I wonder what that Minnesota dentist who killed the lion with a crossbow was think?
Here's a little "free thinking".
Maybe he was nostalgic for another time? Around the time of Teddy Roosevelt (~ 1890s).
Pretty bogus "sport hunting". Sounds like it was as challenging as killing a lion in a zoo.
What's the thrill of killing a lion in 2015 anyway?
I doubt it was for the lion meat. Was it to thin the burgeoning pesky lion population? Those damn lions, they're as thick as mosquitos.

I was somewhat surprised to see the universal outrage at this guy.
I simply don't care about lions. Save their DNA and stick some in zoos. Their survival in the wild is meaningless to me. . The ranch I live on has coyotes and mountain lions. I'd much prefer it not when I'm out hiking. I imagine people with lions in their backyard aren't so positive about them

My customers have been ranting about this. Apparently it was a special lion that was tagged/track. It was lured from protected land to private property so it could be killed. Then they claimed they lured the wrong lion.

I was somewhat surprised to see the universal outrage at this guy. It's faux outrage for most.. they didn't care about lions yesterday and they won't care about them by the weekend.. but they will go on social media to express their outrage today because all of their friends and the celebs they like are doing it. I honestly don't see the need to kill a lion though...

it's more of the fact that the lion was protected and tagged, and got popped anyway.

This guy paid $54,000 to hunt a lion. This is a lot of money to address problems in Africa and is why they hold these hunts in the first place.

This guy paid a lot of money to do something just 'for the hell of it'. Did he need to do that? Was lion meat his only source of food?
I don't mind hunting at all if you're into it and you eat what you kill and if you wanna make a trophy out of it that's fine too, as long as you ate it.
But just to shoot something to say you shot it?
WE DON'T NEED A QB BEFORE WE GET A LINE THAT CAN PROTECT HIM my two cents...

Hi Ted. Hey, there are some meats you can't eat. I know of Fox and Raccoon but don't know about lion. They contain an organism that won't die when cooked and will travel to your brain when you eat them. They will cause your brain to swell and kill you. just a little FYI

I'm not an animal lover or anything, but I don't see why they don't deserve a place on our planet as well. I get that animals and humans shouldn't be on equal footing, but there should be Lions in the wild. And this dentist....... He's become this week's "Most Hated Man In America", don't worry though, next week the 24hr News Stations/Internet will find a new participant in the "Most Hated" Game

Just more liberal, tree hugging, step over the homeless man to help the poor animal, hysteria. A homeless man isn't hunted and killed for sport or trophy. Shot with a crossbow tracked for 40 hours until he lies down. When found shot to finish him off. Then skinned and beheaded with his carcass left behind. So typical. You don't know anything about upsetting the balance of nature do ya? This Lion's pride will suffer great consequences because of this poacher. He knew exactly where he was. He's been caught poaching brown bears before this. Maybe you should read up on a subject before posting stupidity.

I'm not a liberal, or a tree hugger but I don't want the lion to become like the White Rhino. Supposedly there are only four on earth left. If that's not enough to make you at least somewhat disgusted, then the fact it was in a lion sanctuary where it was protected, lured out of it and then killed *should* but judging by some of the very cold comments made, suppose some won't blink an eye. Shame imo.

LMAO....The money goes to the corrupt landlords in that area. They facilitate it. And that's who baited the lion out of his protected area so they could collect all the money from the hunter. err I mean poacher.

JC: I used to think Big Game Hunting in Africa was okay. Guys paid for the permits, the money was supposed to go to saving these animals.
But this happened in Zimbabwe. One of the poorer most corrupt countries in the world. I remember reading that thousands of people signed a petition sent to President Mugabe. LOL. Like, really? Send a petition to the guy who's been in power for like 35 years and really doesn't care what anyone else thinks? Kind of a joke.
The money lines people's pockets. It doesn't go toward conservation. And this guy paid 50,000$ or whatever to tell himself they he "bought a permit" and did the right thing before killing a Lion in a sanctuary

The story goes something like this: Once upon a time, we exterminated the wolves from the Rocky Mountain West, including the part that would become Yellowstone National Park. We thought this was a good idea because wolves frightened us, and also because they ate the domestic livestock we liked a lot more. But then interest in environmental conservation took hold. Scientists discovered that without wolves present in Yellowstone to hunt and kill prey, the elk population grew so large it ate up all the young willow trees until there were none. This affected the habitat of many other animals and plants in harmful ways and the ecosystem became unbalanced. Or, as science puts it, we caused a harmful “top-down trophic cascade” by removing an apex predator, the wolf, from the food web. It followed that returning the apex predator might right that balance; and field biologists began to find some evidence for this idea, even as popular support increased for bringing wolves back. So with conservation ethics and ecological science in pretty good alignment, we re-introduced the wolves to Yellowstone, where today they scare away the hungry elk herds from the tasty young willows. Thanks to the wolf, balance has been restored.

Aside from the money that may or may not help that country (though it'll most likely just line the pockets of the local people in charge), the "legal" permit, the mistake of louring the wrong lion off protected land, and the overall impact to the average Joe or PETA-supporting fanatic, I don't see the point of trophy hunting at all.
I get that a deer or turkey doesn't know they're being hunted, just like this lion, but at least most of the deer and turkeys are eaten. And deer cause so many other problems. A lion is an endangered animal that's only going on your wall. So dumb.
I'm glad to hear this guy is getting a lot of negative attention on social media, but I'm upset to hear the dental practice he works/worked at is essentially ruined too. There are other dentists, hygienists, receptionists, and patients in tough situations now. I'm all for a bit of shame for something like this, but people are posting his home address, phone number, and his kids names everywhere. Plus, he's been receiving death threats too. Nobody would go through with that, but come on, get real people.

Where would you suggest they get all the lions to stuff? Have you never seen a stuffed animal toy before? Now you have me rethinking all those teddy bears for children, are they really just killed baby cubs and stuffed?

Where would you suggest they get all the lions to stuff? This one isn't quite life size but it's close. He could have bought one of these for a couple hundred bucks pretended to stalk it through is back yard, then shot it. It would have had all the same suspense and he would have saved himself $50K.. Did you REALLY think I was talking about real stuffed lions?

A crossbow is a sideways, Manly Man version of the lowly bow and arrow.
And widely known as the most inhumane & cruel weapon to use for hunting wild game. Thousands of wild game are shot and wounded or left to die each year because many hunters have no clue on how to follow a blood trail and track them down after shooting them. With a long bow, re-curve bow, or a compound bow, the broad-head arrow doesn't get buried deep into the flesh like a crossbow arrow does. The long shafted arrow will get kicked about in the brush opening the wound more for a faster kill and easier to track. You really need to read up on subjects that you know nothing about if you want to have a real conversation. Otherwise it's all just BS in your posts
