https://www.nflanalysis.net/marcus-mariota-predicted-to-sign-with-browns-in-nfl-free-agency/

Mariota has a no trade clause and he signed a two year deal jn 2020.

Honestly, I have no idea if he will come to Cleveland. I was a big fan when he entered the draft. He is 28.

He played well as a backup. Could he do what Tannehill has done? TBD.

He is a upgrade over Keenum. So if there is an injury. Mariota is a proven player. IMO he could do well in the offense we have run.

Who knows if he is coming and what it would cost?

I'm more curious about what exactly we're trying to do with the QB room (competent backup that 99% likely won't start, or someone that will actually provide competition to Mayfield). Watch us agonize over this and then not even move on from Keenum... :-p

I think if Keenum is willing to take a reduced contract he’ll be back.

I don’t think Baker necessarily needs competition. He should be the starter in this scenario. But there is a non zero chance Baker completely flops. If that happens I would like to have a competent player ready to play behind him instead of Case Keenum.

I'm not convinced he'd actually be an upgrade over Keenum.

Do we know what we're looking for in a 2nd QB? If we're looking for a capable backup, then I hope we look to restructure Keenum. The guy is solid if unspectacular, and knows the O. If we're looking for competition for Baker, then looking at the FA scrapheap for former busts seems kinda silly. Legit competition for Mayfield would have to come in the form of a trade or possibly a draft pick... both of which would require using significant resources (ones that we need to improve other positions, which we need to do regardless of who is under center).

Marcus Mariota is the perfect backup to Baker and/or a rookie QB. He can come in and be around a league average starter.
