Nothing has really changed. Just because EVERYONE has cameras and there's 24/7 news networks everywhere you look, you just hear a lot more of what goes on.
There has never been that "grassy field". Native Americans were robbed of their names, native tongues and traditions in those "grassy fields" you speak of. You are so wrong. There was a time, not long ago, when practicing Christians rarely turned out to vote. There was a time when the Secret Service was the most highly respected agency in the United States. There was a time when the ATF did not sell assault rifles to Mexican drug lords leading to the deaths of THOUSANDS of innocent Mexicans. There was a time when the IRS was not used as a weapon. My list of these things could go on for two pages! STAND!

I am a fledgling Christian.. believing in Jesus being GOD incarnate and truly died for the sins of man. Well said, now tell us, with all that is going on with the flooding in Texas, are you high and dry? And Tulsa! You ok? Yes, we're fine here 40, thanks for asking. I never really thought of Oklahoma as marsh land but we're getting there.

My list of these things could go on for two pages! STAND! There was a time that stealing, cheating and killing was a basic survival instinct. There was a time when when Mexican tribes killed each other with spears made of sharpened wood and stone. There was a time, when men bashed each other with rocks to take what the other had. There was a time, when going out for dinner was a life risking event every time, and not returning home before dark meant you were probably the dinner, for the dinner you were hunting. But with time, things change, they evolve, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, but they are constantly evolving.

Are you so sure about many of the things you mentioned earlier?
Was the Secret Service a respected organization when they helped former presidents in hiding extra marital affairs? Is that the organization you are speaking of?
My family is from the south. For as long as I've known Christians there have voted. As a matter of fact, many so called Christians helped try to insure they were the only ones who voted as best they could.
Like I said, many of the things we see in the news now, we wouldn't have seen 20 or 30 years ago. That doesn't mean it didn't happen.

So you and Pit are busy trying to justify these things as no biggie? All is well?
One compares all this to Man fighting Mammoths for a meal while the other blames it on cell phone cameras?
Well, we are all entitled to our own opinion, even when yours are wrong.

You have CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC,ABC,Fox News and several other news outlets filling some networks 24/7. This is something that we didn't have 30 years ago.
You have camera phones with millions taking pictures of things like never before. When you combine all of that, you get saturated unlike never before with things we've never seen in the news or even considered news.
Now does that make it any less of a big deal? No it doesn't. But the point is, 30 years ago we would never have heard many of these stories. It's not like they never existed. Now if you can't wrap your head around that, I can't help you.

So you and Pit are busy trying to justify these things as no biggie? All is well? Not at all, just pointing out that the "At one time" arguments can go on forever to whichever way you wish, because things that once were are no longer, and things that once were not, are. Well, we are all entitled to our own opinion, even when yours are wrong.
Think awful highly of yourself and your opinions? Nothing to see here, move along now.
I will, thank you.

j/c Mohammed cartoon contest: Hundreds expected outside Phoenix mosque Phoenix (CNN)—Jon Ritzheimer is a former Marine, and he has no middle ground when it comes to Islam. His T-shirt pretty much says it all: "F--- Islam." Ritzheimer is the organizer of Friday's "Freedom of Speech Rally" outside the Islamic Community Center in Phoenix. It's the mosque that Elton Simpson and Nadir Soofi attended for a time. They're the men who drove from Arizona to a Dallas suburb to shoot up a Prophet Mohammed cartoon contest there. Both were killed by police early this month. Many Muslims consider demeaning depictions of Mohammed to be blasphemous and banned by Islamic law. The rally "This is in response to the recent attack in Texas where 2 armed terrorist(s), with ties to ISIS, attempted Jihad," the event's Facebook page said. Some 600 people say they're attending. It's scheduled to start at 6:15 p.m., about the time evening prayers are taking place inside the center. The rally also features its own cartoon contest, similar to the one targeted in Texas. "I think the whole thing, the cartoon contest especially, I think it's stupid and ridiculous," Ritzheimer said, "but it's what needs to take place in order to expose the true colors of Islam." D.C. Metro ending issue-oriented ads after Mohammed submission Phoenix police Chief Joe Yahner is personally involved in arranging public safety around the event, he told CNN affiliate KPHO. "There's a lot of things in the works. The intelligence related to the crowd is changing all the time," he said. Gov. Doug Ducey hopes common sense will prevail in the event, he said. "Of course I'm a believer in free speech and the First Amendment. I'm also a believer in good judgment and common sense," he told the affiliate. Police will use cameras to record the event "to capture things that go on" and will close roads, said Sgt. Trent Crump, a Phoenix police spokesman. So far, the event seems to be attracting a variety of people, he said. "It is a very scattered group of individuals with different causes that for the most part are signing on and signing up to come to this," Crump added. Cartoon ads The rally comes as some groups have made a deliberate effort not to be cowed by Islamic extremists, like the ones who attacked the Paris offices of the the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. The publication often featured caricatures of Mohammed. In Washington, activist and conservative blogger Pamela Geller of New York wanted to place ads showing cartoons of Mohammed in the capital's transit system. She hoped to show the winning cartoon from her group's contest in Texas; the one where Simpson and Soofi were killed by police. The Washington Metro board balked. It voted to stop showing issue-oriented ads throughout its system. A worried community Events like this one and other developments have Muslims in the area scared, said Imraan Siddiqi with the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "Recently the mosques here in Phoenix actually received threatening letters -- very specific threats, saying that we are going to massacre your congregations," he said. Ritzheimer anticipates possible problems because of the rally and says people should bring their guns. "People are also encouraged to utilize (their) second amendment right at this event just (in case) our first amendment comes under the much anticipated attack," the event's Facebook page says. Bikers will be there too, according to the post. Siddiqi calls it the "intersection of Islamophobia and (the) gun culture." "When we see these two things ... then obviously it becomes more of a concern," he said. "We're advising people ... it's better to stay clear from the event, don't engage with these people." CNN's Daniel Burke and Michael Martinez contributed to this report. http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/29/us/mohamme...t431aVODtopLink

Perhaps after the gathering, everyone can head to the Zoo to poke a stick at the lion or stick their heads in the Crocodile's mouth.

They can draw whatever they want.
thats the beauty of this country.
What i don't get is why you would purposely piss people off, just for the sake of pissing somebody off.
Part of being a great country is everybody else believing we are a great country.
screw the middle east, but all the other nations-specifically from allied countries- are looking at us like our population is a bunch of idiots.
it seems like our country finds new ways to piss off people, just because.

it seems like our country finds new ways to piss off people, just because. Why does the middle east care what we draw? Shoot, we've had the national "arts" whatever it's called support "piss Jesus" Wait - maybe it doesn't tick off the middle east - maybe it ticks off a small percentage of them, right? So, why does the middle east try to kill Americans? It does tick us off. Wait, only a small percentage of the middle east likes to kill. Why don't THEY change? Oh, cause it's only a small percentage of them. So, why do WE need to change our small percentage to suit THEM? And face it swish, aside from nuking ourselves - that small percentage from the middle east will never be happy.

And thats the middle east in a nutshell for you. I just said it was stupid, i never said change. but i have to question peoples parenting skills. my mother always said "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all". I don't LIKE Islam, bro. i dunno if you've failed to understand that yet. i don't like any religion in general. but you don't see me visiting my family in Turkey walking down the street eating a bacon cheeseburger. just like my family doesn't come to Ohio and the women wear Hijabs. Some of my backwards ass family does that in Turkey, but everytime they visit, they take it off, cause they don't want to scare anybody. somebody has said this on the board before: Just because it's legal, doesn't make it right to do.

it seems like our country finds new ways to piss off people, just because. Free speech in this country, it is my belief, was always intended to be about respect. It was never intended to be a mechanism to be vulgar or intentionally offensive, it was about being able to voice your opinion without fear. If you wouldn't otherwise go draw cartoons of the prophet for any other reason, then arming yourself and going to do it in front of a mosque out of spite is absolutely NOT what the first amendment was designed for. And it is acts like this that will continue to give the government grounds to further limit our free speech rights. I read an article a couple days ago about the woman who had her picture taken flipping off the tomb of the unknown soldier a year or so ago. It went viral, she lost her job, received countless threats of death and rape, was forced to live in fear, couldn't leave her house, couldn't find a job. There were a ton of comments at the bottom of the page which read, as you would expect, basically saying, "Good, that's what she deserves." Nobody, NOBODY should have to live in fear of being physically hurt or raped because they hold an unpopular political opinion. That is the kind of tyranny we rise up against all over the world...

I agree with that.
We shouldn't be living in fear of muslims.
actually, the reality is we don't, its self fabricated. but anyway, yea if they want to draw a cartoon of the dude, then whatever. they shouldn't have to be scared they are gonna get bombed or something.
but at the end of the day, what are they really accomplishing?

And if I lived in or visited an Islamic country, I wouldn't go taunting or spouting off my Christian views/opinions. If, while in that country, there was a "Christianity sucks" party, I wouldn't attend, OR threaten to kill people. I'd say "oh well".
My question is, why is it, in this country where all are free to practice their religion - why is drawing muhammed a cause for killing?
Why? Because of the extremely low percentage of muslims that want to make it so. Why should we live in fear of them - here, in the U.S. - where Muslims are free to worship as they see fit?
See - we AREN'T "there" where you can be murdered for being a Christian - we are HERE, where religious tolerance possibly exceeds most other countries. (I said possibly - I don't know)
The radicals of islam don't like anything but THEIR way. Just like the W.B. church doesn't like anything but their way.

i really don't know what you're trying to argue here.
Here in america we are allowed to do whatever we want.
I'm simply saying that even here in the US, i don't go around offending people just for the sake of doing it, or because "i can".
That's all i'm saying.
I mean look at it this way. you have the right to drive to my job and cuss me out, call me all kind of names and walk out.
well, why haven't you done it yet?

I don't believe they're accomplishing anything other than making themselves look like idiots. Yes they have every right to do so, but it only feeds into the rhetoric that "Islam = Bad". Somehow people can't differentiate between extremists and Muslims.
It only helps further division in an already complex issue.

My question is, why is it, in this country where all are free to practice their religion - why is drawing muhammed a cause for killing? That is how some of them interpret their religion.... I'm sure that Muslims don't appreciate Americans having a prophet cartoon drawing contest any more than I appreciate a painting of the Virgin Mary being smeared in elephant dung being hung up as art... but 99.9999% of them aren't going to kill anybody over it.
