I wouldn't prefer Austin or Nicks to Bowe, and Crabtree may have a pie in the sky type number right now.
Bowe is not the greatest in the redzone, but when given targets in the past, Bowe has been fantastic in the middle of the field. He and Hartline would really sort out the problems we had last year of not having an intermediate threat outside of Hawkins.
Between those three, we may see a more balanced passing attack, and maybe sneak in Gabriel deep a few times a game. It's not going to be Air Coryell any time soon, but it's not going to look like past iterations of the Browns offense, that's for sure.
I'm mildly optimistic about this offense with or without Bowe. Signing Bowe would also not stop me from drafting a guy like Parker at 12 provided other talents aren't there.
you had a good run Hank.

Jennings, Holmes, Moore, and Nicks are all available as well. They are all crap, might as well sign the cheapest one.

Holmes is the guy from the Raiders right? You can forget about him. They have the right to match our offer. And they have 25 mil to work with

It would be cool if this thread died with the exceptions of 2 posts: 'Browns sign Bowe' or 'Browns won't sign Bowe.' But that's just me.

I'm not sure I would want Crabtree.
Wasn't he a big head case in San Francisco, crying about not getting looks?
He would probably want A LOT of money to come to Cleveland.
Bleacher Report said last night that the Browns and Bowe are apart on the financials of the deal, but that they're still negotiating.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Unless he has other offers, Bowe needs to accept the fact he isn't a stud receiver and quit playing hardball.
I have a feeling that since there still seems to be interest, we have the best offer and he is hoping to play one team against another. Keep goofing around and you end up getting a large bucket of KFC as your gurantee.
I think if I was in charge, I'd tell Bowe to give us an answer in 36 hours. At that point the offer is off the table and we go in another direction. Remind him we have extra draft picks. We don't want to have to use 2-3 on receivers, but we will if that is what we need to do.

They are all crap. Not sure if he is still available but the guy I would like to sign is Reggie Wayne. We will have some young wr's next year (I am hopeful that we draft 1-2). He will be a great example to them of what it means to be a pro. Marvin Harrison taught him he can teach our young guys, I think that he has a couple decent years of production left and even if he gets injured after 6 games, what he brings to the locker room is just as valuable as his production on the field
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

I am not sure how to take this news. I am both happy and sad that we signed him. Happy because we obviously wanted him, but sad because I don't think he is all that good. Now I'm just hoping he can play well.

I guess his agent and Farmer got tired of staring at each other across the table in Berea for the last week. I think the Armistice took less time than this contract.

My guess is that Bowe wanted to sign his contract before Crabtree, the best available free agent wide receiver, gets low-balled (thus killing Bowe's value).

Having two #2 WRs is better than having none. We'll said. Think about it now. We have Hawkins and Taylor to rotate at the slot and now Hartline andu Bowe to rotate at #2,we got some nice freaking depth there people!!! Need to find a solid, young WR capable of being the #1 and we're in business! We got artillery now to keep people fresh and being able to run full speed and ideally, if we can get some first downs and move the ball - we can really make it hard on a defensive secondary and gas em' out so out fourth quarters aren't maybe so tight.... Yes in theory it sounds yummy!

This signing makes me want to believe that they are looking at someone like Devin Smith or Jaelen Strong rather than Parker.

right now it isnt a bad group with Bowe, hartline, Hawkins, Gabriel and Benji. I still go receiver at 12 but i carry six receivers anyway. I always felt you should be running a deep post with one of those receivers on every play. Tire down the corners. Benji, Gabriel and Bowe can stretch a field. hartline and Hawk working the underneath stuff.

Who's going to throw him the ball? The Quarterback. We have one of those....frickin awesome! We actually have three! Lookout world, Super Bowl here we come. Without knowing the money, I like the signing. Adds more depth, a vet, and gives us more flexibility in the draft (we don't NEED a WR in the first round, though we might want to do it). I still think we go DT and DE in the draft (unless we make moves to go up or down in the draft).

Dwayne Bowe agrees to terms with Cleveland Browns as free agent Mary Kay Cabot, Northeast Ohio Media Group Print Email Mary Kay Cabot, Northeast Ohio Media Group By Mary Kay Cabot, Northeast Ohio Media Group Follow on Twitter on March 19, 2015 at 2:04 PM, updated March 19, 2015 at 3:09 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with former Chiefs receiver Dwayne Bowe, a league source confirmed for Northeast Ohio Media Group. The eight-year veteran of the Chiefs, 30, visited the Browns Saturday and Sunday. He's the second receiver who spent his entire career with one team only to be released this offseason that the Browns have signed to upgrade their receiving corps. The first was six-year Dolphins veteran Brian Hartline, who signed with the Browns last week. Bowe (6-2, 221) was released by the Chiefs last Thursday in an attempt to gain some cap relief. His cap number for 2015 was $14 million, and the Chiefs created $5 million in cap space by letting him go. The No. 23 overall pick in 2007 out of Louisiana State, Bowe (6-2, 221) has spent his entire career with the Chiefs, including six years there with Browns general manager Ray Farmer. Over the past two years, Bowe averaged 58 catches for 713 yards under coach Andy Reid. Bowe's best season was in 2010 when he caught 72 passes for 1,162 yards (16.1-yard average) with an NFL-high 15 touchdown catches. He was voted to the Pro Bowl that year and earned second-team All-Pro honors. Bowe became expendable when the Chiefs signed former Eagles star receiver Jeremy Maclin. Last season, he was part of a Chiefs receiving corps that failed to catch a TD pass. The 18 TDs were caught by tight ends and running backs. Bowe, who's registered three 1,000-yard seasons, leaves Kansas City as the Chiefs' second all-time leader in receptions (532) behind tight end Tony Gonzalez. The acquisition of Bowe and Hartline, 28, gives the Browns some much-needed veteran experience, and two former 1,000-yard receivers to help make up for the absence of Pro Bowler Josh Gordon, who's suspended for at least all of 2015 for violating terms of his substance abuse program. But Bowe comes to the Browns with some baggage -- and two drug suspensions -- of his own. In 2014, he was suspended for the opener for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. The ban was a result of Bowe's November 2013 arrest for marijuana possession. The marijuana charge was dismissed in April, and Bowe pleaded guilty to lesser charges of littering and defective equipment. A passenger in his car at the time of the arrest for speeding and possession testified under oath that all of the marijuana was his -- but the NFL still suspended Bowe for a one game. With a base salary of $8.75 million last season, the suspension was extremely costly. Bowe lost $514,706 for sitting out the opener against the Titans. He also lost the full guarantee on his salary, meaning the Chiefs could've cut him at any time. Instead, he started the next 15 games, catching 60 passes for 754 yards. Bowe was also suspended for four games in 2009 for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy. His agent, Todd France, told the Associated Press that Bowe tested positive because of water pills. "Dwayne did not take a steroid or any other performance-enhancing drug," France said in an e-mail. "However he took a diuretic for weight loss, which unfortunately has a negative effect under the league's policy. Dwayne is sincerely disappointed and apologetic that he let down the Chiefs organization, his teammates and the fans. He looks forward to returning and putting this situation behind him." Early on his career, Bowe showed up for camp out shape, and he later clashed with former Chiefs coach Todd Haley. But Farmer likes Bowe and apparently believes he's matured. link

I like the signing. The Chiefs had an abysmal receiving corps last year. Their TE and RB were their top receivers, and then Bowe. After Bowe, they might as well have had air playing the wide receiver position. They were just horrible.
I think that Bowe is a very talented guy. He has had issues, and that's a concern. However, I would suspect that we didn't make a huge investment in him, and if he has issues again, I would guess that we have some protections in the contract.
I think that Bowe and Hartline are really nice additions to the receiving corps, and with Gabriel and Hawkins already here, we have a solid group. I do think that we'll invest in the position in the draft, but maybe not as high as some hope. I think that we'll look at receiver in the 2nd or 3rd. Just like last year, we have eliminated desperation from the position.
I think that we'll either make a move for Mariota in the 1st, or we'll see a couple of big time defensive players drafted. I do expect that we'll look at DL and OLB as our top 2 positions of interest. (if we don't make a move for a QB)
I know we need help at TE, but I don't know of anyone who is really worth the 12th or 19th picks. (at least from what I have read, anyway) I see our needs as DL, OLB, QB, TE, WR, and backup/developmental OL. I wonder if Farmer moves around in this draft like he did in last year's draft?
