Titans linebacker Kamerion Wimbley retires after 9 seasons NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Titans linebacker Kamerion Wimbley wants to spend more time with his family and has decided to retire from the NFL after nine seasons. Related Stories ''While I still feel like I could be competitive on the field, at this point in my life, my family is my priority,'' Wimbley wrote Thursday in a post on Twitter. ''Although my wife and two young daughters have always been incredibly supportive of my career, I am looking forward to spending more meaningful time with them and never missing another big moment in their lives!'' The 6-foot-4, 258-pound Wimbley was a first-round draft pick by Cleveland in 2006 at No. 13 overall and played four seasons with the Browns before being traded to Oakland in 2010. The Titans signed Wimbley in March 2012 to a five-year contract after the Raiders released him. Wimbley was due $1.85 million in base salary this season and $2.35 million in 2016. Wimbley has 53 1/2 sacks in his career, yet only 11 the past three seasons in Tennessee. He started 123 of his 140 games with 533 tackles and 32 tackles for loss with two interceptions, nine forced fumbles and three recovered fumbles. He started 12 games at outside linebacker last season, but also was inactive for three games. The Titans signed Brian Orakpo in free agency and drafted Deiontrez Mount of Louisville in the sixth round. who would you rather have ... Wimbley or Mingo?
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

He was a decent player not his fault we drafted him too high. Wish him the best.

Good for him. There were a lot of people. myself included, who would have bet against him playing for 9 years in the NFL after he left here. It looked like the league had figured him out. However, he managed to play another 5 years after he left the Browns, and was useful.

This team always seems to amaze...in a bad way, but I still can't believe that Savage not only traded the pick to the freakin Ravens. Which you never trade anything to a division rival! ... but Ngata just seemed to fall right in our lap and picking him seemed to make too damn much sense at the time. Now I realize Wimbley wasn't by far our worst pick ever, but geez come on!

Wimbley wasn't great, but he wasn't bad either. Still wish we had taken Haloti Ngata in 2006, but oh well.
Good luck to him in the future!

At the time I remember most of us Browns board peeps wanted Ngata, and of course, he was right there for the taking, just like numerous others we let pass by.

Wimbley had one (or two?) good seasons with us. So-so after that. Spin move.

Kam has always been a class act. It's nice to see him walk away from the game with his health, money in the bank, other business adventures already started, and with time to spend with his family. Good luck buddy and congrats.

Besides that one good season, where he did his rush under the tackle move, he was simply adequate. He got better against the run and his athleticism helped him improve himself against the pass. Mingo played hurt last year. I think he'll be more productive this year. But I doubt he'll ever be a probowler or anything. But I'd say they'll end up about even.

After Kam left Cleveland he actually turned into a better all-around player ... nothing spectacular, but solid for a few years

best thing that could have happened to him was to get out... many fans thought poorly of him because of the fact we traded up for him and let Ngata slip by, plus we did not use him to his strengths IMO.. not all his fault but we fans tend to judge in a vacuum.
He was sort of a one trick pony, but when utilized better than we did, as you noted, he turned himself into a better player... Good luck CW

Good for him. Retiring while still healthy and if he was careful, plenty of money in the bank.

j/c... average career...was in the era whera a top 10 pick had great first contracts. Made a bundle in his 2nd contract as a FA Edge Rusher. A good guy and good things happened to him...He is set for life and is getting out at a time where his age might make him more vulnerable to injury - All the best to him!

a couple good seasons in cleveland and a couple after he left. 4 good seasons and a couple more decent ones. 6 years as a viable starter make him one of Cleveland's 10 best draft picks....just saying.
Definitely wish him the best.

When I think of Wimbley, the first thought that always comes into my head is "could have been Ngata."

He was the brains in Baltimore and he was the smartest GM in the NFL and if you dared utter one question about him, you were a crybaby, whiner, hater, woe-is-meir. The words Savage and Genius were synonymous. Funny how perceptions change over time. Yet, the very same people who crucified anyone who even questioned one of Savage's decisions are the very same people who belittle anyone who questions any of Farmer's moves. And some say history doesn't repeat itself.

I don't remember the spin move as much as the one where he lowered his lead arm real low and then used it as leverage while raising it to seal the OT too far inside as he bee-lined to the qb.

Like Mingo (imo), Wimbley had the speed but not the strength/leverage to get past an LT to the QB - too light in the butt. Most of the time the LT just rode him out of the play. Face it, we've had crappy luck drafting edge rushers, whether DE or OLB. Even Courtney Brown, who should have been All-World if he'd stayed healthy, ended up a footnote.

Ah yes..the "Rubberband Man" move. I still remember Savage's presser when he talked about Wimbley's workouts.
