Am I the only one that every time I think of Kyle Shanahan my mind immediately relates him to Charlie Weis and his decided schematic advantage?

I see a lot of parallels between the two. In New England, Belichick kept Weis on point and kept his sort of messiah complex in check. At Notre Dame and Kansas, Weis didn't have that oversight and didn't have the same success.

With us, Shanahan didn't have that oversight. Pettine pretty much left him alone to do his thing. It looks like Pet is trying to take more of that BB role this year, where Offense, Defense, or Special Teams the buck ultimately stops with him. It never felt like they had the mutual respect to really trust each other, but they never really spent/had time together to develop that relationship.

Hopefully this year, Pet can further grow into the HC that a lot of us think he can be and keep the whole team in sync.

Hopefully, Flip can be our Josh McDaniels.

That seems awfully low.

Not sure if Pettine getting more involved in offense is good or bad thing. He's the HC, he should be involved at some level.

It is a fact. We scored more points in 2013 and 2012 than we scored last year. (though I have not broken down offensive and defensive scores) Our defense, on the other hand, improved in scoring allowed, and also got 7 more turnovers last year than in 2013.

I think that Pettine being more involved on offense is fine. He should be able to offer a defensive opinion on plays, why they may, or may not work. I think that it can be a positive.

I never looked at the stats from 2013 (Norv Turner vs Shanny) Interesting thought though.

I personally liked Turners Offense better and I liked Turners ability to adjust better. I however was shocked to see how well Shanny did at times and he did have a scheme that got WR's more open then I ever recall. I liked Turner better though because his passing game was much more rhythmic and he got the ball out of the QB's hands quicker Shanny's scheme took longer and had no rhythm to it.

But it would be interesting to look at stats I guess???
