Anyone here do jury duty? I have done it 3 times and have been selected as a juror all 3 times. I just started as a juror in a criminal case today.

The judge had a great sense of humor. I was wearing a Steelers mask in the courtroom. After being selected to the jury and coming back into the courtroom for opening arguments, I found a picture of a Browns helmet on the back of my chair. The judge gleefully admitted doing this. Humor was much needed. This is a very serious case, and I think it's going to be a hard one to figure out.

Oh you're lucky to be chosen for the jury! And your judge sounds awesome.

I have been to jury duty multiple times and only went into jury selection once. It was for a murder trial. I didn't get picked for the jury. I don't think I would ever get picked for the jury because of working for law enforcement in the past.

All the rest of the times I sat in the jury pool room bored to death. It was so boring. I hope I never have jury duty again.

When I lived in California I seemed to get summoned for jury duty all the time. That's what it felt like, anyway (I think there was a set frequency, but I don't remember). The way they did it, though, was awesome. You show up and hang out from 8am until about noon. There was a ton of people that were there, and they called groups throughout the 4 hours. The expectation was that you stayed all day, but they usually had their juries more or less squared away by noon. If you weren't called, then you got to go home and your jury duty responsibility was considered fulfilled. I got called into a jury pool once. That took a couple more hours (we had to break for lunch). They started working through the jury pool and I was advancing up the line as they were dismissing jurors, but I ended up not getting selected.

California's method of jury duty is the only one I've experienced so far, but it sounds to me like it's the best (least intrusive).

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

oobernoober - I was there all day yesterday and no one was called until 2:00 PM. Not me. Very frustrating to say the least. All of us (340 people) had to show up today as well. I like California's method much better.

EveDawg - this judge has been wonderful at explaining things. This will be an interesting experience. And I agree. I am happy to have been chosen. Sorry you have had such a bad experience.

You won't hear me say this very often, but California runs a tight ship (in terms of having people satisfy their jury duty responsibility. I also only did it in San Diego, but I think it's the same throughout the state.

Waiting room is large, has magazines and newspapers, WiFi so I could bring my computer and work, and a little coffee/bagel cart selling stuff in the hallway.

For something that's built up as a right of passage you traditionally suffer through, I was almost disappointed how easy it was.

we had non-secure wifi as well. There was a cart selling sandwiches and Starbucks coffee close by. No newspapers or magazines, probably because of Covid. In our jury room, they have free coffee and cold/hot filtered water.

We didn't have any of that. Just a big room and a vending machine. We had to call the jury phone line every evening to see if we were excused for the following day. This went on all week until the trials were done.
