So Ray and the Browns continue to shop for the Hope diamond at flea markets. You might call it "due diligence", leaving no stone unturned, but I think it looks desperate and ill-conceived. 31 other teams find good receivers in the first, second, or third round of the draft, but not us. We'll get ours from Shecky's Second Hand Discount Market. Receivers are so over-rated anyway.

it is rather disconcerting that we don't have a top-notch WR ... Odell Beckham would look MUCH better in Brown than Justin Gilbert does

As of now we have "wasted" 1st round picks ... Gilbert, Erving, Johnny, Weeden, Richardson, etc ... none of them are consistently helping us win right now

what a mean thing to do, can you imagine the pressure that young man must have had growing up with that name

pretty sure when Pryor spouted off to the media that Browns would regret releasing him pretty much sealed the deal for him coming back

Zimmerman is listed on the website as being from Oregon State, but he is from Kansas State. He was an instinctual playmaker at KSU... very fun to watch, but he is a bit of a stiff athlete for the NFL I think. You know how people say "who is that guy on defense who is going to step up and make a play?" He was that guy at KSU all the time.

I like Ray Drew at Georgia, as I got to actually see him play end in a 3-4, but I don't see him coming up for any reason other than injury to one of our linemen.

Short legs don't mean speed, but quickness is another deal. I take quickness over speed.

All day, every day. Speed is seldom used. Quickness is used on every play. Give me a player with both, they win.

Julio Jones has both and size. It's scary.

Yeah, I was going to add to my post "give me a player with quickness, speed, and size........."

No doubt. Given one or the other, give me the guy who can quickly break out, get open, and get chased down after 15-20 yards. Getting open is key #1 for a receiver, so for me, size and top line speed are secondary.

DiManche goes on to our active roster. They must really not like Hayes Pullard.

BEREA, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday signed LB Jayson DiManche (pronounced dih-MAHNCH) off Kansas City’s practice squad. To make room on the roster, the club waived RB Shaun Draughn.

The club also signed TE Brian Leonhardt to the practice squad and released DB Ty Zimmerman from the practice squad.

DiManche is 6-1, 245-pounds and in his third NFL season out of Southern Illinois. Originally signed by the Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2013, he has appeared in 28 career games with one start. He has totaled seven tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery on defense, while adding 17 stops on special teams. This year, he was waived by the Bengals on Sept. 11, and spent last week on the Chiefs’ practice squad. A native of Hamilton, N.J., DiManche graduated from Hamilton West High School.

Draughn appeared in five games as a reserve this season.

Leonhardt is 6-5, 255-pounds and in his second NFL season out of Bemidji State. Originally signed by Oakland as an undrafted free agent in 2013, he appeared in 12 games with three starts last season with the Raiders. He recorded six receptions for 35 yards and a touchdown. He released by the Raiders during final roster cuts this season. A native of Blaine Minn., Leonhardt graduated from Spring Lake Park High School.

Currently the Browns active roster is a practice squad with over-the-hill Band-Aid players, budding malcontents, and inexperienced young-and-never-won players, under the temporary leadership of a shotgun wedded coach and GM.

I don't know if that is the case. It looks like they like DiManche and if you sign a player off another teams PS you have to put him on the active roster.

Right. I'm saying that they are signing linebackers off of other teams instead of promoting Pullard (who has been with us since May). That makes it seem like they don't like Pullard.

Was DiManche one of the "focus" TC guys on Hard Knocks that flashed but was cut anyway?

I'm hoping it's an "overthinking" thing, where they figure they're only going to keep DiManche on the roster until Robertson is healthy, and don't want Pullard to look good on the field and have to cut him and have some other team sign him from our PS.

I just don't see it that way. I see it as they like both. To get one they had to put him on the top roster. To keep the other they had to do nothing. The way the practice squad has changed over the last 6 weeks, if they didn't like Pullard, they would have purged him as well. To bring up both would have meant having to cut someone else other than Droughns.

Do we really need four TEs and a FB, who is really a TE?

Two guys will have to go if they activate both Winston and Gaines. My guesses are DiManche (in a couple weeks when Robertson is healthy and the deadline looms) and Don Jones. A darkhorse possibility being Malcolm Johnson.

Of course, someone could get injured and make the decision even easier.

I'm wondering about Bibbs and Housler. Do you think there is any chance that either might get the axe?

Here is why I wonder:

Bibbs hasn't been playing mostly because he is supposedly the worst blocker ever.

Barnidge is catching a lot of balls in the role of a receiving TE. I know he has a reputation as a blocker, but man, he is getting blown up this year. He's been very weak as a blocker.

Dray is the only true blocker I the group, so I think he is safe.

Housler is another guy who isn't a blocker and his production has been poor.

I just don't get why we need 3 guys like Bibbs, Housler, and Johnson.

I'd rather have a LBer or DB type that can also play on special teams. Heck, I wish that Kitchen was still available. I think we need help on the DL in regards to our situational rotations.

That is an understatement , and I like the guy !

Yeah, definitely a possibility. They might end up cutting or IRing one of those two guys... Housler's got a hammy right now and those usually take a while to heal fully. Might give them an easy out.

It has gotten to the point where they are taking Barnidge out on run plays.

I wonder though if they couldn't leave him in and run to the other side at least enough to keep the defense somewhat honest about pass or run. Then again, if we had a fullback who could block, we could lead him to Barnidge's side and give him help.

You can't run to the other side if Barnidge is blocking Khalil Mack (or someone like him) and getting blown out of the water every play.

He was hurt during the game last week. That's the biggest reason he sat out so many plays.

His blocking has however sucked this year.

So you're saying if Barnidge and K. Mack are both on the offense's right side, we can't run a pitch to the left - even if Mack blows up Barnidge? I disagree. I believe Johnson could get to the outside and turn the corner - provided the blocking on the left is sound before Mack could run him down. Even if he does somehow run him down before he turns the corner, we've at least kept the defense more honest than only having Barnidge in on passing plays.
