^This^

It's also why you and I have taken turns talking each other off the ledge over the past couple regime changes rofl

For what it's worth, I'm not ready to buy into this new regime yet. It's not because I think they're incompetent, or that I was in love with the previous bunch (or anything like that).

It's because I don't trust them to be around in 2018.

Constant change and turnover is about all we seem to know. As such, losing is the only other thing that we know as well.

The fact is Mingo just isn't very good no matter what scheme
Is in.
He has 4 sacks in the last 43 games. I cannot recall
A game where he flat out shown his skill set to be a Top 15 pick.
He can't shed blocks. He can't even put heat on the QB
to force him to throw before he gets his feet set
or even to force the QB into the arms of a another pass
Rusher.
You rarely hear his name called other than being washed out of a
Play.

Now you might see a wee bit of why I've been calling for consistency for several years now. I've been past the point of caring at all who is coach... just stop ripping everything apart every two seasons. You can't get anywhere doing that.

Browns is the Browns

... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Not exercising the 5th year option for Mingo was a no-brainer. Way too much guaranteed money for a guy who is yet to perform.

This FO would have deservedly been blasted had they exercised the 5th year option.

Onto the actual dollar figures involved:

The option for 2017 would’ve been worth $11.9 million and been guaranteed for injury.

This would have made him he second highest paid player on the team for year 2017, behind only Joe Haden. Correct me if I am wrong.

j/c.

Im not so certain he will even be on the roster this year.

The media keeps talking about Kruger possibly on his way out of town ... Siteing his large contract as the possible deal breaker. IMO Kruger would/should stay over Mingo. He was more productive under DC Ray Horton and he is a great mentor for our new arrivals. Orchard stated how Kruger took him under his wing last season.

I'm not so blide that I don't see that we're in the midst of a major youth movement, but we still need some veteran leadership and we would be wise to keep those who are good leaders like Kruger.

So to me if it comes down to keeping one of the above.

I would keep Kruger over Mingo, even if neither are part of the long term plan.
IMO ... that would be whats in the best interest of the team. $ aside.

It would also have made him the 3rd highest paid OLB in the NFL.

Because last year wasn't time to play? It's way past time to play and damned near time to go.... I could see them cutting him during camp if he isn't 100% committed to football.

I must have missed the reports that Mingo was not committed to football. Would you care to share?

He sure hasn't played like it's important to him. He hasn't progressed one bit. He's regressed. Some of that might be coaching, but if he was a first in last out guy I have to think he'd be a lot further along. Either that or he just doesn't have what it takes....I'd LOVE it if he finally got it together. He was supposed to be our 15 sacks a year guy. No one wants that more than me. So far though he has been a huge bust. That's why the team didn't pick up his option. This coming camp is his last chance.

I don't question Mingo's effort, at all actually. I question just whether he can play at this level given his strength and body frame.

20lbs added, let's see what he can do and in addition, he has Ray Horton who is already familiar with him, and is light-years a better coordinator than that buffoon known as Jimmy O'Neil.

Worth about 10% of that figure perhaps. Scary notion as far as pay ranking him third, though that is no indicator of level of play. I think he might be a camp casualty.
