Kind of a rare circumstance for us at the moment. We have a chance to SWEEP an entire division (AFC South) ... we beat the Colts, Jags, and Texans. Obviously the Titans will be the toughest task.
PLUS ... we could still sweep the NFC East if we can beat the Giants. How weird would it be to sweep one division, let alone two?
For you historians ... when is the last time we swept a division?! I can’t think of one.
Well Historically, before 1990,
Before the Browns returned in 1999 to make 31 teams in the league
and Before the Houston Texans iirc were an expansion team,
When Houston had the Oilers, before they moved to tenessee, Memphis, before Nashville and before
Before the Panthers and Jaguars became expansion teams.
In that time frame, the most recent two expansion teams, as far as my memory goes were the Bengals and Seahawks in 68' or maybe earlier not sure.
But, in 1986, It may not have been an equal opportunity to sweep a divison because each conference had only 3 divisions, A west, Central and East,
and in the AFC, there were 5 teams in the west and east, and only 4 teams in the central.
Was the NFC the same way? 5 teams in the west, east, and only 4 in the central.
So, it may have been impossible to sweep a 5 team division because you didn't play them all. I'm not sure.
