Dave thanks for educating me.
I don't know I have that intuition thing on Johnson maybe the best bang for our buck...and does he do returns? enough of WRs lets get some RBs doing our returns (punt returns).

Not to be a minimalist but, it all starts up front . You either set up the pass by a good running game or set up the run by a good passing game. When the oline breaks down neither will work. Case in point...Mack broke down .....the QB and offense suffered big time.

P/Spiral...sort of what you said but the part about setting up the pass. We did that well the other teams chose to do that themselves.
ALL game planned to stop the run and say to us QB we don't believe you are good enough to CARRY THE TEAM. So it didn't matter if we made 4 yards per carry or two. The setting up the pass was done. Again not by us dictating to them but them dictating to us. Why almost every play action pass was a good opportunity for us.
What you stated is for teams who have a Balanced attack that Defenses would respect but ours was not the case they all out crammed our running game. When Mack went down and we have the Stretch run and the OUTSIDE ZONE BLOCKING SCHEME...they fed on the chink in our armor and like sharks in the water - playing the run already would seize the opportunity and attacked the Centers lack of any power and lateral movement and would be able to slip in those gaps all too often. But the fact was they were in position to stop the run and first step was anticipating the run till they made it an automatic passing down.
