No kidding. If you watch the vid, you can see 2 kids get off the bus..............and when the bus was hit, those kids ran.

There were 2 kids on the bus yet, and the driver - used to be my daughter's bus driver.

No life threatening injuries, but reports say 2 people taken to the hospital. Who those 2 are/were, I don't know. I do know what the semi looked like though. My guess is that driver was one taken to the hospital.

Yeah, I did watch the video. That could have been horrific. That bus could have easily rolled over onto the two kids and goodness..........that truck was barreling.

Do you know if there was an incline hill right before where the video picked up because I'm thinking how in the hell did the truck driver not see the bus?

No hill. No incline. Trust me, I know that area, as it's only 1.5 miles from me. Straight road, straight line, no hills.

How the truck driver didn't see? I have no idea. Nor are their reports at this time.

Just glad for several things: no one was hurt severely. A car wasn't coming from the other side, and no deaths.

Haven't heard about the truck driver yet. Saw pictures. But, reports so far are no one was seriously hurt. They even cancelled the helicopter. Thankfully. From the pic's I saw? Well, pretty much the cab of the semi wasn't even on the semi anymore.

It's hard to tell from that vid what happened to the truck. He didn't slow down one bit, he had to have been wasted or dozed off at the wheel or something.

Very scary. Makes me wonder if the truck driver had a medical occurrence such as a heart attack or diabetic issue.

I remember as a kid, maybe 9 years old, an elderly lady ran into the back of my brothers car while he was parked in the street in front of our house. He was laying down in the front seat vacuuming the carpet. The lady blacked out telling the police she thought the accident was 3 blocks north so she had no idea where she was. Fortunately it was only a 25 mph street.

Sometimes after driving long distance we can go into kind of a trance

But I see a lot of idiots looking at phones too

What road was this Arch? Do you know which company

SCHOOL BUS STRUCK

VIDEO: Archbold school bus hit by truck as two children are exiting vehicle

https://www.crescent-news.com/on_the_wir...b6e78b1a48.html

By JENNY DERRINGER @cnjderringer jderringer@crescent-news.com Mar 28, 2019 Updated 1 hr ago

RIDGEVILLE CORNERS — Two motorists and four students escaped serious injury Wednesday afternoon when a stopped school bus was struck by a semi dump truck just west of here.

According to the Henry County Sheriff's Office, at 4:06 p.m., an eastbound Archbold Area Schools bus driven by JoAnn Cousino, 57, Archbold, was stopped and had just dropped off two students in front of Triple 6 Outdoor, 24703 U.S. 6. Seconds later, an eastbound semi dump truck driven by Kelly Braden, 48, Monroe, Mich., failed to stop in time, striking the left rear corner of the bus.

Braden's truck came to rest off the left side of the roadway, while the bus was shoved forward, coming to rest off the right side of the highway. Damage was heavy to the vehicles.

The two remaining students still on the bus were uninjured in the crash.

The drivers were taken by Ridgeville Township and Archbold EMS to Fulton County Health Center, Wauseon, where condition updates were unavailable.

The accident remains under investigation. U.S. 6 was closed to motorists while the scene was cleared.

In this day and age, I start with the distracted driver scenario.

It looks like he tried to swerve around the bus at the last second, indicating even more so he may have been distracted (phone).

It really ticks me off when I get stuck behind someone swerving back and forth, speeding up and slowing down, all because they are looking at their phone instead of driving, then as you get next to them, you see they have kids in the car and I just shake my head.
In a few years they will be trying to tell their kids not to text and drive, but they learned it's ok from them.

I'm not going to get into speculation at this point.

However, it IS a straight road. No curves. It IS a state route (highway). 2 lane, but a darn wide 2 lane highway.

I know the bus driver, personally. She was actually my daughter's driver when my daughter rode the bus. She drove/drives bus for many school team activities.

Let's just say it wasn't her first day on the job, or her first year, etc.

We know WHAT happened, we just don't know WHY at this point. Perhaps we won't going forward, either.

Bottom line, the latest is the bus driver and the truck driver were taken to the hospital and I don't know of any updates other than 'non life threatening' at this time.

I can not imagine what could've been had it happened a few seconds earlier...........

Here's something odd/weird. The video? The people run a business out of their house, as well as farm.

The camera is a security camera, which is motion activated. Living on a state route, the sensitivity of the camera is set so as to not come on every time a vehicle goes by on the road. Just if someone pulls into their drive....Yet, for some reason, be it a dog, cat, God, whatever, the camera was going at that point in time.

Also newsworthy, the parents of the kids that got off the bus and ran? They are telling people to not judge the truck driver. Of course, no one was hurt, so it's easier to say that than if someone had been hurt, or killed.

It was probably the kids that tripped the camera, they all have some pre-roll that is recorded prior to the trigger event, that way you can see what led to the event being recorded.

Most security cameras are running and recording all the time, but motion triggers "markers" on the recording, so that when reviewing your footage you narrow down your searches.

There are options to not recorded except when motion is detected, but most people go with the the full record and mark option.
