Remember there’s no accounting for taste. But these might be universal truths:
Jungle Fever by Chakachas
I hesitate to call this a song. It’s a guy and woman grunting, groaning and moaning as if they’re engaged in the sex act. I’d call it pornographic. I guess it’s “entertaining” if you’re home alone, the lights are turned down low, the door’s locked, you’ve had a few brewskis…
Anything by Yoko Ono
Yoko was really into the essence of...of...of... I’m not sure what. Her “songs” were basically primal screams and chants; “YA YA YA YA EY EY EY AH AH EY YA YA EY YA EYA,,,” As if humans never developed speech. If you ever heard one of her songs on your radio, your radio was set on an alternative, very alternative, way out there radio station.
Anything by Barry Manilow
Slow, conceited “love songs” (if you loved yourself) “I write the songs that make the whole world sing.”
Meet you at the Copacabana (Men’s Room)

I am not going to list any obscure or even lesser-known artists. I will stick to choosing only people, bands, groups, etc that sold a lot of records and were/are famous.
--AC/DC: I despise the lead singer's voice. Devil music.
--The Four Seasons: Fake, bubble-gum, contrived.
--Bing Crosby: LOL......don't know why, but he annoyed me.
--Barry Manilow: I agree w/you on this guy.
--Elvis: Terrible voice. Fake.
--Pitbull: I don't listen to rap, but heard this guy during a football game. Are you kidding me?
--Katy Perry: Another one w/a terrible voice and moronic lyrics.

--AC/DC: I despise the lead singer's voice. Devil music. Yes! Thank you! I cannot stand AC/DC! Lana Del Rey: I don't know if she's serious or it's a character but it's terrible. Brown-Eyed Girl -- Van Morrison: I like other VM songs... maybe it's just association of that song with situations where I've heard it but I don't like it. Blister in the Sun -- Violent Femmes: Nope nope nope nopenopenopenope noppity nope. If I think of more I will update. The worst song in the history of Western Civilization is the intro "music" to Thomas the Tank Engine. I swear if I was in charge of one of the four lowest rings of Hell I'd be piping that garbage on loop... Maybe two tracks of it in a round. But not the top three circles... they wouldn't have deserved it.

Gotta laugh when Frankie Valli sings "Walk Like A Man" in a falsetto. Walk like a man, sing like Tiny Tim. --Elvis: Terrible voice. Fake.
Whoa - now you've done it - the wrath of millions of retirees is about to come down on you. Don't you know he's "The Kang"? LOL. --Katy Perry: Another one w/a terrible voice and moronic lyrics. Wait, Katy Perry sings?

I have fond memories of "Blister in the Sun". Florida, 1991. No sex involved, in any manner. But geez, dancing the night away with an ex nfl cheerleader certainly was fun.

Agreed. Gonna toss a weird one out there. Led Zeppelin. I can not stand their lead singer. I think it is the same as AC/DC, I dislike the vocals of heavy metal.

I can't stand Pitbull's music for some reason
Never an Elvis fan, but respect those who are
Don't really like Nickleback ... all songs sound the same
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

i actually liked that song...
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

We are in agreement about AC/DC, but man, Led Zeppelin? Got disagree here. They aren't heavy metal. They are a pure rock group w/some of the greatest musicians of their time period.
Not knocking your opinion. All of this is subjective. Just sayin'............

Zeppelin opened the door for heavy metal and all kinds of other rock...
I think most people would like at least one Zeppelin song from their collection.
I once heard a guy on the radio refer to Led Zeppelin as "the blues on steroids" I think that fits quite well.

They were the freakiest group of all-time. Some groups tried to act like they were freaky. It was part of their personna, but LZ actually was a crazy group. The stories of what they did in hotels cannot be repeated on a message board.
Btw...........have any of you ever played Stairway to Heaven in reverse? I don't like the message, but the fact that they could pull that off amazes me to this day.

I wanna say something. Kudos to rocky for starting all of these music threads. Like Clem, I wish I would have started them. I have had a couple of ideas for music threads, but this seems to be rocky's gig. I absolutely love music. I rarely watch TV. Haven't watched a TV show since Game 6 of the NBA Finals. I play music almost all day. I have a portable Bose speaker that I carry all over, have wireless headphones, a sophisticated sound system, etc. It's what I love. I could talk about music all day long. Sports and music. I'm passionate about both.........as well as reading. I love reading, but I realize not too many people read for pleasure in today's society. You know........music is so personal. I know I get upset when someone disses one of my favorite artists. I even got upset when Clem didn't respond to my questions about Layla Hathaway. I figured he didn't like her. It upset me when people didn't agree w/me about BB King. I even felt the need to defend Led Zeppelin. It's so stupid, really. I know it's all subjective, but man, it's so, so personal. It's like music almost defines what kind of person you are. Are you shallow, deep, confused, soulful, etc? I love soulful music. I also love Pink Floyd. They are my favorite group. Zep is my second favorite. No wonder I am often dazed and confused while I am comfortably numb. Thanks rocky for all of these threads. I really appreciate them.

Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Black Sabbath was the one heavy metal group I really liked.
Paranoid, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Iron Man..........damn man, that was the $%!+
Btw--------have Pandora on now........love how you can customize it. Listening to Jimmy singing Purple Haze. Love that dude's music.
Neil Young once said that he studied Jimmy's playing and he didn't recognize most of the things that he had been taught about notes, chords, etc in regards to Jimmy's guitar playing, but he said that Jimmy made it all work and what a musical genius he was. I get that it might not be cool to like Jimmy because he was so highly regarded, but if you ever take the time to sit down and just listen to what he does w/his chords and notes......you will be astounded. No one else did it like that. No one.

I even got upset when Clem didn't respond to my questions about Layla Hathaway. Must have missed that one. I don't always hit every thread... and I sometimes even miss posts that are in threads that I'm in. Sorry about that. For the record, she's got a very nice set of pipes. Knows how to shape a phrase with controlled melisma and a really nice sense of time. I was a huge fan of her Dad's.

Cool. If you wanna go back to the favorite vocalists thread, I posted a couple of links of her signing some songs. You might enjoy her singing her dad's hits. I loved Donny, too. Here is one I almost guarantee you will enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfKPnmZFb94 Man, if that doesn't give you goosebumps........ Oh, and I know this song might be considered corny or shallow by some....maybe even by me at a time when I thought I was so cool.........but man, this timeless song is so sweetly soulful...........Roberta and Donny singing Closer to You... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTf0I5f-yhQ Dang man..........this stuff tears me up. It's like faint tug on the heartstrings of years gone by and what will never be again......

Clem...and others if you like this kind of music....... keep listening after The Closer I Get to You concludes. One of my all-time favorite songs "The Secret Garden" plays. It was on Quincy Jones album. I have it, can't remember the name of the particular album, but this song includes Barry White, James Ingram, and Barge. It's freaking awesome. I think James Ingram has an all-time great voice even though he was never a huge success. Barge sounds kinda like Michael. Barry White could make women disrobe by reading the weather report......LOL Then, there are songs by Luther and then Melvin and the Blue Notes. Are you kidding me????????????? This is GREAT STUFF! You know, I forgot to mention Luther on the Greatest Vocalists thread. He was so so smooth. Always and Forever is one of my all-time favorite songs. LOL.........this is why I LOVE music. A guy like me can listen to Pink Floyd and not blink an eye while enjoying someone like Luther. Oh.........and Clem..........check out Lalah Hathaway w/Joe Sample signing "Fever." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTAT663_wDcLoved Joe. The King of Smooth.........that is my own moniker for him. Lalah's throaty voice makes me the recipient of having a "FEVER!" Edit: Uhmmm..........not signing.......that would ruin the effect of what I meant.............Singing man...singing!
