Question: If this guy went to work and passed out Bibles to people who requested them (what has been reported happened in other articles in the thread), should he be fired?
Just so we're clear, that's not what happened in this particular instance. The man was passing out a book he has written and self-published. But as to your question, yes, in a heartbeat. Again, it's inconsiderate and unprofessional and should be left out of the workplace. If I found that someone were passing out religious or political materials at work, I would terminate them. If I found that someone were distributing self-published books about their coming out, or trying to convert co-workers to homosexuality, I would terminate them. There would be specific language in the employee manual prohibiting it. Politics, sex and religion do not belong in the workplace.
