Flag Football is going to be in the Olympics.
This is very interesting because it will bring an entirely new audience to the game of football. It also will bring women into the sport.

Once upon a time the Olympics had real sports. Oh... so you wanna rock it Old School? OK. Let's play the True Purist, shall we? I'm sure you're not the only one who still regrets the demise of chariot racing. Or Pankration, when naked men fought MMA-style, covered head-to-toe in oil. I hear there's still a demand for that type of entertainment, in certain markets. Whatever makes your quiver shiver, I guess. Just know this: in ancient Greece, women were banned from watching those greazy, bulked-up doodz slop it up in public. So how "Olde Schoole" do ya really wanna rockit? Back to the good ol' pre-womens' rights days? Posting as someone who is not stunningly simple is also an option you could explore. _____________ Just sayin' for all: I really don't have any problem with new events being added to the Olympic menu. I remember how controv it was was when snowboarding events were added to the Winter Games... and they now draw some of the biggest crowds at every quadrennial ColdSports Games. Adding those events to the Winter Olympics took nothing away from the importance of any ski-related competition. Or Bobsled. Or Slalom. Or Luge. Or Biathlon. Similarly, I can't see any reason that the addition of something like flag football takes anything away from the gravity and legitimacy of basketball, soccer (futbol), rugby... ...or for that matter, any other track & field-based sport. Bring it on. The more, the merrier. Strong, fit human beings competing at the pinnacle of human achievement? I'm a fan. 'Ping Pong' is an Olympic sport. I'm OK with that, too.

I for one am actually interested in seeing flag football.
I have not watched any of it yet. I think it could be really good. I like the idea anyway.
I saw some four and four women play at the ProBowl. The women were really athletic and competitive.

I would have opted for Ultimate (Frisbee) over flag football. Much more exciting, a cross between football and soccer.
It's been Olympic eligible since 2015 but keeps getting snubbed. All signs were 'go' for 2028 until it was recently kicked to the curb.

Flag football is getting more and more popular at the youth level.
Lot of kids that we know are switching sports they’ve played their whole life over to flag.

What!? You mean kids are leaning towards a sport with less major head trauma!? Oh the humanity! (For anyone confused this is sarcasm.)

As a fan of UFC, I would love to see MMA added. That's a real sport. Not flag football. Or ping pong. And it already has a built in international fan base with international competitors.

What a great sport watching people beat each into unconsciousness.
I have been a boxing fan since I was seven. My godfather was a heavyweight. I did some amateur boxing.
MMA and UFC IMO are disgusting.
Right up there with pro wrestling.

In some people's world it's more about brutality than a sporting competition.

In 503 contests, 285 (57%) had at least 1 injury. In these 285 matches, participants experienced 401 injuries: 197 (49%) in professional bouts and 204 (51%) in amateur bouts. The match injury rate was higher in professional bouts than in amateur contests (68% vs 51%; P < .001). Amateur fighters had more contusions and hematomas (31% vs 22%; P < .001), while professional fighters had more lacerations (39% vs 23%; P < .001). Losers exhibited a higher match injury rate than winners (48% vs 24%; P < .001). Winners experienced a higher proportion of fractures (19% vs 9%; P = .005), and losers experienced more concussions (17% vs 2%; P < .001). Conclusion: Professional fighters and losers of MMA bouts exhibited higher injury rates relative to amateurs and winners. The prevalence of specific injury types varied by competition level, match result, and match winners versus losers. The results of this study may be used to better understand the current injury profile in MMA and to develop targeted strategies for injury prevention. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8010826/

It is a tougher sport than boxing, for sure. Clearly you are in the same ignorance bucket as bone. You've probably never watched it and dont know what MMA stands for.
The thing is, the Olympics make up their own rules. So it can be as safe as they want it to be.

There are huge differences between the two.
Boxing there is no kicking. The gloves have more cushion. When a boxer lands on the canvas he gets a count before he continues. The ref determines if he can continue.
Boxing the rounds are three minutes not five.
In boxing if a boxer is on the canvas the opponent retreats to the corner.
MMA they get a guy down and continue to pound the guy. They can choke guys into submission.
Both try for knockouts. Both are brutal.
The differences are obvious when you watch them. MMA and UFC are way more brutal.

You still dont know what MMA is. And the ref stops the fight if they submit or cant defend themself. Its no more brutal than boxing.

Summer Olympics hold no interest for me. I don't care what sports they add or take away. The winter games are much more interesting. I will say I do like watching the women's springboard and platform diving competitions.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

So your trying to say that there is no minimum time between bouts?

Im saying its not any different than boxing, judo, or wrestling. I'm saying the Olympic Commitee makes their own rules.
