For meat? Deer. Venison. It cost less (license, tag, pork to mix with the burger/grind) than $2 per pound. I mean, I literally less than that.
But yes, I've seen shortages at the local Dollar General store- which is where I get cat food.
I don't buy the groceries for us, so I can't comment on the availability, or the price.
You ever seen a deer in Florida? Might as well hunt squirrel and get the same amount of meat.
