because I thought we re-signed Cameron and I wanted him back.
In reality, I know there was probably some sort of miscommunication.

Any of these two would work DT- Ellis is from the Jets if I remember (came out in the draft with Phil Taylor, was pretty highly touted) wouldn't mind another big at DT OLB- I love Rak, just a beast however like you stated his injuries have stacked up...but I'd love to ink him...perhaps he could teach Mingo how to build his frame up. Derrick Morgan is another good young player, scheme versatile too. I'd be surprised to see Hardy go to a 3-4, then again been an odd offseason

I don't think there is any chance we sign Hardy, but our ends play a lot with their hand on the ground in passing situations.

One thing is for sure: This front office is an embarrassment and a fiasco. Patience my friend. Why have patience? Players are leaving us by the droves and nobody but the weakest free agents want to sign. The 2 worst that is... We were bad and now we are worse. Patience is irrelevant now. Incompetency still reigns supreme from the owner to the front office.

One thing is for sure: This front office is an embarrassment and a fiasco. Patience my friend. I'm beginning to agree. Farmer seems to be getting schooled right now. I think he swung and missed on Cole, Cameron, Skrine (but not sure) and Bradford. I don't see anything that says he made a play at all for Foles or even thought of doing it. I understand why he let Hoyer walk after not backing him last year, but McCown and Lewis? He also seemed to be focused on the wrong end of the roster at the beginning of FA. I'm really starting to get the gut feeling that he is in over his head. Haslam paid the price to be an idiot if he wants to be one, but surrounding himself with yes men and guys who like to pat themselves on the back in their private huddles is beginning to like his MO. I'm still open to hoping they get a grip on this and will wait another season or two before I lose my mind about them... but they are trending the wrong way quicker than Stock Market at the end of a Bush Presidency.

We have definitely lost talent, but the talent we have lost is definitely replaceable.
If we go into training camp without replacing Skrine, Sheard, Cameron, etc. then I will be upset. We are two days into the off-season.

Oh I agree that 'most' players are replaceable, but who are these replacements? Where will they come from? I see Hoyer was replaced... So now I'm leary of the one doing the replacement of said players.

Hoyer vs McCown both are career backups nothing more and we have our first round QB we traded up for waiting in the wings.
Skrine lets be honest in Skrine's first 2 or 3 years most on this boardwanted him cut. He was decent but we have always lost guys like buster to teams overpaying they usually just signed with Detroit when they left. We have our first round draft choice a top 10 pick waiting in the wings.
Sheard has all the underachieving upside anyone can ever want in a player. Promise will only get you a higher draft pick. He was a backup to the one armed Mingo last year.
Cameron was soft. He hated contact. he didnt want to block and everytime someone touched him he finished the game on the bench. The only negative of this offseason is that we were willing to pay him 7 million a year. It was foolish.
Rubin loved his hustle and passion but last year he was sleepwalking through games.
I hate saying thism as these guys along with Big Phil were my favorite players on this team but wanting players to achieve greatness is a falsehood and the compensatory picks we are likely to get from these guys far outweigh any production value from them.

I'm glad we didn't resign Cameron. He has only had one season he has done well. JUST ONE out of 4 seasons. Last season he only made 24 catches for 424 yards and just 2 TD. Most of those yards were off of 3 catches which means he sucked for the most part and that was BEFORE he got injured.
Jim Dray and Gary Barnidge combined for the same stats receiving but they can also block. BTW these guys are HUGE in Size at 6'6" and 6'5".

I think when they are in we still have a chance to run the ball. They are not going to turn a simple catch into an 80 yard play but Jim Dray will catch it gets it thrown to. You can praise Cameron all you want but so far he has only performed well in just one season out of the 4 he has played for us.

+1 I'll add that I was disappointed that Skrine was not re-signed...I'm over it already. I'd also add that I'd rather we overpay a guy like Wilfork to eat all the food in the locker room than pay Cameron 7 mil a year to sit on the bench. Many people are waaaaaaay over-reacting to these "departures".
