As Purp explained, they are designed to work alternative muscles. As I said, the number of reps makes a difference. It's not always about how much you can do. Many times it is about how long you can do it.

Most anybody can curl a 10b lb dumbbell, but if you do it enough times you are going to feel it.

Sometimes you work on raw strength. Sometimes stamina. Strength without stamina doesn't help a football player in the 4th qtr. Lack of stamina doesn't help prevent injury.
