We are raising--and nurturing---monsters. But let's all turn a blind eye to that and look for easy, generic excuses for violent crimes.
Agreed.
But allow me to digress.
The U.S. has
327 Million people.
It's inevitable that a tiny, minuscule percentage of humans are born mentally defective.
It's unavoidable and there's no cure. Almost always just luck of the draw.
Let's say it's .000001% of the population. (it's certainly a lot more)
Among 327 million that's 327 people.
Some of these people are at a level where they are walking and talking but not thinking clearly. (not interpreting reality very well ("normally"))
Add the fact that TV news loves reporting the most heinous crimes in living color, and it seems these things are happening in our backyard everyday.
We had a murder here in Rocky Hill earlier this year. First murder in Rocky Hill in over 10 years. (A town of ~ 20,000)
It was plastered all over the local TV news for days. Every morning.
People are like "Oh My God!"
Yes let's look for solutions.
I'm not the only one who thinks violent crime is tied to TV and other visual media.
Solution? I don't think there's a "cure all". There will always be murders.
If somehow graphic violence on TV, movies and games was sharply curtailed, that would help a lot.
Ain't gonna happen.
