I think the best games will be tomorrow. The Titans just got Henry back and both of their top WR's are healthy. I don't see the 49er's having the fire power to keep up with Green Bays offensive scoring. But on any given day.
Posted By: Dave Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 08:19 PM
I was listening to local sports talk radio yesterday, and I was surprised how many Browns fans are rooting for Burrow and the Bengals. I don't dislike the Bengals on the same level as I do the Ravens and the Steelers, but I can't bring myself to root for them. Pulling for the Titans in this game, and the Packers later. Tomorrow, I'd like to see the Bucs and the Bills win.
Posted By: SuperBrown Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 08:24 PM
BenGals lose.
Packers WIN.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 08:29 PM
I have been living very close to Nashville now for several years. As such I've sort of made the Titans my adopted second team. They're in the playoffs and we aren't. So I feel I sort of have to pull for them. They play the old style, smash mouth football I grew up with. I'm pulling for L.A. tomorrow for a couple of reasons. First I think Brady has enough rings. And secondly I'd love to see Stafford do well after being stuck on the Lions for so long.
Posted By: Dave Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 08:54 PM
I think a Bucs-Packers conference championship game would be a dream match up of what might be the two greatest QBs I've seen, with all due respect to Joe Montana.

I would like that too. And if the winner plays the Bills in the Superbowl.

Nice start for the Bengals. 1st play an interception of Tannenhill.
Posted By: Dave Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 10:21 PM
Seems like teams are better off not even trying to return punts. You're just going to get flagged.
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 10:30 PM
The Titans scored the first touchdown of the Nashville game, they've done it a lot on the strength of throwing to their two wide receivers, and throwing downfield. (They actually gave up on the run for a whole drive, 2 drives ago.

Got their first td without using their best Offensive player yet. A. Firkser. imo.
Posted By: Psydeffect Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 10:33 PM
I think I still would've taken the point there, too early to go for that. Even if it was from the 1.
Posted By: Dave Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 10:40 PM
They can't cover Tee Higgins.

Burrow's career isn't going to last too long if he keeps taking sacks like he has so far.

Agree, he's getting hit too much.

Not sure why Tenn decided to stop blitzing.
Posted By: Dave Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 11:01 PM
Earlier in the game the Titans were sending 5 or 6, and getting there. Burrow was looking rattled. Then they stopped, and have only been rushing 4.
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 11:23 PM
It's not that they can't cover Tee Higgans, it's that Tee Higgans gets overlooked because Jamar Chase gets so much focus.

With that sack the Titans have 6 sacks on the Bengals

I think the line said the advantage was 6-1 on sacks in favor of the Titans, now the opening play of the game gave the turnover adv. to 1-0 in favor of the bengals, So that is a +4 advantage to the titans in combined, turnover and sack ratio.

The Raiders fans board, claims that if they get to +5 in combined turnover and sack ratio, that they will have the lead over 90% of the time. I read that claim a year and a half ago, and wonder it it will hold up.

After that interception/turnover, the Titans fall from a +4 to a +3 advantage in combined, turnover and sacks ratio.
6-1 on sacks
0-2 on turnovers.
A team that achieves a +5 in combined... should lead according to raiders fans.
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 11:46 PM
If you look back at the first quarter of the Bengals and Titans football game,
It was pretty (****** stupid to go for 2 in a game instead of take the one point lead an extra point would have provided!
They came away 6-6 tied instead of 7-6 leading. frown
Posted By: Psydeffect Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 11:50 PM
I hate the Bengals, but you gotta rule that incomplete.
Posted By: LexDawg Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 11:55 PM
Brown's adjustment put 6 on the board. Nice game now
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 11:56 PM
I try to look at all plays objectively, and, AnD I hold a propensity to going back to the days of traps, Now, in the early 1980's that would have been incomplete, but tons of plays would have been that today are called catches.
I truly believe that was an int. and here is why, (it's because in real time, the weight of that ball was already being brought UP, at the time of the contact with the ground, therefore the ball was under the players control, "before" the contact with the ground which is enough,
imo, for if it were up to me, I would have made the same call, a good, interception for the Titans.

Now, the Titans are +4 in combined sack and turnover ratio, and, (as a +5 team should have the lead), if the Titans, had not gone for two after the penalty on their original touchdown, they would have a one point lead right now, as they should!

But, tie game 16-16, at the moment.
Posted By: FATE Re: Divisional games thread - 01/22/22 11:59 PM
That grab was incredibly similar to DPJ's to beat the Bengals last year.
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 12:00 AM
Folks should continue to see, that as you get closer and closer to the super bowl,

Teams that can throw the ball effectively, do better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 12:03 AM
The titans are now PLUS 5, in combined! Turnover and Sack RAtio!!!!!!!
by raider board, they should have a 90% of the time, A Lead!
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 12:07 AM
I do believe the Browns' use of analytics, ... would have stopped them from getting a blitzer free, as the Titans did, when they got that last sack against the Bengals from a blitzer off the edge!!

Analytics doesn't account for desperation of the opponent.
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 12:09 AM
Bengals safety Jessie Bates has a low ceiling. He does just enough to not be good enough when it counts, and therefore I hope he stays on the bengals for a long time, so the Browns can continue to abuse him.
He's ripe for abuse in this quarter too!
Posted By: Psydeffect Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 12:11 AM
Gotta give the Bengals defense credit, they're doing a pretty good job against Henry.

At the time there was over 6:00 on the clock. Plus Foreman was running all over the Bengals D. If I’m the head coach I’m not caring who’s name is on the back of the jersey. I’m all about the win. And they lose.

A turnover on the final drive of the 4th quarter ends the Titans season in their first playoff game.
Bungles in the AFC championship.

Evan McPhearson looks like he is going to keep doing what he did for the Gators. Good for him.

As you said, it wouldn't have hurt if we drafted him. There are a few good SEC kickers in line. We need to get one of them.

Could be that the Titans, screwed themselves with the decision to not take the extra point gimme after their original touchdown in the first quarter to come away 7-6,
a 17-16 score at the end of regulation would have been a win.

49ers at the Packers.
Aaron Krodgers has always sucked! His only super bowl win was in a game where I think the steelers took a dive.
But most of all the NFC is not worth watching. It is a boring brand of football.

Our kicker would have gone up to Baker and said, “Good thing you threw a pick because I was definitely going to miss the field goal.”

Burrow is 10x the QB Mayfield is.
And it goes beyond physical tools
Burrow processes defenses faster.
His ball placement is better.
Burrows confidence level is much stronger than Bakers
And it seems like the whole Bengals organization is behind him.
Posted By: Dave Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 01:36 AM
So, you like Burrow. This is shocking, surprising news to me. Maybe there's a Bengals message board you'd prefer instead of trolling Dawgtalkers?

I like any.good QB play..Burrow Rodgers Mahomes.
But the Browns wont get to a AFC Title game till they get
A franchise QB.
Posted By: Steubenvillian Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 01:44 AM
Watching these games and these kickers constantly nailing kicks from anywhere, shows me that a good kicker is a necessity. With the parity in the league, many games come down to a kick. The Browns need to look hard for a consistent kicker. Too many times over the past couple years have we lost because we couldn't make a FG or missed an extra point. What would Baltimore's record be without Tucker? Even Boswell in Pittsburgh gave them a few wins. IMO, drafting a good kicker is not a mistake like it was in the past.

That being said, if Cincy had a good Oline, they would be unstoppable on offense. Burrow is going to be a great player for a long time. He already reminds me of Brady and Rogers with his cool poised demeanor.

Watching the game I couldn't help to think back at the many know it all posters on this board who called Tannehill a bust. He may not be a great QB, but he is a good one. Same thought comes to mind when talking about Zac Taylor. Many trashed him as being a horrible coach, just as they bash Stephanski. Look at him now.
Posted By: Iluvmyxstripper Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 01:48 AM
It seems like Burrow and Taylor are on the same wavelength.
Stefanski and Mayfield are not on The same page.

What does Baker do so well that makes you think
He is better than Burrows. ?
As a matter of fact Mayfield isnt even a top 5
AFC QB
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 02:36 AM
Yeah, I just don't like reading it.
--------------------------

On that int. Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers dirthole offense
looked like a very similar perhaps exact clone carbon copy
of Baker Mayfield and the Browns dirthole offense.

Maybe the whole offense is nothing but a dirthole with a capital *.
------------
And Baker ain't that bad, he is a better quarterback than Burrow, or Burrows, him too.
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/23/22 02:41 AM
When you start a football team and get all 16 AFC quarterbacks on your roster, then you can make sure Mayfield is no better than 6th string. thumbsup thumbsdown

I would have to say the majority of posters on this board suffer from shell shock and should reevaluate what team they root for. Last time I checked the FO doesn’t look here for advice. And THANK GOD for that. Colin cowherd is pretty spot on by saying this is the most TOXIC fanbase. As long as Baker suits up in Brown and Orange he’s going to be the QB I root for. Wishing and speculating is just burning holes in the pit of your stomach. And guess what? You’ll still be ignored by AB and CO.

Not gloating anything... just sick of people propping up the fact that we beat the Bengals twice in the regular season like it actually means something... especially when one of the games we played back ups....

Ultimately it didn't;'t mean squat because we are home watching them play in the AFC championship game...

Tannehill will only get the Titans so far before ultimately not being good enough to get the job done. Titans are likely stuck with him next year, but very well could release him going into the 2023 season. They could trade him post 6/1/22 and save a pile of money if a team is willing to take on his contract. I think Tannehill is their QB for another year. Vrabel has done a great job getting the most out of him.

I want what you’re smoking.

No chance am I giving away the Bake-Show, a 1st and only getting Rodgers in return. Rodgers has as many Super Bowl wins as Dilfer.

J/C

The Bengals were the better team and deserved to advance. As for the Packers - I had a feeling that the '9ers would win this game. I fell asleep at halftime and woke up to the commentator on the radio repeating himself "no fans have left Lambeau, they are all sitting here, stunned" Apparently I missed a great second half.

The big games are today though. Does anybody think that the Bucs and Rams game is gonna get a little nasty? Both teams have an edge to them.

I want to see TB and Buff but I feel that LA will pull it out somehow and KC v Buff will be too close to call. Awesome weekend.

Rodgers has already started. The Packers are 44.8 mil. over the cap going into next season. Yesterday Rodgers said..... “I don't want to be part of a rebuild if I'm going to keep playing, so a lot of decisions in the next couple months.”

Let the mind games begin..... again.

It really doesn't make sense for him to stick with a team if it is going in to rebuild, and for that matter, it doesn't make sense for the Packers either. Rodgers isn't a long term answer for any team at this point and the Pack can't start rebuilding with Rodgers on the payroll. The have had their widow and it is closing at this point. They need a re-start. Rodgers would be good for a team with a open window but possible problems at QB, so a 2 year deal might work for that team and the player.

I think folks will find, that as you get closer to the Super Bowl, teams that can Throw the Ball effectively, will do better.

(but it's amazing what some,(like GM's, and Team Directors) will refuse to see sometimes.
Not having a passing game, is like not having a defense. If you continue to make it 3rd priority, for 25 years, then...

If the Browns organization,

I wouldn't have minded, maybe the Browns would have made the playoffs, who knows.
( And I don't care if he didn't want to play for them, those are things you find out, before you make the trade!)

That was a pretty abysmal game to go to overtime, apparently the chiefs won it, but don't care how.
If, scoring after receiving a kickoff with less than 30 seconds to play becomes the normal,
then the league needs to make scoring a tougher feat.
Because THAT IS NOT FOOTBALL, that is not how the game was intended, that is some abhoration of what football was created to be.

Football is Football. What ever that was with that scoring like a thing that changes back and forth,
is not football!

If you've been paying attention the last few years it actually IS football. Just not in Cleveland.

There's a reason people keep harping on how terrible Baker does in 4th quarter, 2 minute drills and end of game/half situations. Because all the good QBs in the league can almost score at will in those situations. Welcome to the modern NFL - where 13 seconds is too much time for good QBs while we're still trying to figure out how to get 1st downs.

I'm not nor have I been rooting for anyone in the playoffs this year. I said I think Cincy might get it done, but damn sure would not root for them. Not only that, but I haven't even watched them. Just clips and scores is about all I've cared to look at. Great games being played, and I've completely lost my appetite for football this year. No idea why, because I usually watch as much post season as I can. Probably the disappointment of watching the Browns last year and expecting to do the same this year. Something is different for me, that much is sure.
Posted By: myka Re: Divisional games thread - 01/24/22 06:36 AM
We're close to Myka Bowl #2!

Just gotta take care of the pesky Rams and Bengals.

As much as I'd like to see Stafford get a ring and hating SF because of their spoiled fans, my ego won't let me root for anything except SF/KC because Andy Reid/Pat Mahomes and Shanahan/Grapes were my 2 "bang the table" picks for HC/QB when the Browns were looking all those years. If they both make it 2 times vs each other + KCs additional ones I'll forever feel vindicated in my football knowledge and know I only root for a loser because of family tradition and for some reason caring about it lol

That being said...
Just please don't let the Bengals steal our year!

I don't recall ever seeing four playoff games that were more exciting games.

That was something. The 49ers going to GB and winning was a huge upset.

I was rooting for the Bengals but I thought they would lose.

Unreal meltdown by the Rams then they pull it off.

The Bills Chiefs game was a classic. Unreal quarterback play. I feel Bad for the Bills. They lost the coin toss and that lost the game.

WOW exciting football.

The Browns face a serious challenge. The AFC is loaded with great young quarterbacks.

Baker really has to improve. We also better have a great pass rush or we will never get far.

Jimmy G is not an improvement on Baker and they are still in it. So, you can win with quarterbacks without winning because of them.

If I were the Browns I would try to build a dominate defense.

The Bills had the number 1 defense in the NFL and gave up 42 points to Mahomes and the Chiefs. The league has rules in place that strongly favor the offense. You need to score and have a prolific passer to win today’s NFL. You also need to be able to score quickly. Early 2000s Baltimore defenses don’t exist anymore.

Looking at the young QBs in the AFC and watching last night’s Bills/Chiefs game, it’s pretty clear the Browns aren’t in that same league yet.
Posted By: Rishuz Re: Divisional games thread - 01/24/22 01:16 PM
With no obvious solution on the horizon.

Look at what all of Allen's hard work has done. He knew his game needed work and has worked his butt off every off season to improve. He owed that to himself, the Bills organization, and the Bills fans.

Baker goes home to Austin and sleeps in his old room for the summer.

I was told I didn't know football on FB because people were talking about drafting a kicker in the 2nd or 3rd round and one dude even said to trade back up into the bottom of 1st to get one and I said no GM would draft a kicker that high in the draft.

Baker says this time he's staying away from social media while taking to social media and he means it this time!...

Awww poor Baker doesn't like Dustin Fox so he blocked him?

That's childish. That's immature. That's everything that's still wrong with Baker Mayfield wrapped in a nice little bow.

He's probably just salty from watching how real elite/franchise/playoff QBs actually executed this weekend. It's gotta hurt the pride little man.

What a loser.

Watching the Bucs vs Rams game my wife said it looked like the Rams were running away with it. I told her no lead was safe with Tom Brady on the field. It was the tale of two halves. The Bucs kept making critical mistakes the entire first half and the Rams looked like they were trying to give the game away during the second half. Von Miller hit Brady in a way that the top of his helmet just clipped the bottom of Brady's face mask and of course Brady had to cry to the refs about it. He's so used to having his ass kissed that he threw a tantrum when it didn't work this time. I was happy to see it.

In the second game we saw the elite QB's in the NFL at this point in time and what a face off it was! That second half was something of legend. And for those who say great defenses win championships, as much as I've mirrored that remark, I'm thinking those days may be gone. The Bills have a fine defense.

These were the greatest four divisional games I've ever seen as an entire group of games. They were all decided late and they were all anyone's games at the end. As a fan of the game I couldn't have asked for anything more.

While I think Burrows is a fine QB, I think it's still too early for him to keep up with the likes of Mahomes. If that Buffalo defense couldn't stop Mahomes, I don't think Cinci's can. The Rams 49'ers game is a little harder for me to try and predict. Every time I think the 49'ers can't match up with their opponents, somehow Shanahan comes up with a way to counter them.

On to next week!

You mean Kelce is running the wrong routes and that's why Mahomes can never find him when he's open?

No... THEY DECIDED.. meaning Mahomes was aware he was going to deviate from his route... he didn't just run off and do it.

I've never seen a group of people so hellbent on trying to blame a WR for doing everything he can because he's trying to get open. I find it amazing.

I've never seen someone rush out to defend anybody who says anything that could be used against Baker the way you do... the media, other coaches, other players, some podcast guy... they don't even have to be talking about Baker for you to make it about Baker... If anybody says anything critical of Stefanski, you make it about Baker. If anybody says anything critical of Berry, you make it about Baker. If anybody says anything positive about Baker, you make it negative about Baker. If anybody posts a positive stat about Baker, you find a negative stat about Baker. If anybody says anything (good or bad) about another QB in the NFL, you make it about Baker. If anybody says anything critical of our WRs, TEs, or OL, you make it about Baker.... then, periodically, you post that you hope he succeeds. catfight

While in other posts you blast people for having an agenda and only looking for information that supports their own argument.

Being the flip side of a bad coin isn't a good defense.
Posted By: oobernoober Re: Divisional games thread - 01/24/22 07:04 PM
Also, pointing out things beyond "Baker = bad" isn't a defense of Baker.

Speaking for myself, I've just mostly spent three years trying to figure out why.

Why, If OBJ is such a great WR, has he never finished higher that 127th in the league in converting targets into catches? Care to explain that? Baker's fault? Eli's fault? Or do the coaches just not know how to use him?

I'll go back to what I said from the beginning. OBJ is not and will never again be worthy of the #1 WR tag, he requires waaay too many targets to put up the numbers. That's why he didn't work out here.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Divisional games thread - 01/24/22 07:42 PM
You do realize that long passes have a lower completion rate than short passes, right?

Try comparing his catch rate to WR's whose average reception are over 13.5 yards per reception.

Are you saying that in his first 8 games with the Rams that 27 catches on 48 targets is 127th or below?

One thing I'll give you, with all of the injuries he's sustained over the course of his career so far he will most likely not be the same WR he was when he was catching for 1300+ and 1400+ yards per season.

And BTW- nowhere have I claimed OBJ at this point in his career is a "great WR". He's better than anything we had and we're not "better" without him. Film of our last nine games proves that. Film of his last nine games proves that too.

I had to work on Sunday, so I just watched Sunday's games today. Great football! The Bills/KC game was fantastic. That game may very well end up being even better than the Super Bowl, but we shall see about that.

I always thought that a receiver should break his route and come back to the QB when he was in trouble. I never see ours do that, except Higgins sometimes. As for OBJ, when he ran a different route, it was never looking back at the QB. That being said, I really think Baker just doesn't, or can't see receivers down field. I truly believe he expects them to be in a certain place. The receiver fighting to get open is a good thing, a QB who can't adjust to a different route is a shortcoming.

Can we all agree that these "great" games were made possible by horible defenses and atrocious decisions by head coaches....dont kick the ball out of the end zone bills and you win.

Could not agree more.

Kicking in the field of play takes the ball out of Mahomes hands for one of the two plays he had left. 90% of the time the possession starts inside the 25, hell, 50% of the time it ends up being inside the 15 because of the inevitable illegal block penalty. Dumbest thing I've seen in a while, I was stunned.

That was an amazing game.... ticked at Buffalo defense late... they played not to lose with 13 seconds left.... Allen is amazing.... Mahommes is amazing....

Anyone want to talk about the KC receiver who stepped out of bounds before his catch and they still gave it to him. Official was standing right there by the sideline and saw it and no call. That would have changed the game. It was an obvious no catch.

I don't recall exactly. It was on the right side of the feild when kc was going down the field it might have been the 1st pass in the 13 seconds
Posted By: BADdog Re: Divisional games thread - 01/25/22 05:28 AM
No it wasn't in the 13 seconds maybe it was the drive before that
Posted By: BADdog Re: Divisional games thread - 01/25/22 01:45 PM
It was at 1:54 in the 4th Quarter. Maybe not a game changer, it was on a first down play. But yes a bad no call they show a replay at 1:39

What we would give as Browns fans to be in a playoff game like that and actually win. We haven't since the Jets playoff game in January 1987.

And what if we played in a game like that and lost? Would we want to fire the coaches and get rid of the entire D and QB?

The thought always makes me feel a little better since I was there in '87. It's a pleasant two seconds before the sadness kicks in again.

Exactly Fate. For every happy thought we have of our Browns we have 5 bad ones. Sad.

That is so a fan mentality to. Ignoring that he put them in the lead 2x within the last 2 mins, yet the defense failed to stop KC either time AND in OT.
