Infowars host Alex Jones accused of threatening Sandy Hook lawyers after child porn is found in his electronic files, court document says

KEY POINTS

[list]
[*]1. Electronic material that Infowars host Alex Jones turned over to the families of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims who are suing him contained images of child pornography, according to a court filing Monday.

[*]2. The filing also accuses Jones of threatening Christopher Mattei, a lawyer for the families, and his law firm, during an online broadcast of “The Alex Jones Show” on Friday in which he angrily claimed that unnamed people were “trying to set me up with child porn.”

[*]3. The suit claims that Jones and others have “persistently perpetuated a monstrous, unspeakable lie: that the Sandy Hook shooting was staged and that the families who lost loved ones that day are actors who faked their relatives’ deaths.” Jones has said more recently that he has “had a chance to believe that children died” at Sandy Hook.

Electronic material that Infowars host Alex Jones turned over to the families of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims who are suing him contained images of child pornography, according to a court filing Monday.

The filing also accuses Jones of threatening Christopher Mattei, a lawyer for the families, and his law firm, during an online broadcast of “The Alex Jones Show” on Friday in which he angrily claimed that unnamed people were “trying to set me up with child porn.”

“I’ll get your ass,” Jones said, before offering a $1 million bounty for information that led to the apprehension and conviction of whoever sent him emails containing child porn.

Jones, who is being sued in Connecticut for allegedly defaming the Sandy Hook families, adamantly denied having known that child porn images was contained in email attachments sent to his Infowars media company.

Jones said that FBI has informed him that there is no evidence that he ever opened the emails containing the porn, or that he ever sent porn himself.

And he implied that the lawyers for the families suing him were behind an effort to put child porn into his electronic files.

Jones’ lawyer, Norm Pattis, on the same broadcast said, “Somebody directed child pornography into your email accounts hoping that you opened it.” But Pattis said he would be “shocked” if the plaintiffs’ lawyers were involved in that.

In a filing late Monday, Pattis said that on the InfoWars progam on Sunday, Jones “issued a public apology to Attorney Mattei.”

“Mr. Jones apologized for the statements he made [during] the previous day’s broadcast saying, ‘I’m not saying that the lawyers for the Sandy Hook families set me up or did this,’” Pattis wrote.

Pattis’ filing also asked the judge in the case to stay the proceedings because lawyers for the plaintiffs have “raised serious allegations” about whether there are conflicts of interest between Pattis and Jones.

A hearing in the case, which already was set for Tuesday, will address the claims that Jones threatened Mattei and his firm.

“Threats against counsel have been made on air to a very large audience,” lawyers for the plaintiffs wrote.

“The plaintiffs therefore request that the Court review the video in advance of tomorrow’s hearing. Plaintiffs intend to move to seek specific relief on an expedited basis, but this is an issue that the Court should be fully aware of at the earliest possible moment.”

In their filing, lawyers for the plaintiffs quoted Jones at length to substantiate their claim he was threatening the attorneys.

After pounding his fist on a photo of Mattei, Jones fumed, “And then no magically they want metadata out of hundreds of thousands of emails and they know just where to go. What a nice group of Democrats. How surprising. What nice people.”

“Chris Mattei. What a good American. What a good boy. You think you’ll put on me what ... Anyway I’m done. Total war! You want it, you got it!”

The filing by Mattei’s firm said that Jones and other defendants in the lawsuit on May 21 turned over “a massive volume of documents” in electronic form as part of the discovery process in the defamation case.

In that case filed in May 2018, families of four children and two educators who were slain at the Sandy Hook school in Newtown, Connecticut, by lone gunman Adam Lanza accuse Jones of invasion of privacy, defamation, negligent infliction of emotional distress.

The suit claims that Jones and others have “persistently perpetuated a monstrous, unspeakable lie: that the Sandy Hook shooting was staged and that the families who lost loved ones that day are actors who faked their relatives’ deaths.”

Jones has said more recently that he has “had a chance to believe that children died” at Sandy Hook.

After getting the electronic files from Jones last month, the plaintiffs’ electronic information consultants then began loading those files into a database to make it easier to review them, according to the filing.

“During that process, the consultants identified an image that appeared to be child pornography,” the plaintiffs’ filing said. “They immediately contacted counsel, who immediately contacted the FBI.”

The filing said the FBI directed lawyers for the plaintiffs to turn over the entire set of documents to the FBI, “which was done.”

Afterward, “The FBI advised counsel that its review located numerous additional illegal images, which had apparently been sent to Infowars emails addresses,” the filing said.

“When the FBI indicated it had completed its review, plaintiffs’ counsel advised [Jones’ lawyer] Pattis of the matter and arranged a joint telephone call with the United States Attorney’s Office.”

The filing said that “if the Jones Defendants had engaged in even minimal due diligence and actually reviewed the materials before production [to the plaintiffs], they would have found the images themselves.”

Pattis and a spokesman for the FBI’s bureau in New Haven, Connecticut, did not immediately respond to CNBC’s inquiries about the alleged child pornography discovered in the materials.

However, Pattis told The Connecticut Post that while “Mr. Jones was upset, he did not threaten Mr. Mattei,” according to an article in that newspaper.

“He spoke in a compassionate fashion,” Pattis told the paper.

And Pattis, during a second broadcast by Jones, said, “We gave emails under court order to the lawyers for Sandy Hook. And that included metadata, or coded data, about the emails and what they meant and what they were associated with.”

“It is my understanding that the Sandy Hook lawyers then sent those materials to a California firm, to tell them what was in it, basically,” Pattis said. “The California firm spotted something suspicious, and did what lawyers are supposed to do. They reported it to the FBI.”

“For two weeks, the FBI conducted an inquiry, and I learned on Wednesday of this week that that inquiry concluded that no one here has any guilty knowledge of those emails,” Pattis said.

“Indeed, there is no reason to suspect anybody even knew they were here. They were not opened.”

Jones then chimed in, “So they are basically booby traps. They are land mines.”

Hmmm. Was he really setup? Or is he a pedophile?

Sandy Hook shooting: Father of murdered boy wins defamation suit against conspiracy theorists

HARTFORD, Conn. — The father of a victim of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre has won a defamation lawsuit against the authors of a book that claimed the shooting never happened — the latest victory for victims' relatives who have been taking a more aggressive stance against conspiracy theorists.

The book, "Nobody Died at Sandy Hook," has also been pulled to settle claims against its publisher filed by Lenny Pozner, whose 6-year-old son Noah was killed in the shooting.

"My face-to-face interactions with Mr. Pozner have led me to believe that Mr. Pozner is telling the truth about the death of his son," Dave Gahary, the principal officer at publisher Moon Rock Books, said Monday. "I extend my most heartfelt and sincere apology to the Pozner family."

A judge in Wisconsin on Monday issued a summary judgment against authors James Fetzer and Mike Palacek.

The fight against conspiracy theorists

Pozner has been pushing back for years against hoaxers who have harassed him, subjected him to death threats and claimed that he was an actor and his son never existed. He has spent years getting Facebook and others to remove conspiracy videos and set up a website to debunk conspiracy theories.

Lately, the fight has been joined by others who lost relatives in the Dec. 14, 2012, school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. After quietly enduring harassment and ridiculous assertions for years, some have changed their approach, deciding the only way to stop it is to confront it. Their efforts have turned the tables on the hoaxers, including Alex Jones, host of the conspiracy-driven Infowars website.

Robbie Parker, whose 6-year-old daughter Emilie was among 20 first-graders and six educators killed at Sandy Hook, spent years ignoring people who called him a crisis actor. His family moved to the West Coast, but still the harassment didn't stop. He would get letters from people who found his address. He was once stopped in a parking garage by a man who berated him and said the shooting never happened.

"You are taught when you are young that you ignore bullies and eventually they will leave you alone," Parker said. "But as time went on, and my other girls were getting older, I realized they weren't stopping and some of this was getting worse and getting more personal."

Parker, who is now part of a lawsuit against Jones, has testified before Congress and pushed for changes on social media platforms, such as YouTube, which announced this month that it will prohibit videos that deny the Sandy Hook shooting and other "well-documented events."

"It wasn't until the lawsuits and until it became a mainstream news story that people realized they were being complicit in this and started to moderate the content," Parker said.

Pozner is the lead plaintiff in several of at least nine cases filed against Sandy Hook deniers in federal and state courts in Connecticut, Florida, Texas and Wisconsin.

In the case against Jones, the families of eight victims and a first responder say they've been subjected to harassment and death threats from his followers. A Connecticut judge ruled in the defamation case that Jones must undergo a sworn deposition, which is scheduled for July in Texas.

Wisconsin's Dane County Circuit Court Judge Frank Remington ruled Monday that Pozner had been defamed by Fetzer and Palacek, whose book claimed, among other things, that Noah's death certificate had been faked, according to Pozner's lawyer, Jake Zimmerman. A trial to decide damages has been set for October.

"If Mr. Fetzer wants to believe that Sandy Hook never happened and that we are all crisis actors, even that my son never existed, he has the right to be wrong. But he doesn't have the right to broadcast those beliefs if they defame me or harass me," Pozner said. "He doesn't have the right to use my baby's image or our name as a marketing ploy to raise donations or sell his products. He doesn't have the right to convince others to hunt my family."

Before the case went to a judge, Fetzer had said "evidence clearly shows this wasn't a massacre, it was a FEMA drill."

"If you believe otherwise, then you are being played," Fetzer said at the time.

A redacted copy of the actual death certificate is attached to Pozner's lawsuit. Additionally, Pozner has had DNA samples taken and compared with those provided by the Connecticut medical examiner to prove that Noah was his son. He has put Noah's birth certificate, report cards and medical records into the public file in his legal actions.

His goal, he says, is to make sure that "normal people" have access to the truth and aren't persuaded by the hoaxers.

A Florida woman, Lucy Richards, was sentenced to five months in prison for sending Pozner death threats. She was also banned from visiting web sites run by conspiracy theorists, including Fetzer.

Christopher Mattei, a lawyer who represents the families in their Connecticut lawsuit against Jones, said his clients want to live their lives free from that kind of harassment. They also want these hoaxers to know they are affecting real people, who have already been emotionally devastated. "When the grief process includes having to justify your grief or having to prove your child's existence," he said, "it makes it very difficult."

Alex Jones is the embodiment of much of what is wrong with this country. The fact that he has a platform is a big part of the problem... not his problem, the problem is purely on the shoulders of anybody who gives him any credibility at all.

And if the child porn is his, let him suffer.

The problem is that he gets to speak his mind publicly? Would you rather have him rabble rousing from the shadows?

The problem is that people believe him and take what Alex Jones is doing and running with it. Sandy Hook truthers send death threats to parents, and it's is a horrible set of circumstances on top of the fact that these parents lost their little ones on top of it.

From the shadows he would have a much harder time finding millions of followers.

There was once a time, where crazies were left on the sidewalk with long beards, long hair, scraggly clothes, dressed like a priest, holding a sign that read "Armageddon is upon us" and we just walked by and paid no attention to them.

Nowadays, they have twitter.

No, the problem is that anybody follows him, supports him, reposts his garbage...

I would honestly have to question whether he is, in fact, "speaking his mind" or if he is knowingly peddling conspiracy theories and misinformation for the uninformed who gobble it up thus making him a pretty wealthy dude...

You could say the same about a lot of political hacks. I kinda like it when socialists tell their thoughts. I know who not to vote for.

Ok, I was just trying to tie it back to anything regarding my comments or Alex Jones... couldn't find any connection.
