Play calling is in some ways like a catcher calling a pitch. Except there are a lot more plays than types of pitches and pitch locations.

Let's say a catcher calls for a fastball low and away. The pitcher misses and the ball is middle in. Sometimes they get away with it. Sometimes Not.

When a play is called; sure it can be a bad call. It can also be poor execution.

The end results are what happens in games. That is the nature of sports.

I have watched football for over 60 years. I don't care if it was Lindy Infante, Bruce Arians, or Bill Belichick.

Fans always complain about play calling and believe they could do better. Except fans have maybe a third of the information of the guy who is calling the plays.

Good players and good teams execute well. When that happens coaches look like geniuses.

When they don't execute fans want them fired. Then the new play caller calls plays and not much changes.
