How much time do the Browns give Johnny to prove that he is our franchise QB?
JH has a leash through 2015. Then Johnny's daddy and the shared legal team with JH cannot save Johnny anymore. If he can't find a way to legitimate beat out Josh at some point this year, factoring the upsetting failures he produced last year - you just move on. We can't spend every year hoping he can pull his head outta his a$s and be a NFL qb. Jmo, but it's do or die season for JF. And if he sinks again, I'm not sure there will be many teams in line wanting to acquire his services. He has way more on the line than maybe he even knows.

Manziel could not ask for a better second opportunity to prove himself.
The Browns front office has JM setup for a comeback, first, outbidding the Bills to make sure the Browns could sign the worst starting QB in the NFL last season...then naming McCown to be the Browns starting QB with no competition for the job.
Not many NFL franchises would reward the worst starting QB in the NFL, like the Browns did, outbidding for McCown then naming him the starter.
McCown starting will give the coaching staff more time to work with Manziel, preparing him to step into the starting job when the coaching staff feels Manziel is ready.
If McCown does poorly, it will not surprise many and the media and fans will be calling for Manziel to take over to save our season. McCown will not make any waves and will step aside without any complaints.
Then it will be sink or swim time for Manziel as he gets his second opportunity to prove himself.
What about winning football games? I'm not sure that is the highest priority for this franchise in 2015.

The "do or die" option with JM will be hard to swallow. Last season was that awful. Hope he produces when his time comes, either injury or winning the position.
Just win.

I don't think it was his running ability as much as it was his ability to escape to be blunt every QB not named JFF looked better at escaping. LOL Funny but not true. Hoyer looked just as bad. Even got himself hurt doing it. Maybe it had something to do with the Oline.....Nah they walk on water around here.

I disagree, West saved Hoyers life on one play. Free edge rusher not even touched and West leveled him seconds away from impact. Same play that Gabriel scored a TD on I believe.

It was a beautiful block. Took that edge rusher's cleats right out from under him.

Sorry the synopsis of Mac is incredulous. Yep we purposely signed the worst option for us.
Some other butes out there.
In this short lived career why would Any coach do that...Pray tell me why. Especially with the Browns cause obviously we don't EVER FIRE ANYONE with a bad season...lol

If that should happen, I don't believe Farmer should be judging the QB talent in the 2016 draft.

He did that well...he moved laterally set up his feet and took the 3-5 seconds they gave him and made a good 25 yard throw to a Wide Open WR...you know the WRs that we got that cannot get open...lol
That pass and the long TD pass to Cameron probably his two best passes of the season. How many Veteran QBs would have missed that pass? You think McCown would have missed it? Hoyer was not a total loss never my claim. For the most part he was not what you would call an accurate passer.
Nothing 100% about that. I thought his Bengal game was amazing. Its the complete vanishing act after that game.
lol...where is that stick...got to tenderize this Dead horse some more...

I think he was being sarcastic. Because if he wasn't, he has no clue. 35-38 yards in the air, perfect, in stride strike. (yes, to a wide open receiver no doubt). I firmly believe he was being sarcastic.

Yeah, total decapitation to Hoyer hadn't West intervened. At that point, I think he had built as much speed as possibly and Hoyer was just about to turn into death. Love that play. Easily one of my top three plays of all for last season.

Ranking backup QBs from No. 1 to 32 31. Johnny Manziel, Browns 32. Blaine Gabbert, 49ers Manziel was a disappointment on and off the field as a rookie. He deserves credit for handling his issues and showing better preparation heading into Year 2. The bigger concern was seeing defensive linemen chase him down with ease. While Russell Wilson and Drew Brees play big, Manziel looked small and out of place on the field. That said, I'm not ready to give up on Johnny after seven quarters. ... I don't have a problem with Gabbert taking the final spot because we know what he is after 27 NFL starts: A low-ceiling backup who needs to prove us wrong on the field http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000501986/article/ranking-backup-qbs-from-no-1-to-32

Fair enough ranking, I don't believe he deserves any credit. He'll need to earn that and there's one way for him to do that, get on the field and play good solid football.
And yeah, wasn't it the Bengals defensive end that hunted him down with ease?

Just for the record that was a 35 yard throw not 25. 4 seconds from the snap to out of his hand. Funny. Looked longer didn't it?

Here we are with Josh McCown and Johnny Manziel.
Jeez, just think the Colts go from Peyton Manning to Andrew Luck. The Packers go from Brett Farve to Aaron Rodgers.
Oh the horror.
When I think of all the "wish we woulda's".
So once again a season is not far from starting and the Browns are not ready for prime time playing.
It is not that the "team" is all that bad. It is all about how bad the Browns are at quarterback.
If you asked any knowledgeable football person to rank NFL quarterbacks McCown and Manziel are very close together at the bottom of the list.
This failure begins and ends with management.
The Brown's depth chart at quarterback is like a bad joke.
I like Mike Pettine. I believe he could win with an average quarterback. But that is not the case.
The quarterback position will once again be the boat anchor for the Cleveland Browns.
It is real hard to get anywhere dragging an anchor.

bonefish, true, but don't say we haven't TRIED to get a decent QB...how many first rnd draft choices have been wasted...because none of them have panned out...Quinn, Weeden, and Manziel..all first...and McCoy at 3rd...we've SUNK lots of dollars and time into the adventure...hope we found a serveable one....funny/ or sad Anderson considered in top ten...should we have kept him in hindsight....remember him trying to throw a crossing pattern...or..showing touch....God help him...eventually, surely, we shall find a QB...Go Browns!!!

Well actually, that's not entirely accurate. The Colts didn't go from Manning to Luck. They went from Manning to chump, lost a bunch, ended up with the 1st overall pick and snatched up Luck. The Packers sat on Rogers for 4 years before he became the man in GB. But I think the point you are trying to make is valid, we've not found our "Luck or Rogers". Unless of course Manziel somehow wakes up, we're going to have to go looking again.

Oh meant to click on Bonefish...As for FO what other options did they have...possibly 2014 taking Carr or Bridgewater if that is what you meant.
The rest or a collection of Have nots - hopefully we have the best one. I just think it was funny - most of the ESPN guys (national media) was touting McCown as the best FA QB as soon as he got released. Then we sign him and all of a sudden he became unsatisfactory to them...lol

EO. Not just talking about 2014.
Please let's not get into options. The Browns have had so many options since 1999 it is not worth the discussion.
The failure falls at the doorstep of all the regimes since coming back in 1999.
It is classic case of mismanagement on a grand scale.
Calling McCown the best FA quarterback is like going to the zoo and asking the zoo keeper which turds from the pens make the best soup.
Please don't tell me you are going to defend every regime since 1999 and the choices they made on the position of quarterback?

Heaven forbid, should Farmer and Haslam invest any research into the QBs available in the 2014 draft...oh wait, I seem to recall the Browns investing time and dollars doing exactly "that", researching the 2014 draft class.
...I heard the Browns research indicated Bridgewater was the best draft pick if the Browns were looking to draft a QB with their second first round pick of the 2014 draft..and Haslam and Farmer ignored the research and picked the guy they liked...go figure.
Turns out, the research the Browns paid for was right on the money, showing Bridgewater would be the best choice.
Some fans might look at the Browns choice in 2014..a mistake..or a screwup by Haslam and/or Farmer.
As for the ESPN guys rating free agent QBs...read it yourself

mac,...you were in the draft room and you know for a fact Bridgewater was rated higher than Manziel...you got any other info...pictures of Browns draft board, lots of us would like to see it....opinions...Johnny stunk...that's in past...he was better in college than Bridgewater and as I recall Bwater stunk it up at his workout...might have slipped down lots of NFL teams boards...he was so good every team gave him a no go until Vikes...hands might have been to small...20/20 after the fact is always easy...since Manziel is on our team hope he gets his stuff together and produces....GO Browns!!!!
