Exactly. We may draw our energy and drive from with-in, but if you want to advance professionally, and maybe attract a woman or two, you do need to learn how to work a room, so to speak.

When I was 15 my dad made me read 'How to Win Friends and Influence People', by Dale Carnegie. He quizzed me on it and made me practice it when his friends came over. He told me that to be successful you had to be able to "work a room" with people from all walks of life.

I still skim the chapters from time to time.
