i still don't understand why we're the only country that has this kind of circus in our politics.
England has a whopping 6 weeks for candidates to state their views, debate, and get elected.
we got freaking 2+ years. this is stupid. I don't really see the point. I'd rather have an arbitrarily long vetting process than an arbitrarily short one. i rather have neither. how bout something in the middle? like only during the election year?

I wonder what a burger would cost with a $15 an hour minimum wage? Pretty sure with the report they put out it will cost just 30 cents more. But it's probably more like 0 dollars as studies have shown an increase in minimum wage does not have a direct correlation between inflation. I'd like to see that/those studies. Further, minimum wage was never meant to support a family. Add in that few people stay at minimum wage for very long IF they show up for work and do a decent job. An increase is fine, but to double it? Any business would see huge wage increases because it's not just the min. wage employees that would get a raise - it's also the employees that were making $10 an hour, $12 an hour, or $14.50 an hour. And the person that was making $15 an hour, had been at the job for 5 years or more - I doubt they'd be happy making the same as the person that started yesterday. So, how would doubling min. wage NOT affect prices - more than $0.30 per burger? How would doubling minimum wage NOT affect the price of the widget that the widget factory makes?

we got freaking 2+ years. this is stupid. Because in European style politics, you don't get to pick your candidates. The parties just present them to you and you're stuck with what they give you. This is why GOP turnout has been as bad the last couple elections. With McCain no one felt like they had a choice. Same with Romney, because the nomination was handed to them. I think some of the problem is that our Primary system is worthless. Most nominations are wrapped up by "Super Tuesday" making the majority of the other state primaries worthless. IMO there should be 4 "Super Tuesdays"... all 50 states (and territories??) hold their primaries on 1 of those 4 days. I think it will make them more relevant.

Same with Romney, because the nomination was handed to them. This goes back to what you and I discussed yesterday in regards to Trump. The nomination was handed to Romney for a reason. He was trailed by Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. Of course he was going to get the nod. You can't pour sludge in the stew and expect it not to turn out bad.

John Kasich: Ohio Governor Announces Bid for 2016 Republican Presidential Nomination
WOW the GOP is wide open... All these great candidates and TRUMP leading the field... Pinheads.
Sanders and $15 minimum wage: plus all the other crazy ideas he has that will help bring back the middle class is exactly what we need.
You guys can't see the forest for all the trees and it's on fire. The GOP has no chance of winning the Presidency... NONE! LOL and I find great solace in that fact.

I really like Kasich, and hope that he wins the nomination. I also think that he can beat the Democrat field.

You good ole boys down south better get behind a sane and viable candidate or you'll be looking from the outside in, once again. Please let us know when there is one single sane and viable candidate in either party. Till then both sides suck They aren't all insane baboons like Trump is. You have more than a dozen to choose from on the right. There has to be one sane one. Or is there? IMO Chris Christie is the only chance for the GOP. He's the only viable Republican candidate that can actually cross party lines and can actually draw votes in from the left. Until a GOP candidate shows they will cross party lines to get things done, the good ole poys will always be looking from the outside in.

Haven't the last post-election polling results shown that the GOP lost because of (Evangelicals mostly?) not turning out to vote to the number of a few million people? Even many liberals will admit that the country overall is 'center-right' in its leanings. I think there's a difference in low voter turnout for party due to lack of an accepted candidate vs. a majority opinion.

Except things like $15 minimum wage won't actually bring back the Middle Class. When you over inflate the value of unskilled labor, you devalue actual skilled workers. Its like this idea that if you print more money that everyone can get rich. All it does is devalue your savings.

Any candidate in a general election has to pull votes they aren't counting on. That's why they all tout their moderation once they clear their primaries.

Because they don't have to.
Bill maher said this perfectly in an interview: there's no more real liberals anymore. In this country, it's either extreme right wing or center right wing. That's the majority of U.S. population now. What was once considered conservative ideas is not just called left wing, while all the extreme conservative ideas are called right wing.
On top of that, my personal observation is this:
Democrats cater to everybody. They campaign to the middle class, poor, women, minorities. And in that is people of all races and religions.
To most people, the republicans only cater to the religious whites. And they've done very little to hide or change that.
Why do you think the politicians mostly abusing gerrymandering are republicans? That's the only way a lot of them are going to get a seat.
People have said this on the boards before about the presidential election: not voting is a vote. Those evangelicals you speak of not showing up and voting says a lot.
They could very well hate Obama, but clearly the hate was stronger for Romney.
Maybe cause he was Mormon? I dunno, IMO, religious sects are nothing more than repping what gang they're in, the way yall talk trash about each other.

The article hurt my brain.
Why are republicans still running their mouth about Obama?
Do they realize he isn't running? He's done next year?
Anyway, Trump is murdering these guys right now.
And I never like Graham or most of them. They talk trash about the Iran deal, but offering no alternative except going to war.
How diplomatic.

So, an undergrad at the U of Kansas came up with this, and the article even admits he used flawed data of 17% labor costs when it's probably closer to 30-35% (according to the link you gave).
BUT, it was picked up by ABC, so it must be truth, right?
And, as the article stated, most fast food franchises are independently owned - not corporately owned.
But - as I stated earlier, why $15 an hour? For fast food, or factory, or mowing jobs, or waiting tables, etc?
To think that any business would just eat the costs of having to pay every person on the payroll a minimum of $15 an hour is foolishness. Businesses don't "eat" the costs - They charge for them.
Plus, as the costs increase, they look for more efficiencies. Like, getting rid of employees and using robots/machines.
I have no problem with raising the minimum wage a bit. But to more than double it, and to think that won't affect the prices of any product we buy is crazy.

Many Democrats pull votes from the right and independents because those voters vote for who they think would make the better president regardless of their party affiliation. Where as when staunch republicans and their leeches the tea-baggers show up to vote, they vote a straight ticket or vote for an independent. Which really only screws themselves out of the race. Blaming "(Evangelicals mostley)" for not turning out to vote seems to point the finger in the wrong direction IMO.

If it is Christie vs. Hillary, that might be a tough call... because at the end of the day the would be about the same. I hope Sanders pulls off the nomination, if not I would be settling for whoever I vote for.

Yeah, man, doubling the price over night would really suck. That's why it's a negotiation piece. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Door-in-the-face_techniqueAs far as the report, I'll link more when I have JSTOR access. Also, businesses' can't pass the cost to its consumers. The wages of the consumer doesn't increase. They do have to eat some, if not most of it. Also, if you've been paying attention then you'd realize that most fast food places are already trying to eliminate positions. Taco Bell has opened up online ordering to reduce their need for cashiers. I wouldn't be surprised if cashiers don't become super niche in the next generation.

We're right of center based on the world political compass. Slightly Right or left of center..bla who cares? Well I guess republicans need something to brag about. But the needle swings back and forth even on the most accurate compass. In general the US public is centered and the politicians that play to the center usually win.

Well the Evangelicals I know are certainly lining up early to vote this time and they will be voting for any Republican who doesn't have horns or even small horns for that matter!

Yes, and I've worked in them, have a business minor and my law degree will be in international commercial law. Do you have a point? Business's cannot out price themselves out of their own market because wage increases. Would you go to Applebees' if they charged as much as Cheesecake Factory? Of course not. Businesses know this.

http://www.dol.gov/minwage/mythbuster.htmMinimum Wage Mythbusters Myth: Raising the minimum wage will only benefit teens. Not true: The typical minimum wage worker is not a high-school student earning weekend pocket money. In fact, 88 percent of those who would benefit from a federal minimum wage increase are age 20 or older, and 55 percent are women. Myth: Increasing the minimum wage will cause people to lose their jobs. Not true: A review of 64 studies on minimum wage increases found no discernable effect on employment. Additionally, more than 600 economists, seven of them Nobel Prize winners in economics, have signed onto a letter in support of raising the minimum wage to $10.10 by 2016. Myth: Small business owners can't afford to pay their workers more, and therefore don't support an increase in the minimum wage. Not true: A June 2014 survey found that more than 3 out of 5 small business owners support increasing the minimum wage to $10.10. Small business owners believe that a higher minimum wage would benefit business in important ways: 58% say raising the minimum wage would increase consumer purchasing power. 56% say raising the minimum wage would help the economy. In addition, 53% agree that with a higher minimum wage, businesses would benefit from lower employee turnover, increased productivity and customer satisfaction. Myth: Raising the federal tipped minimum wage ($2.13 per hour since 1991) would hurt restaurants. Not true: In California, employers are required to pay servers the full minimum wage of $9 per hour - before tips. Even with a recent increase in the minimum wage, the National Restaurant Association projects California restaurant sales will outpace the U.S. average in 2014. Myth: Raising the federal tipped minimum wage ($2.13 per hour since 1991) would lead to restaurant job losses. Not true: Employers in San Francisco must pay tipped workers the full minimum wage of $10.74 per hour – before tips. Yet, the San Francisco restaurant industry has experienced positive job growth over the past few years according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Myth: Raising the federal minimum wage won't benefit workers in states where the hourly minimum rate is already higher than the federal minimum. Not true: Only 23 states and the District of Columbia currently have a minimum wage higher than the federal minimum, meaning a majority of states have an hourly minimum rate at or below the federal minimum. Increasing the federal minimum wage will boost the earnings for some 28 million low-wage workers nationwide. That includes workers in those states already earning above the current federal minimum. Raising the federal minimum wage is an important part of strengthening the economy. A raise for minimum wage earners will put more money in more families' pockets, which will be spent on goods and services, stimulating economic growth locally and nationally. Myth: Younger workers don't have to be paid the minimum wage. Not true: While there are some exceptions, employers are generally required to pay at least the federal minimum wage. Exceptions allowed include a minimum wage of $4.25 per hour for young workers under the age of 20, but only during their first 90 consecutive calendar days of employment with an employer, and as long as their work does not displace other workers. After 90 consecutive days of employment or the employee reaches 20 years of age, whichever comes first, the employee must receive the current federal minimum wage or the state minimum wage, whichever is higher. There are programs requiring federal certification that allow for payment of less than the full federal minimum wage, but those programs are not limited to the employment of young workers. Myth: Restaurant servers don't need to be paid the minimum wage since they receive tips. Not true: An employer can pay a tipped employee as little as $2.13 per hour in direct wages, but only if that amount plus tips equal at least the federal minimum wage and the worker retains all tips and customarily and regularly receives more than $30 a month in tips. Often, an employee's tips combined with the employer's direct wages of at least $2.13 an hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage. When that occurs, the employer must make up the difference. Some states have minimum wage laws specific to tipped employees. When an employee is subject to both the federal and state wage laws, he or she is entitled to the provisions of each law which provides the greater benefits. Myth: Only part-time workers are paid the minimum wage. Not true: About 53 percent of all minimum wage earners are full-time workers, and minimum wage workers contributed almost half (46 percent) of their household's wage and salary income in 2011. Moreover, more than 88 percent of those who would benefit from raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to $10.10 are working adults, and 55 percent are working women. Myth: Increasing the minimum wage is bad for businesses. Not true: Academic research has shown that higher wages sharply reduce employee turnover which can reduce employment and training costs. Myth: Increasing the minimum wage is bad for the economy. Not true: Since 1938, the federal minimum wage has been increased 22 times. For more than 75 years, real GDP per capita has steadily increased, even when the minimum wage has been raised. Myth: The federal minimum wage goes up automatically as prices increase. Not true: While some states have enacted rules in recent years triggering automatic increases in their minimum wages to help them keep up with inflation, the federal minimum wage does not operate in the same manner. An increase in the federal minimum wage requires approval by Congress and the president. However, in his call to gradually increase the current federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour, President Obama has also called for it to adjust automatically with inflation. Eliminating the requirement of formal congressional action would likely reduce the amount of time between increases, and better help low-income families keep up with rising prices. Myth: The federal minimum wage is higher today than it was when President Reagan took office. Not true: While the federal minimum wage was only $3.35 per hour in 1981 and is currently $7.25 per hour in real dollars, when adjusted for inflation, the current federal minimum wage would need to be more than $8 per hour to equal its buying power of the early 1980s and more nearly $11 per hour to equal its buying power of the late 1960s. That's why President Obama is urging Congress to increase the federal minimum wage and give low-wage workers a much-needed boost. Myth: Increasing the minimum wage lacks public support. Not true: Raising the federal minimum wage is an issue with broad popular support. Polls conducted since February 2013 when President Obama first called on Congress to increase the minimum wage have consistently shown that an overwhelming majority of Americans support an increase. Myth: Increasing the minimum wage will result in job losses for newly hired and unskilled workers in what some call a “last-one-hired-equals-first-one-fired” scenario. Not true: Minimum wage increases have little to no negative effect on employment as shown in independent studies from economists across the country. Academic research also has shown that higher wages sharply reduce employee turnover which can reduce employment and training costs. Myth: The minimum wage stays the same if Congress doesn't change it. Not true: Congress sets the minimum wage, but it doesn't keep pace with inflation. Because the cost of living is always rising, the value of a new minimum wage begins to fall from the moment it is set.

Hilary is probably having the easiest campaign run so far.
She just has to keep quiet. play CoD or something.
Trump just handed her the hispanic vote without her saying a word.
the rest of the GOP circus is providing comedians around the world with material for decades.
this is gonna be so entertaining come the debates.

You can only be right if it comes down to Trump vs The Bag lady. The only person to insult hispanics was Trump. One more thing about you ever being right... The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so. -Ronald Reagan

Reagan didn't know if it was day or night half the time. Alzheimer's doesn't just kick in overnight. He was stricken with the disease while still president.

Yes, and I've worked in them, have a business minor and my law degree will be in international commercial law.
Do you have a point? Business's cannot out price themselves out of their own market because wage increases.
Apparently you don't follow along real well? You are correct in that businesses cannot out price themselves from their market, due to wage increases. But what you obviously fail to see is, when wage increases happen, ALL prices go up. At the gas station, at the factory, at Applebees, at Cheesecake Factory, at your local food places. Perhaps you should've MAJORED in business - and run a business. Sorry, sir, when expenses go up, prices go up. No if's, and's or but's about it. Well, except this: Getting rid of employees, and asking more of the employees they keep. Let's say you really have run a business. Let's say it was 20 employees, and half of them were making $10 an hour. Your company grosses So, 10 employees get their wages increased to %15 an hour, and 10 employees get their wages increased beyond the $15. Let's just take the bottom 10, okay? 10 employees, 40 hours a week. That's 400 labor hours. Take the 400 and multiply by $5. There's an extra $8500 per month in labor wages. Is your company going to just pay that and smile? Or is your company going to raise its prices - because every other competitor is raising wages and prices as well? In your $100,000 a month company, of which you'd be lucky to make a 10% profit - you're just going to eat the extra $8500? I know why you're going into law.
