I am just putting this out there.

Odell is a 30 year old free agent coming back from 2 ACL injuries.

We need a receiver. Did Odell burn the bridge? Would Berry even consider Odell?

Obviously we have new quarterback. Odell was popular with players.

I have no idea what his market value is. No idea if he is healthy? If he is he will play somewhere.

Is Odell a sideshow attraction? Or, could he really help?

I honestly do not have answers.

god NO
Posted By: Versatile Dog Re: Odell - 02/02/23 02:17 PM
Odell was being courted by Dallas, the Giants, KC, and Buffalo late in the season. All were teams looking for someone to help put them over the top in the playoff race. Dallas was about to sign him, but then he took a physical. Obviously, he was not healthy.

When healthy, he is still a dynamic WR and he proved that once again in LA last year. He made huge catch after huge catch during the Rams' Super Bowl run and most people said he was on his way to winning the Super Bowl MVP before he blew the knee out.

Many fans and media types don't like him, but he's been well-liked by teammates in NY, Cleveland, and LA. It would be hilarious to see heads explodes from a certain segment of our population.........but, I don't see it happening.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Odell - 02/02/23 02:23 PM
The real question from the Browns is how did he really leave KS and AB?

I wonder if KS or AB would consider him? He is not going to get big money nor a long term deal.

Posted By: Versatile Dog Re: Odell - 02/02/23 02:29 PM
I'd answer, but that question will just lead to another huge fight and I'm not into dealing w/that group again.

And comments like this aren't designed to start a fight?

NO WAY...he burned his bridges to Cleveland and that cannot be undone or forgiven.

I thought Odell was a lock to sign with the Rams...

frank..I agree...blowing out the same knee two years in a row might be a concern of the Rams and should be a concern for any team considering him.
Posted By: Milk Man Re: Odell - 02/02/23 02:56 PM
I cannot fathom a world in which Berry and Stefanski are dumb enough to go down that road again.

Also, OBJ does not and never did want to be in a market like Cleveland. Landry made it tolerable for him.

I thought it was the other knee but I do think that have the Rams pause and that trickles out to other teams.

I wonder if there were any personality type things that added to the concern the Rams had. We will never know I suspect.

God. Please. NO.

And NO in so many ways. No, they wouldn't consider him. No, he wouldn't come back to bless us with his presence. No, he wouldn't make a difference; especially in $$ per reception.

Oh, wait. One YES.

Yes, he is a sideshow attraction.
Posted By: Bard Dawg Re: Odell - 02/02/23 03:46 PM
Not even with a restraining order to gag his father? If the quality clubs are taking a pass on him, we should avoid all contact with OBJ. Put him in the same file as Josh Gordon and burn it. Shame for considering him.

Just say no... diva, drama queen,
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Odell - 02/02/23 04:42 PM
From my understanding and according to Dallas, the only reason he wasn't signed last season was the knee wasn't ready. I think the Browns are in a position where they need a very productive WR on the cheap and short term. OBJ certainly fits that description. He provided proof of that in LA. How things were left between he and the FO, which nobody actually seems to know would be the only factor preventing it IMO.
Posted By: PrplPplEater Re: Odell - 02/02/23 04:59 PM
I will likely be wrong, but I have a feeling that his career is done and he's headed to retirement.
Posted By: FATE Re: Odell - 02/02/23 05:01 PM
Very productive WR?? He had 27 catches in a half-season.

With his usual low catch rate and his usual low Y/Tgt.

In one half season he complained about drug testing (I'm sure that has nothing to do with snorting coke off a chick's stomach), threw a punch at another player, and then blew out the same knee from two years before. He finished his days with the Rams (probably cemented the outcome) by dissing them in a Tweet and saying they weren't willing to pay him what he's worth -- while he was still injured.

The "high production" doesn't seem to match the headaches. And all of ^ that was while he was still gawking at the limelight during the honeymoon portion of his days in LA... we're talking about a player that notoriously pouts when things aren't going his way.

No thanks a million times over.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Odell - 02/02/23 05:13 PM
Including the playoffs he played in 12 games with 48 receptions for 593 yards and 7 td's. And the 12th game was the SB where he only played a small portion of it while still adding a TD on the scoreboard.

https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/odell-beckham-jr.-stats-with-rams-including-playoffs

I know there are people on this board who hate players pouting and running their mouths. I understand that. Others think getting a bargain price for a good WR and winning are higher on their priority list. To each their own.

O'dell means we will win?

Well, it's settled then.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Odell - 02/02/23 05:19 PM
I rolled this out there because I knew what the reaction would be.

Pit makes a good point. He is short term and would be cheap. Odell did have talent. Does he still? I don't know.

Personally I don't think there is a chance for many reasons.

It means that watson needs another legitimate target to help the Browns win. I know it seems as though you wish to try and act like this is something else but it's not. A big bodied WR with a proven ability to catch tough passes and make great plays would certainly help fill a hole the Browns have. Of course the price and terms would be very critical in whether the Browns sign him but price doesn't seem to be that much of an issue for them these days.

It's no different than saying that signing better DT's means those who support it care about winning.

Signing watson doesn't "mean we will win". It means the odds are much, much better.

But you go ahead and do you.
Posted By: FATE Re: Odell - 02/02/23 05:55 PM
A big bodied WR??

He'd be the smallest WR on the team lol.

Next he'll be "durable".

I probably don't "prioritize winning" the way you do. thumbsup

Lots of factors to consider.

30 years old

2 ACL's

His friendship with Jarvis and the way we treated Jarvis on his way out

I don't know why we'd want him or why he'd want to come back!

Nothing against him. Very talented guy,,,
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Odell - 02/02/23 06:15 PM
I think he would want to play with what he feels is a QB with the ability to maximize his numbers and skill set. He very well may think Watson fits the situation he's looking for.

And there's a reason why you think that.

He has also said he wants to play with an elite offense and with a team that is a Super Bowl contender.

We would have to pass his criteria first. Although I'm sure Stefanski and Berry will beg and beg, and urge to let "bygones be bygones", there's no way he's coming to Cleveland anyway.

Really the whole conversation is futile.

I agree.

But, as others have said, I can't imagine a lucrative 1-yr thing as a 2nd or 3rd WR playing in half the snaps would keep him away from a playoff-caliber team. More power to him, as long it's not with us.

As an aside - I wonder what "retirement" really means in the big scope of things to ultra-talented NFL athletes (especially WRs it seems) with tendencies of over-the-top narcissism issues and money for 5 lifetimes. A broadcaster? Living quietly in seclusion somewhere? A social media star? Showing up every now and then for photo ops and hinting at a return? Advertisements modeling clothes, his own cologne? I don't know.

And there's nothing wrong with any of those things.

What I do know is that we will be hearing about him in one circumstance or the other for quite awhile.

I'd hole up in Ibiza somewhere, have a kid or two (teach them how to swim in the ocean), eat good food, listen to good music and watch good movies with my wife in our home theatre. Maybe get fat and turn off all the phones.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Odell - 02/02/23 06:30 PM
A lot of that may very well hinge on whether the actual rift here was between He and Baker or He and the FO. If the FO is more concerned about some off hand comments from the past than getting a good WR then they're a little on the sensitive side. As far as begging and begging. Where did that come from? This would be conducting business not some melodrama.
Posted By: FATE Re: Odell - 02/02/23 07:05 PM
The "begging and beggin" was just some artistic liberty in painting the picture that we actually want him here. We don't.

And it's not just some offhand comment. It's the entire sideshow that has followed him his entire career. Fighting with kicking nets, apologizing and asking the kicking net to marry him. Taking teammates on vacation during a playoff week. Acting like a dog urinating on the field -- and blaming Trump lol. The cocaine pic was a bad look.

With the Browns: Fighting with Kitchens on the sidelines, pouting on the sidelines and quitting the game. The wardrobe b.s.; first disciplined for wearing a watch... then pushing the envelope week after week with other uniform violations. Fights on the field. Handing out cash to LSU players after the NC... then smacking a cop on the ass in the locker room and being charged with battery.

It's never-ending. He wants the spotlight firmly on him -- and pouts when it's not. I'll pass, we'll pass, this thread is a basic waste of time.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Odell - 02/02/23 07:12 PM
I think you need to qualify who "we" are. I know you'll pass, but I have no idea who this mysterious "we" is. You raised points that neither addressed any real legal or moral issues that hold any gravity. OBJ didn't abandon his entire team for a full season. It's funny how things work around here.
Posted By: FATE Re: Odell - 02/02/23 07:17 PM
"We" meaning the Browns. His non-stop drama holds no gravity with you -- that's fine.

Now we gotta play whatabouts??

Broken record bro, regardless of how much airplay you give it.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Odell - 02/02/23 07:32 PM
Denial regardless of how much air play some give it. I understand how pointing out a double standard would be seen in a negative light by some.

Odell wasn't a fast, durable WR that demands double coverage when we traded for him. Emphasis on durable.

Hell to the No. I want Watson focused on the defense and the game in general - not having to tell his has been prima dona where to line up only to run the wrong routes.

Agreed. 2 ACL tears to the same knee for a position of WR is damning, not only physically but psychologically. IMO, he will be an OK receiver but nowhere near what he was.

Well I never saw him line up in the wrong place in LA - no idea if he ran good routes or not. But in CLE I saw him not know where to line up A LOT ... and we had multiple sources claiming he ran wrong routes when he left - and we have our own - closest to an insider as you can get poster on DawgTwalkers - confirm this too. I'm very comfortable taking the word of a trusted and respected poster here on the board.
Posted By: steve0255 Re: Odell - 02/02/23 10:07 PM
OBJ had the exact same problem in NY as he had here with not knowing where to lineup and running the wrong route. Manning has talked in depth about how they had to deal with OBJ. I do find it odd that so many posters here are now screaming "NO" about getting OBJ now but when he was here, his issues were all because of another player - imagine that. OBJ is not a team player and has never been a team player. If you're comfortable with that and willing to except him showing up to give effort every 5th or 6th game - then go get him by all means. He has the talent to take over a game - you just have no idea when he'll give you that effort or when he will be missing in action in critical games.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Odell - 02/02/23 10:38 PM
As far as I am concerned it is open season on Odell.

When we got him. I was stoked. I thought we would roll with Jarvis and Odell. We did not.

It makes no difference who wants to blame whom. It did not work and he was shipped out.

I doubt he will ever return. But he is out there.

I am not into players who draw lots of attention and only occasionally produce.

There are better options IMO.

Question, why do people here think we NEED a WR??? ACooper caught just about anything thrown his way, DPJ made some really difficult catches, DBell performed well in my eyes in games he played, I just don't understand why we would need to spend CAP money on one, let alone draft one. We have FAR bigger needs that WR. Beside, with Watson now, once his first read isn't there, he's taking off running anyways.

Is this a discussion Board? You are not limited. You can start a topic.

Odell is out there. Most believe we need another receiver.

I think there are better options. Maybe some think Odell is an option?

He was a topic to go to Dallas. He went to the Rams.

You are not being forced to post if it is a waste of your time.

We need another receiver but it won’t be him. And I reserve the right to criticize a thread if I think it should be. I do have a right to my opinion. But no offence bone, I like you and will not get into a war of words with you.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Odell - 02/04/23 12:55 AM
No quarrel Lamp.

I agree we do need a receiver. There are better options than Odell.

I think we will get another. I don't know where but I think we will add someone.

I know Anthony Schwartz has been a bust. Bell and Woods were rookies. Those three are really unknowns. I really do not know how Berry and KS and the staff view those guys. I hope they are looking them with keen eyes. And that they are unafraid to admit we need more if they see that we do.
And not be caught up in we drafted them. They will develop.

Posted By: bugs Re: Odell - 02/04/23 06:20 AM
I believe Odell is a bit abstract. It takes either a very creative mind or a cerebral-minded QB to take advantage of Odell's capabilities.

I haven't seen enough of Watson to think he and Odell can be compatible.

But, from what I've witnessed, I think the two could become a very dynamic duo. Toss in Cooper and DPJ and I think you have something special.

Signing Obj comes at a cost for a WR2/WR3. Odell must want the Super Bowl Ring more than the Money. Here lies the question. I do think the potential is worth the investment.
Posted By: jaybird Re: Odell - 02/04/23 02:33 PM

Posted By: bonefish Re: Odell - 02/04/23 07:51 PM
Schwartz is still on the team. It would be shocking at this point if he actually contributes. But ya never know.

I have given some thought to the receiver question. So, we have Cooper and know his strengths. DPJ has been a draft find. He has improved every year. He is a reliable guy for catching contested throws. He has some speed but not elite speed. He is not great at creating separation. He is a complimentary piece. Njoku is a receiver as well as a TE and he will get more targets.

So, then there is Schwartz, Bell, Woods, Jaelon Darden ( 4.46 40 time) and Felton.

They really only need one of these guys to pan out and act like a third receiver.

DW and KS are working on the offense that will be run. They will look at how and where the route trees will be run. What will help DW execute at his max potential.

They may decide they have all they need. Or, they could decide we need more. I am not sure how they see the position.

Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Odell - 02/04/23 07:56 PM
I don't think this owner and FO will gamble on someone possibly panning out after the huge investment in watson. They'll want to make sure he has the weapons to succeed. They've gambled far too much to do otherwise.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Odell - 02/04/23 09:29 PM
Could be right but they have invested in draft picks as well.

Bell, Schwartz, Woods, and Felton. When you do draft a guy. You expect a return. Sometimes with these young guys the light comes on and they make a big jump.

I would not expect a draft pick from the second round on down to contribute much in their first season. Bell, Woods, Darden are known now.???

Felton and Schwartz I don't expect much.

So, free agency. I don't know with rollover money, NFL new money and restructuring contracts where they will end in available money.

IMO the first priority will go to defense specifically DT, DE and maybe safety (I don't know what they will do with JJ3).

Then it becomes how much money and who gets it.

I will say that DW will input. He damn well may push to get D'Hop? He is not UFA. So, that makes that complicated. Plus he is thirty. Spending big on receivers at that stage I would guess does not have a good track record.

There maybe some good options out there to fill the roll they have in mind.
Posted By: OldColdDawg Re: Odell - 02/05/23 02:58 AM
Is Odell even still in football? I know his ass didn't play last year. I guess his daddy's tweets cost him in the long run, and all I can say is GOOD. Between being a has-been or never-was and his family's over-inflated ego about his play, nobody wanted the Odell drama this year. Lmao. I'd say we can close the book on his career. I don't see him taking a backup or second-tier player contract, his ego wouldn't let him. He's done.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Odell - 02/05/23 12:29 PM
He took a physical for Dallas and they passed on him.

In order to play again he will have to pass a physical. I have no idea if he can pass.

He will have to prove he is healthy to play. And, that he can play at the NFL level to get paid.
