I have no idea who will win the race in the end, but it sure seems like the early frontrunner rarely wins the nomination.

I think that Kasich is going to be the GOP nominee, and I think that he has the conservative chops, and also the ability to compromise, to win the whole thing.

Just as an example, Huckabee won Iowa in 2008. Romney won the Wyoming caucuses. McCain won New Hampshire.

Kasich is probably the most electable next to Jeb, but no way does he win. His anti-union views, and support of for-profit K-12 education will do him in.

Sadly, his views won't do him in - his lack of name recognition probably will. And yes, that's in indictment on the whole political process.

Hillary is only a candidate because of her last name...I can't believe anyone would vote for a career liar and user and blamer........but they will.

I don't think most people even know what he's saying... he's just saying it very loud and confrontational... and to the part of the republican base that feels like Boehner and company have been walked all over (and they have).. it resonates.

At some point Trump is going to have to stand up and make his points and defend his positions in a legit debate format (if he doesn't go too far and self-destruct first).. he is vulnerable and if the republicans can't put somebody up there that can bury him, then they deserve what they get.

Everyone should get to see first hand next Thursday. In Cleveland no less.

August 6, 2015
9pm ET - Top 10 Candidates (2 hours)
5pm ET - Lower Tier (1 hour)
Aired On: Fox News Channel
Location: Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, OH
Sponsors: Fox News, facebook
Moderators: Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace

Of course half this board won't get to watch because they detest Fox News so much I think their TV's might explode if tuned to that channel.

I might tune in for a chuckle or two. Should be entertaining. Trump will dominate the stage (if invited).

one side is way too much war mongering.

the other side is way too much perfect planet utopia.

GOP’s Kasich, Perry battle for final spot in first GOP presidential debate

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, a Republican presidential candidate, on Sunday defended his support of Medicaid under ObamaCare, arguing the decision was “morally” right.

The issue and Kasich’s explanation was a likely prelude to Thursday's first 2016 Republican presidential primary debate, hosted by Fox News and Facebook, should he qualify for one of the final spots.

He told “Fox News Sunday” that expanding Medicaid saves money and “morally helps people have great life or better life.”

“Every once in a while, we help people get out of a ditch,” he also said.

Kasich is hovering around the 10th and final debate spot in the GOP field of 17 -- along with Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who on Sunday also made an appearance on the Fox News Channel.

The Aug. 6 debate, moderated by Fox News' Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace, will be held at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland. To qualify, candidates must meet all constitutional requirements; must announce and register a formal campaign; must file all required paperwork with the Federal Election Commission; and must place in the top 10 in an average of the five most recent, recognized national polls leading up to Aug. 4.

Both Kasich and Perry said they want to qualify, but that their campaigns would continue either way.

“I’d like to be there,” said Kasich, who entered the race late last month. “It’s an important part of my political future. We’ll just have to wait and see how polls run out.”

Kasich also argued that he stayed in Ohio to help run the state while many of the other 2016 candidates were “travelling around the country making a name for themselves.”

Perry said the debate was “not a one-shot pony” and that what he does in the early-voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina is equally, if not more, important.

He also vowed again to do better than he did in the 2012 debates.

“The people will see a very focused, disciplined candidate,” said Perry, who has said the consequences of back surgery and getting into the race late hurt his performance.

Kasich also said he’s “opposed” to ObamaCare, but that expanding Medicaid helps the disabled and those with drug problems and that lending a “helping hand” is a conservative principle.

The two-term governor also said he disagrees with critics who say the state will be left with the bill for Medicaid expansion bill when the federal money ends.

Prior to becoming governor, Kasich served in the U.S. House from 1983 to 2001, where in 1995 he ascended to chairman of the chamber’s Budget committee. In 1997, he helped seal a federal balanced budget deal.

Kasich also made a White House bid in 2000, but dropped out before the Iowa Straw Poll.

And who would know the system better than he?

Trump is the guy yelling and shaking his fist at everyone yet you and your kind will not support him because he has an "R" for his political party. You cry and complain that they are all
the same and your vote doesn't matter, then when someone different comes along, you hate on him. If only he carried a Rainbow flag! rolleyes

First time splashing into this thread... forgive for not reading the previous pages in advance please.

I gotta say, Trump is shaking the ground. I didn't like him at first when he announced candidacy because of his TV Show that I can vaguely remember and etc, I figured it would be just another "pop star" trying to make it big.

Tell you one thing though, he's saying some things that have me thinking my first hit on him with the first impression bow and arrow may have been a bit too harsh, and undeserving.

I will be/have been monitoring him and of course some others, and will continue to do so...

Bernie Sanders is slowly and methodically winning this thing. I personally know 5-6 die hard Republicans that are thinking about voting for him. Considering that I don't really know that many Republicans anymore, that's a lot.

i've notice that when people talk about free handouts, it's about the poor.

cause they never say crap with regards to free handouts corporations get.

Neither party represents something I stand for. A Sanders versus Paul election is what we would get in a healthy democracy (representative republic but same idea). Instead, we'll probably get another ball-less, watered down choice between two pandering populists. It looks now like it would be Rubio/Clinton, and I'm just not sure the nation is ready for a woman president, or even in the mood for another Clinton. Web would be so much safer of a choice for the Democrats.

I have a hard time seeing Walker getting the nod because of his lack of formal education.

That would be a neat bumper sticker.

Trump had deferments.. so did Biden (5 if I recall).. Hillary protested the Vietnam war adamantly and won't release a lot of her college work... Obama did some blow in college... Sanders is a Jewish socialist who was "of age" during Vietnam but I could find nothing on why he didn't serve, maybe he was never drafted...

If this election becomes about those things, we've already lost.

Of course. Not only will it be as entertaining as the WWE, but we might see some real fighting! Plus it's funny to watch career businessmen and doctors have the same exact say that Governors have in a party that's slowly killing itself.

duh, won't you be watching the democratic debates?

it's important to view both sides of the isle. one of these losers on either side is gonna win. might as well see who's gonna create the most interesting sound bites in the process.

i might even wait to burn one til after the debates is over.

bro its funny, cause people are always like "we want a president who has had actual experience"

but then look at the field. they forgot to add "successful" to that sentence.

Scott walker tanked in his own state, huckabee sucked, Trump has no political experience, Christie was trash, so i dunno whats going on.

entertainment forreal. WWE couldn't have wrote a cheesier script than this.
