Today, Friday like everyday starts with a cup of Joe.

This past Sunday was no different. I got up. Made the coffee. Opened the laptop. I started to feel something I have never felt before. A kind of overall tightness.

I looked up heart attack symptoms. I checked every box. The pain was not bad as far as pain goes. What sticks is the feeling that "I have never felt this."

I live with my daughter and a grandson. She stuck her head inside my door. "I said something is wrong with me I think I am having a heart attack. See if we have any aspirin. We did not. I told her to run to the store and get some aspirin. I took the aspirin when she returned. I threw up. Then it was off to the hospital.

Massive heart attack from a blood clot in a major heart artery (widow maker). They operated and installed two shunts.

And here I am sipping coffee.

At 76 you hope to learn things along the way.

Like many men we are kind of raised in that mentality "I am not going to the doctor unless.

But as you age you find out about the experiences of others as well as your own. I changed my ideas and if anything is out of the ordinary.

Preventive maintenance means getting physicals. Staying on top of your health. Being proactive.

In regards to "eating right." I guess you can look at that under many lights. I rarely eat out. I stay away from certain foods. Especially fried foods. I eat lots of fruit and a good amount of veggies. I am a rare bird when it comes to liquids. I don't drink alcohol. I drink almost nothing more than room temperature water because I like it.

I am not food perfect. I love ice cream and bakery goodies. Overall I pay attention to what I eat but I am not overly strict. Food choices are complicated.

I refuse to buy bottled water. I effing hate plastic.

What I have found that works for me is "zero water filter."

Set it next to my kitchen sink hanging into the sink. The water tastes great. I use it to drink and cook with.

The filter cartridges are fairly expensive but they last quite long.
