The Cleveland Browns are badly in need of a dynamic, play-making wide receiver, so it comes as no surprise General Manager Ray Farmer had dinner with Central Florida’s Breshad Perriman Sunday night.
Farmer, along with other Browns officials dined with Perriman, who ran an impressive 4.26 on his pro day, a league source confirmed with Northeast Ohio Media Group.
Browns draft preview
With less than a week until the NFL Draft, the Browns’ interest in the Central Florida wide receiver appears to be growing.
Many believe Perriman is the fourth best wideout in the draft, behind Alabama’s Amari Cooper, West Virginia’s Kevin White and Louisville’s DeVante Parker.
Perriman, who stands at 6’2″ and weighs 214, has good size and is among the fastest prospects in the draft.

For the Browns to spend that kind of time and money so close to the draft is a clear sign that they’re seriously considering Perriman in the first round, where they own the No. 12 and No. 19 picks.
Gaining steam from some experts, including NFL Network’s Mike Mayock as the fourth-best receiver in the draft behind Alabama’s Amari Cooper, West Virginia’s Kevin White and Louisville’s DeVante Parker, Perriman could be available to the Browns at No. 19, where he’d be a good value.
“He ran faster than I expected and I think most of the league expected,” Mayock said on air after Perriman’s pro day. “When you run 4.25, that’s significant. I think what it does is it places it in the conversation with those top three guys.”
Perriman has reportedly met with 18 teams over the past couple of weeks. The Browns have met with Cooper and Parker for pre-draft visits, and reportedly met with White the night before his pro day.
The Browns could be worried about overreaching for a wideout at number 12, with Cooper and White being off the board. At 19, though a player like Parker or Breshad Perriman would be a nice pick.
Last year Farmer received a lot of backlash from fans and media for neglecting to select a wide receiver, in a draft full of them, to replace a suspended Josh Gordon. This year, Farmer will likely not make the same mistake, though many are worried he could over-reach on a pass catcher.

“If there’s a receiver that provides the best value and the best player, then we’ll probably take that guy,” Farmer said at his pre-draft press conference last week. “If there’s not and there’s a guy that we think who can influence our team or help our team in a different way, in a better way, we’ll take that guy. Somehow I’m ‘anti-wide receiver.’ That’s not the case at all. I do think that we have guys who can contribute and can play. To that effect, I think our guys played pretty well last year, and I think they’ll do the same this year and probably do a little bit better.”
