Starting this to get people to give their prediction on who we will take. This is not a who we think we should take thread.
Let's try to keep it to one pick per poster, because anymore than that and it is no longer a prediction.
You can predict a trade up or down but still include who you will be drafting and try to guess who we would trade with.
Feel free to try to justify your guess.

My prediction is:

We stay at #44 and select Nik Bonitto Edge Rusher Oklahoma

We have 3 needs that we have to address before the season starts, either in free agency, the draft, or both. That would be Wr, Edge Rusher, DT. We are set everywhere else except depth and special teams, which won't be addressed in the 2nd round.

I think there are 8 wr's that are taken before our pick leaving a dearth of 2nd round talent available at wr. The player we would get with one of our 3rd round picks won't have a significantly different level of talent. So we wait.

At DT, I think the 2 Georgia DT's will be long gone. Of the ones to fall I don't think any have the talent to overcome our front office's lack of respect for the position. I don't don't think we value the DT position. So unless one of the Georgia guys happen to fall (which they won't) then we will not be taking a DT at #44.

Bonitto is a talented player with lots of energy and is fast. We value speed. Additionally PFF has him with one of the highest rates of beating blockers when rushing and we seem to have an evaluation system similar to PFF's. The downside to Bonitto is that he is unlikely a day 1 starter. He just isn't big enough to hold up against the run. He would fit best as a 3-4 rush OLB. For us, he will be a "3rd down"rush package pass rush specialist. But it seems as if teams are in that defense 60% of the time now. He will be very valuable on passing downs and incredibly impactful in the 4th quarter when we are trying to protect a lead. Also, having him on the field against Lamar will really be helpful as well.

Give me your prediction.

What I want versus what I believe we will do.

I want George Pickens.

I believe the pick will be Logan Hall. I would be good with that as well.
Posted By: mgh888 Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/24/22 06:43 PM
At #44 - PERRION WINFREY - Interior DL - Oklahoma.

I would like a Sky Moore or Pickens ... but I think there is going to be a run on WR.

If we trade up I think it will be for a WR. Maybe one of those two or someone like Burks who may drop.
Posted By: guard dawg Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/24/22 07:17 PM
The interior DL has been addressed with band-aids for several drafts. Perrion Winfrey should be one of two interior selections made in this draft. We have a #1 receiver. Depth at that position can be found later in the draft. So I hope AB works some trade-down magic so that we select somewhere in that pick 118 - 202 hole.
Posted By: mgh888 Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/24/22 07:22 PM
I've seen Winfrey ranked in the low 40s and as a 2nd round pick. I like his flexibility to play multiple positions on the OL and I'm relying on Berry getting Clowney back for 2 years. Some of the projected edge rushers around this part of the draft seem a little light in the pants or are mostly potential. I think we are in a good slot.

You say Winfrey should be the pick. Is that who you are predicting we actually will take?
Posted By: guard dawg Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/24/22 07:44 PM
yes, that's my pick.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/24/22 11:58 PM
Strange draft. So many teams with two picks in the first round

Giants - 5th, 7th
Texans - 3rd, 13th
Jets - 4th, 10th
KC - 29th, 30th
GB - 22nd, 28th
NO - 16th, 19th
Lions - 2nd, 32
Eagles - 15th, 18th

Those teams could go in many directions. Hard to predict.

Clearly, are needs are receiver and a defensive line. That may play in our favor.

However, I prefer value. If by chance a high ranked OT is there at 44. Sure take him. Conklin will be a FA after this season. We were hurt at tackle depth last year.

It is my belief that both Pickens and Skyy Moore will be very good pros. I would love to get either guy.

Logan Hall is an interesting guy. He is an althetic big man that I could see with a bright future.

Perrion Winfrey put on a show at he Senior Bowl week. Nobody could handle him. Disruptive interior player with high upside.

I would to get one really good impact guy for this year.

I predict we take a younger than average players with a high raw athletic score at a premium position (receiver, edge, or corner).

DE Drake Jackson if I only get one swing of the bat on who we will select @44.
Posted By: OrangeCrush Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/25/22 01:21 PM
Gun to my head, I'd say Drake Jackson, as I'm the most confident that he will be there at #44 out of the other options, and he checks all AB's boxes.

If they make it to pick #44, I think Skyy Moore, George Pickens, and Travis Jones would be the pick over Drake, in that order of preference.

It's just so hard to know who will be available at pick #44. Who thought JOK would fall like he did last year?
Posted By: eotab Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/25/22 01:25 PM
I predict at # 44 we take TE Trey McBride. We let Hooper go and I still believe Ski will utilize a 2 TE scheme for the most part. Size for blocking and Hands for catching with some speed is what the doctor ordered.
Posted By: mgh888 Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/25/22 01:45 PM
You could well be right there. I think it was Bone talking about as a fan base we are all fixated on DL and WR while in reality BPA and best value may end up being a different position. Bryant flashed as a rookie but really didn't seem to progress. TE is definitely in play. I think a MLB may be in play with one of the first 3 picks we have also.

https://brownswire.usatoday.com/2022/04/25/nfl-draft-rumor-george-karlaftis-browns-jok/

This article points out that Karlaftis may fall out the first round. That could happen.

Unlike JOK it is not about the tape. On tape JOK was the best linebacker in the country. He won the Butkus Award over Parsons.

It was easy to see he was a special player.

Karlaftis does not show the burst of a high rank pass rusher. He does not display unique talent.

What he shows on tape is overall good skill backed by consistent effort. He plays his butt off. He is a overachiever.

He is good at both the run and pass. He gives solid overall work and would be an asset. However, I do not see a guy who will rack up big sack numbers. And there will be matchups where he gets handled.

He would be a good value pick if he got to 44 though.

Arnold Ebiketie DE Penn State
Posted By: Jester Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/25/22 09:03 PM
Ebiketie is high on my want list of guys who could potentially fall to #44
1st would be his teammate Johan Doctson Wr
Ebiketie would be 2nd.

There is another thread discussing draft pick age and how Berry tends to draft younger.
Ebiketie is already 23.
Between that and the high possibility that he will already be gone is why I didn't predict him.
Posted By: OrangeCrush Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/25/22 09:13 PM
Yeah, Ebiketie is too old.

I say this as I'm in my mid 30's, haha.

If Karlaftis falls to the the 2nd round, I think AB trades up to get him.

PFF has him at 10 on their big board - the analytics love him. Newsome and JOK were both top 20 on the PFF big board last year. He got so much attention last year being the only threat on Purdue's defense, but he still was very productive.

I think you are underselling Karlaftis's athleticism, especially at his weight. He's got a nice first step off the line, and he uses his hands so well. I guess maybe he lacks upside? I would have been fine picking him at #13 though, so 2nd round is a no-brainer.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/25/22 10:06 PM
That is why I posted the article.

He looks like a good player. His combine was solid. But he does not have that bend and speed that top guys have.

I doubt he would fall to the second because pass rushers are coveted. But sometimes the draft can fall weird.

He might fall.

You know what would be nice.
If the Browns somehow made a trade for either Deebo Samuel (49ers) or Kadarius Toney (Ny Giants) and that freed up pick #44 for the possibly still on the board TE Trey McBride,

Then the offense... Think about it! thumbsup
Posted By: Versatile Dog Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/25/22 11:53 PM
No offense to anyone and we are all sharing our opinions, but I don't like Karlaftis at all. I have seen him get thrown around like a rag doll when facing decent to good OTs. I think he will get manhandled in the NFL. But again, that is just my opinion as an amateur.

Based on age and Berry's history in rounds 1-3, I'd say there is slim to no chance of Berry drafting Ebiketie, Jermaine Johnson, Boye Mafe (assuming all were available), and possibly Bonitto as well as Paschal.

Only 3rd round pick Jordan Elliott was over the age of 22.

It's going to be the edge rusher from Houston.

Travis Jones DT UCONN
Posted By: FL_Dawg Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/26/22 03:33 AM
AB truly is an outlier in the age category ... but this years class is deep with prospects that went back to school because their product/tape was adversely effected by the pandemic, with that said I can't see us drafting someone older than 22 (preferentially younger) years old with the 44th selection.
Posted By: Ballpeen Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/26/22 01:28 PM
We are pretty fixed on #44. I think trading back out of 44 is a real possibility.

Watson is our "get" for this year. I think we might want to add a 2nd rounder next year to supplement the draft giving us a better chance of adding a few good players since we won't have a first, or a "get" player like Watson. I could see trading to the end of round 2 or near the top of round 3 to get another 2nd for next year.

To me, next years draft is the draft where lacking a 1st rounder could hurt us the most, so picking up a 2nd might be critical. If we trade to the top of the 3rd this year, it will be to a losing type team, so even with improvement we will probably still get a mid 2nd rounder. Couple that with our 2nd rounder which should be near the end of the 2nd, that will give us the chance to properly stock the team with several good players.

As for the last year with no 1st rounder, I am not all that worried about that. It's just 1 year at that point. Any team can deal with that.

Next years draft is the draft which could hurt us if we don't gain a pick or two.
Posted By: BpG Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/26/22 02:42 PM
Absolutely cannot get down with Pickens. I don't care what the circumstance, I cannot get down with a guy in round 2 that had 5 receptions last year......absolutely not.

Ran 4.73 at his pro day?????

5 catches last season.

Zero chance he is a first round pick. I mean I hope he is so that someone drops to us but no, can't see it.

So sorry you are right I was looking at this....

https://www.nfldraftbuzz.com/Player/stats/George-Pickens-WR-Georgia

It has 2019 college combine....my fault on the 40, I was mistaken.

Either way, his 10 yard split and absolute baby hands are not great either. Combine that with 5 catches, this is all hype.

Measurable Measurement %tile
Height 6' 3¼" 86
Weight 195 lbs 34
Wingspan 77⅜" 59
Arm Length 32⅜" 61
Hand Size 8¾" 9
10 Yard Split 1.59s 36
40 Yard Dash 4.47s 63
Posted By: bonefish Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/26/22 05:52 PM
Look at the link with Pickens Relative Athletic Score.

His 10 yard split classified as "great"

Career drop rates

George Pickens: 2.1%
Skyy Moore: 3.3%

Chris Olave: 4.7%
Jahan Dotson: 5.1%
Drake London: 5.7

Alec Pierce: 6.4%
Garrett Wilson: 6.8%
Justyn Ross: 7.1%
Treylon Burks: 7.4%
Jameson Williams: 7.7%
Jalen Tolbert: 8.4%

Christian Watson: 12.7%

He only played in 4 games last year because he tore his ACL in the Spring. If he had played a full season. He would be a top 15 pick.

Just watch his tape.
Posted By: BpG Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/26/22 05:58 PM
Sure I'll compare his tape of all 5 catches to any of these guys tapes.

His 10 yard split was 36th percentile amongst recievers.

His hand size is 9th percentile......

his 40 is 63rd

None of this says 1st round pick. Look maybe you're right and he will fully recover from his ACL, but that is a risk I take in the 3rd or 4th round.

Well this is a "predict who the Browns will take at #44" thread
Posted By: Versatile Dog Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/27/22 12:34 AM
David Ojabo. I'm going to start a thread about him tomorrow. bonefish and I had a brief conversation about Jameson Williams and his injury. It got me to thinking. I think Ojabo fits in nicely w/the type of guy our FO likes. His ceiling is unlimited.
Posted By: Milk Man Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/27/22 01:26 AM
Ojabo could absolutely be the pick. Lots of raw talent. Especially, if the Browns perceive this year to be a "make the playoffs, make some noise and SB run in 2023" with a potential Watson suspension this season. It buy them a year with Ojabo, especially if the bring back Clowney on a 1-2 year deal.

Ojabo meet the age and RAS profile. I still think Drake Jackson is a good possibility at #44.

Posted By: PrplPplEater Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/27/22 03:27 PM
looking at that, his size is more in line with a stand-up 3-4 OLB than a knuckle in the dirt 4-3 DE... smaller side and he skipped the tests that could show he has strength for quick engagement at the line. He's fast-twitch, for sure, and kinda explosive, but I'm betting he gets swallowed by OLine at this level if he has to line up at the LoS
Posted By: bonefish Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/27/22 04:02 PM
That is pretty much what I said in the thread by his name.

RAS is a good measurement of athletic ability. However, it does not indicate how a guy plays.

I don't see him as 4-3 DE. In addition he started playing football late in life. He lacks alternative moves besides his speed rush.

I saw plays where the tackle got his hands on him and swallowed him up. He is light in the seat and does not have any pure bull rush moves.

In the right scheme he would be good. He is fast and quick. As you stated I see him more as OLB in a 3-4.

Posted By: bonefish Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/28/22 04:50 PM
I have to change mine.

IMO we have some agreement with Clowney. Immediate impact means receiver.

Skyy Moore because I question if some of the others are there. I like him a lot and think he is a good fit.

Posted By: mgh888 Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/28/22 05:05 PM
I agree that I think we have an agreement with Clowney. Anything can happen but I believe that's a very strong (85%) likelihood. I think Pickens will be gone. I think Interior DL might be the play as I think some premium talent will drop - and I agree with someone (EO?) that posted about the viability of a non-WR non-DL pick.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/28/22 05:22 PM
Because IMO we have an agreement with Clowney. That tells me receiver is the play.

The reason is we signed Winovich. We also have Weaver. So, I think we are good at DE.

I also believe Berry has plans for interior DL. That could be a vet like Hicks or others and we may draft one in the third.

I believe Berry wants an immediate impact and that means receiver. This draft is deep at that position and there will be a good receiver where we pick or close.

Skyy Moore makes sense. He should be there and IMO he is a good fit. There are others that could be there that I will be happy with.

#44 pick receiver.
Posted By: Jester Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/28/22 05:23 PM
My top hope is for Jahan Dotson to fall to us. I would even trade up for him. But going along with the non wr/non Dline pick, it sounds as if Nakobe Dean could fall to us. If he did, and we took him, we would have to have to design a defense to take advantage of the speed of our linebacker while minimizing the lack of size. But if we did, I think the defense could be transformative in the same way the Golden State Warriors were when they went to their 3-ball offense.

If I have to stay put at 44 for the predictions, then I take Travis Jones.

He was hurt most of last year. Had a big catch in the National Championship game. Pickens is a big play WR. Watson and Pickens could be a great combination.

If the Browns get him at 44 it could be a steal.
Posted By: FATE Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/28/22 06:46 PM
I won't try to predict who we'll draft at #44.

Accelerating the plan by sacrificing so much capital for Watson shows that Haslam is going all in on a two year plan.

I think WR is still a strong area of need. I think the way we have tiered "jump off the page" athletics means there are four, possibly five WRs that we consider "top tier".

If two of those are still available in the 20s, we won't hesitate to be bold and aggressive towards drafting one of them.

I'll go ahead and predict that we don't draft at #44.

You think we’ll trade up?

I think there is a good chance, depending on the criteria I explained.

I guess trading up in the second round is super unlikely (we did it last year). Trading in the 20s, as you suggested, seems like a long shot.

I'm not sure what you mean by long shot. Irrational? Maybe. Depends on assets required.

My Two Final Drafts One With A Trade Into Round 1 and One Without Any Trades

First I Traded Our 2nd (44) Our 1st 3rd (78) Our 4th (118) and Our 2nd 7th (246)

Round 1 Pick 27 (T.B.): Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas (A)
Round 3 Pick 35 (COMP): John Ridgeway, DT, Arkansas (A-)
Round 6 Pick 23: Nolan Smith, DE/OLB, Georgia (A+)
Round 7 Pick 2: Jake Ferguson, TE, Wisconsin (A+)

Second and final Draft No Trades:

Round 2 Pick 12: Devonte Wyatt, DT, Georgia (A-)
Round 3 Pick 14: Christian Watson, WR, North Dakota State (A+)
Round 3 Pick 35 (COMP): Amare Barno, DE/OLB, Virginia Tech (A+)
Round 4 Pick 13: Nik Bonitto, DE/OLB, Oklahoma (A+)
Round 6 Pick 23: Kellen Diesch, OT, Arizona State (A+)
Round 7 Pick 2: Damarion Williams, CB, Houston (A+)
Round 7 Pick 25: Lucas Krull, TE, Pittsburgh (A+)

And THIS^ type of scenario is exactly what I see as a probable approach.

If those assets are too heavy (I'd kick that 4th to 2023), or the opportunity doesn't present itself... no go.

If no-go, I see the second scenario playing out. Draft your DE or DT and choose your WR next... from a large pool of "second tier" receivers.

Logan Hall

Draft went well for the Browns.

We have lots of options starting round two. Wideouts, pass rushers, DT, OT.

Plenty of good players.
Posted By: Dawgs4Life Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/29/22 12:49 PM
I think we can definitely get an impact guy here at 44. I’m intrigued by pairing Dean with JOK, though I understand our FO’s hesitation to put so much draft capital into the LB spot
Posted By: eotab Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/29/22 02:41 PM
I apologize for the garlic breath cause nobody wishes to discuss my picks... rofl

Rather than being redundant about Sam Williams, Travis Jones, Perrion Winfrey, Trey McBride all my wannabe picks at #44.

Another guy that just would not surprise me for us to take. OT Bernard Rainmann. Kid has the "BIGGEST" upside to him and our contract with Conklin runs out soon. He could become special.

Just putting that out there. and now "BOO"
Posted By: bonefish Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/29/22 02:59 PM
The only player you listed that I have wtched is Winfrey.

Really like him. In fact I just like players who play like him. He is a brawler and baller.

He is a all out effort guy.

However, because of the way the first round played out. I really believe it wide receiver or pass rusher.

Ebiketie has real potential as a pass rusher. Powerful guy who can bend. I would be shocked if he lasts to 44.

If Berry wants him bad. Probably have to trade up.

Some really good receivers left. Maybe one still there in the third.

I would love to come away with Pickens or Moore and come back and land Perrion Winfrey. I would be a happy guy.

We might try to move back a couple spots to get another mid-round pick.
Posted By: eotab Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/29/22 03:13 PM
I think Winfrey is a very high possibility for Berry to take cause not only is he "GOOD" but he is YOUNG which everyone has been putting up as a common denominator of Berry's picks.

You want young and good enough to provide impact in 2022 that would be Winfrey!

It will be interesting to see if Berry goes: WR, DE, or DT with #44.

All positions of need for the Browns, but how does that intersect with BPA at this point in the draft?

Also, does anyone give any weight to players who visited the Browns leading up to the draft. If so, wonder if Christian Watson would be the pick based on that.

I personally like any of the following at #44: A. Ebiketie, L. Hall, T. Jones, P. Winfrey, D. Jackson, S. Moore, and G. Pickens.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/29/22 04:02 PM
A lot can change as far as talent at position is concerned from #33 to #44. But if I'm looking at the draft right now going into round 2, I'm looking at DT as having the best talent pool left on the board.

As of this moment, looking at who I think will be selected and who I think will be remaining on the board, I would venture to guess that Travis Jones DT will be Berry's selection. I think we may see two more WR's taken as well as a couple of edge rushers before Berry picks at #44. At that juncture I believe that Jones will be the BPA at a position of need that fits the mold that Berry looks for.

During Senior Bowl week they ran 5 on 5 drills with the lines.

I did not see anyone have a good rep against Winfrey. Then when the game was played. He was the player of the game.

PFF is a good source for some things. But not all things. Attitude is not a stat. So, PFF is not all that high on Winfrey.

Winfrey attacks his guy. He likes it. He comes at you hard. He has long arms. His 10 yard split is very good.

I doubt Berry will take him at 44. If he is there in the third maybe then.
Posted By: Jester Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/29/22 06:03 PM
I talked about McBride after you posted that. I was only mildly offended by your breath ooo

I watched some Sam Williams and wasn't overly impressed.
Seems like a solid guy. Didn't see anything special.
Those guys tend to go rounds 3-5

Read about Raimann for the 1st time last night. Sounds like an interesting player but I haven't seen any video of his play.
I do like the idea of having a quality backup LT.
Prior to his restructure, I thought this would be Conklin's last year. - Now, who knows
Bringing in a LT with plans on moving Wills over the RT when Conklin is gone (Next year or the year after)
Also we don't know when Conklin will be back from his injury.

Heard something interesting. Winfrey was the MVP of Senior Bowl week and the game.
Last defensive tackle to do that?
Aaron Donald

Winfrey could be good but not that good.

At OK they played him out of position as a 0/1 technique.

That is not what he is. So, he can develop. He plays hardball. He could become over time a solid NFL starter.
Posted By: Dave Re: Pick #44 prediction - 04/29/22 08:51 PM
Seems like the challenge is using picks 44, 81, and 98 to fill needs at WR, DE, and DT, and prioritizing those picks. It would be nice knowing if Clowney and Landry were returning, so they could zero in on the best IDL (Logan Hall?) at 44.

Obviously, that 4th rounder (#123) has to be reserved for P, Matt Arraiza.

Indeed. I don't think we have a 5th rounder. I think we would like to have a pick in that round.

What is disappointing is that of all the players predicted, 2 are taken before our pick and we don't take any of them.

Super Honorable Mention will go out if our 1st player drafted is someone's prediction.
