Nah, not gonna go there.

This seems like a solid move to add another CB. We are back to even from last year, IMHO.

I will be interested to see what he gets paid in comparison to Perrish Cox. Cox got 3 years, $15 million.

Man....what is wrong with the Browns...lol. Good signing dependent upon the money. Williams is a nice replacement to Skrine so we aren't dependent solely on Gilbert in case he continues to be a dud. I also like the length of these deals as they give a solid contributor a shorter contract to come in for the short term why we can build longer term through player development in the draft.

Hmmm....maybe they do have a plan???

Solid smart signing. Gives us a fallback plan if Gilbert can't step up to the #2 spot.

Awesome, after what I've read and learned, this is a good signing. So now we are Haden #1, Williams #2 and K. Williams at slot. Justin can hopefully get his act together in the meantime. Desir can continue to learn and improve.

Much happy about this with no Cox or the ex NE corner moving to other teams. Welcome to Cleveland!

Oh yes, they do. As we are not part of the "inner circle", we are not privy to what it encompasses. As pieces slowly begin to fall into place, the plan, "The Plan", will become evident...

They're saying 3 yr/21 million? That's more than Skrine got I think. Obviously, with his age, unless he ages like wine, this will be more like a 2 yr deal.

No its a downgrade plus we over paid, plus he is older, plus he stinks, plus he is the only CB that would come here, plus he is too small, too slow and too stupid.
If Heckert had signed him you all would have gone crazy

I like the add but I'm wondering why they wouldn't just pay Skrine that money? Skills wise, both are solid but one has to acknowledge that Skrine is ascending skills wise whereas Williams has peaked/descending.

I take it you disagree, that's ok, I believe he is much better for us than Skrine, we should be able to disagree without arguing

I like this signing...

For what it's worth, the latest Madden update had Buster Skrine rated a 79 and Tramon Williams an 86 thumbsup

Skrine probably got more guarantees. I am guessing this Williams deal is essentially a one year contract.

Williams might be getting up there in age, but he'll still be able to at least compete for the #2 spot and hopefully push Gilbert more. If anything consider it a lateral move from Skrine, hopefully with less penalties.

Welcome to the Browns Tramon...

In his 8 yr career he has 28 Ints and 4.5 sacs.

Tra has only missed one start in the last 5 seasons.

Dependable and productive...what is not to like...

Also, Williams started 11 playoff games with 4 Ints. and recovered 3 fumbles.

That's my hunch as well.........hedging our bets with Gilbert with a solid guy that can easily be cut next year. At least that's what I hope this is, because if guarantees are the same we should have kept Buster....don't see a big difference between the two.

If Gilbert can continue to improve and focus, I really like our secondary, don't forget about K'Waun Williams, he was EXCELLENT in the nickle last year.

Gilbert is the key to the decision to let Skrine walk or not. Unlike some folks, I didn't see real improvement with Gilbert this year and would have kept Buster. The Browns are betting that Gilbert will be a stud and thus Skrine was expendable for what he got on the market.

Time will tell if they are right and Gilbert does developed into a good player.

He's better than Parish Cox and everybody knows it therefore worth more. I like the signing. I like him better than Skine apart from his age. I'm betting it's front loaded. They're still hoping Gilbert surfaces in the next year or two and they can cut an fading vet who's light on the books. That's part of why they didn't want to sink a bunch of money into a decent but not great young role player who was seeking a pay day in Skrine. I actually think it was pretty heads up.

j/c - don't forget, we don't know anything about what really happens...

Skrine - Maybe we offered Skrine more and Skrine wanted out, or felt he'd take less for a team he felt had a better chance to win.

Williams - Maybe we felt we had no choice but to overpay a little, we lost out on Skrine and Cox, and Cameron...pay a little extra (we have it) to get the next guy we want. Especially with NO wanting to sign him, and word that the Ravens were interested.

My point is that we don't know the whole story - be glad we have a couple players we've signed, we're better off than we were last week.

From what the media reported (yep I know), the Browns never gave Skrine a legitimate offer because they wanted to give Gilbert the chance to be the guy. Thus they didn't want to commit that type of contract to a player they felt wasn't their long term solution. Williams gives them short term insurance if Gilbert continues to be a waste, but long term letting a good CB in his prime walk is a big time screw up if Gilbert doesn't pan out.

Gilbert is reported to have the skills to be a top CB. My understanding (and I'm certain I will be corrected if I'm wrong) is that next to a QB, a CB is the secondmost "demanding" position requiring up to 3 years to develop fully. Williams can give us those 2 more years necessary...

Unless I'm reading that wrong, that's the reason they let Skrine walk. There's no reason to keep him if they don't think he's in their long term plans. They also would have a pretty good idea on how they think Gilbert will turn out, I'm guessing they feel pretty good about it.

thanks BWS, didn't know that.

And, I agree with bbrowns32 that Gilbert has the skills, but will he show them consistently is the question.

Actually the assumption is that the FO and Browns under Haslam are so toxic, Skrine ran from the building. The assumption is that we could have offered Skrine a Revis sized contract and Skrine would have said "Hell No" and still ran
