I think we used to have a thread for this, but I can't find it. Hence a new one!

I just finished Junot Diaz's "This Is How You Lose Her". An interesting collection of short stories dealing about love, infidelity and being Hispanic.

Now I'm just starting on Joan Didion's "Slouching Towards Bethlehem"

Not reading it now - read it a few years ago.

I would encourage ANYONE to read it. Good book - and it gives insight into what STILL happens in Africa.

Slavery: True Story.

I just finished Leading Change by John P Kotter - it is one I've wanted to read for work for a while. I now want to buy it for my entire leadership team (above me) and force them to read it and make changes smile

Also, I only have a few pages left of Empire of Mud (the secret history of Washington, DC) by JD Dickey. This is pretty good - I didn't know most of what is in the book. For you history fans, it's a cool read - but I'll admit, I know JD as well.

The next book, to be started any day is another work book - The Real Business of IT (how CIOs create and communicate value) by Richard Hunter and George Westerman. I suspect this will be another one I'll want to buy it for my entire leadership team (above me) and force them to read it and make changes...

I have never read the Bible cover to cover, but I am currently into Job as I journey through it now. (and I try to also read from the New Testament a couple of days per week also)

Half way through the "Lean Startup" Haven't touched it in months been busy actually working on my startup, I need to finish it though.

It is pretty interesting, the idea is use the scientific method on aspects of your business.. For example if you have an idea, test it, learn from it and pivot based on the results, this will help you create a product that your customers will want rather then creating a product that you "think" your customers want.

The Three by Sarah Lotz

Very interesting read for only being a $6.00 book at Meijier. (spelling?)

On the same day in January 4 different planes crash around the world. Of the four crashes, only three children survived. They then become media darlings tagged as "The Three". As time goes by their behavior gets very odd and mysterious. Religious factions are calling them the bringers of the Apocalypse. As the book progresses, strange things start happening with these kids that just might make it true.

Not bad thus far....

Expand your horizons, you're missing out on a lot.

Currently, I am finishing the last book in Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' series. HIGHLY recommended.

I'm a big King fan. Read'em all. I think it's a toss up between The Green Mile and The Stand. His new one is good to. The Dark tower starts off nice, but after about 5 books gets a little boring.

Speaking of Stephen King.

I heard they're making a movie for "Cell".

Not sure if it's a made for TV movie, or a national release in theaters.

Either way, the book was GREAT, so I'm curious to see what happens with the movie.

If it don't have pictures I don't read it and I prefer the ones that come in brown wrappers. J/K

Seriously though, I am not currently reading anything but when I do it is usually a Louis L'Amour or Zane Grey Western.

This board.

it has drama (lots of drama), suspense, sorrow, joyfulness, and if things keep going, we might even get a murder mystery. wink

I've been reading short murder mystery novels by Eliot Roosevelt.

They're murders that are solved by Eleanor Roosevelt.

Weird stuff.

I agree that it probably peaked with 'Wolves of the Calla', but I've got about 200-ish pages left in book 7 and I'm still digging it a lot.

Don't get me wrong, it's getting slightly weird and is feeling like he is rushing to wrap it up a bit, but I still like it.

Looking forward to reading all of the peripheral books that this one touches after this (The Stand, Salem's Lot, etc..). Will probably re-read 'It' as well.

I had him on my "banned list" after he was hit by a van and sued the driver when he seemed to go all goofy. But after yrs. of looking for a good replacement I sadly have come back. Just no one that I have found that can write like he can.

Finished Didion's anthology. I really enjoyed it. The title piece was really well written. The book is just filled with great pieces about California. Really would recommend it. I don't really care for "New Journalism", but her writing style is just eloquent.I find many of her pieces to be quiet, but assertive.

Not sure what I want to read next, but it'll probably be something light. I think some Neruda will hold me over for a bit.

Desperation was a book that I got yrs. ago and gave it to the people next door because I thought it was such a tragic story I could not finish it. Yrs. later I did read it all and thought that was a really good book. I felt kinda bad that I HAD high morals but now must have slipped because now the story didn't bother me like it did before grin

Every night before falling sleep I read a few pages of one of my Uncle John's Bathroom Reader (currently #25 from 2012 ~ 600 pages).

A new Uncle John's Bathroom Reader comes out every year. I think they're up to #27 now.

The books contain trivia and short articles on a variety of topics ranging from one to three or four pages long.

Ostensibly for reading in the bathroom, (which I don't like to do); I found them perfect for reading just before nodding off.

Very entertaining, interesting, light reading. I highly recommend them. And they make great gifts.

Oh yea, I dug it! With everything else going on in that book, you had those stinkin' large, speeding trucks flying down the road with the kids playing in the front yard!

You can't hold that against him because he used to be a Conservative until that van hit him and ripped out half his brain. It sadly left him Liberal like the rest. brownie

A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. It's for a short story and novel class that I need to wrap up my associates degree in general studies after six years of schooling on and off. I'm excited about the book because it's about his experience hiking the entirety of the Appalachian trail after spending two decades studying and writing in England. The first chapter about just getting the supplies has me sucked in. I can smell the trees already.
