Friends, my wife and I had been trying to get pregnant for over a year and were even seeing a fertility specialist for a few months. After those few months, success was achieved. We had our first ultrasound last week and got to hear and see the heartbeat. It was awesome. Not only did we see and hear one heartbeat, but we heard and saw a second because we're having TWINS! We're ecstatic, couldn't be happier.
I was going to stop trying when I reached 35, next year. I've always wanted multiple children, so this was probably our only shot. Having twins was a 2% chance, incredible. There is still a slight chance of one of them being absorbed with the vanishing twin syndrome, but the fertility specialist said both heartbeats and sacs were healthy enough to not really have to worry about that. Life is about to change drastically for Lemmys_Wart, and I can't wait. The due date is estimated for September, but twin pregnancies are 34-38 weeks on average. So, there is a month's variation in play. This is good stuff, indeed. :-)

Every time my wife told me someone was on the way we were both overwhelmed with this sense of 'I can't wait to meet you!' Congrats man!

First of all, congratulations!!
Secondly, do you or your wife have siblings? I have a blast being an uncle to my 11 year old (now 11) nephews. Twice as much trouble to get into.
I also have a cousin with twins, now 4 years old - same story.
I can't go to a ball game without at least 1 of the sets of twins coming to sit with me.
Twins are great! They might be a bit more work in the younger ages - 0-2 or 3, but consider yourself blessed!

Fantastic news ! Such a powerful thing to know you are going to be a Father . Enjoy every second that you can . I envy the experiences you are about to have from this point on and there will be many . May not seem fun when you are up all night and then have to go to work only to repeat that process again and again but you'll look back and smile I promise you .

Congratulations. We definitely have some parallels here. My wife and I tried for well over a year. We ultimately ended up getting pregnant after three miscarriages, two with the fertility doctor. I was 38 when we finally had our twin girls, who are now almost 2.5 years old. I suspect that if twins are your first ones, then you don't have a baseline to compare raising one vs. raising two. Raising two just becomes the norm.
I can absolutely say my daughters are the light of my life. I love them in ways I never imagined before having them. There is nothing like the unconditional love a parent has for their children. The first time you see them you truly realize what it means to love someone more than yourself.
