From what I remember Kasper was a very good KO returner at Iowa. If we need some help there he should be able to help us. Has anyone heard about his injury status? We seem to be very top heavy at WR.

He will probably stick around past the first cuts... but his inability to get out and practice will likely see him leaving town with the final cuts at the end of the month.
I believe his issue is currently a hamstring, but don't quote me on that.

I was just watching (at noon today) the Training camp show on STO and it's funny you would say that Purp, they (Cabot, Dieken and the other guy) made the same observation.

They were counting on his experience but in his and JJ's absence, guys like Travis Wilson and Sanders have stepped up big.

My guess is that he doesn't make the final roster. Just a guess however.

Question for you guys.

If you had to choose between Kasper and Hubbard who do you keep on the squad?

I think I would keep Hubbard, Kasper is on the downside of his career and Hubbard has the potential to be the poor man's Braylon Edwards.

Not sure but at this moment, I'd say that Hubbard appears to have the greater upside....I think I'd stay with Hubbard.

I see Kasper as having a very difficult time sticking.

If someone (anyone) passes him up as the #3 or #4, he's done. The 5th and possibly 6th guys on the roster will rarely see the field, so a veteran makes no sense there. Those spots will go to developmental types.

Right now, and not counting Cribbs, I see:

Edwards
Stallworth
Wilson
Steptoe (backup returner)
Hubbard

And a final spot coming down to between Kasper and Sanders. Maybe. Even then, it's entirely possible that the 6th guy will be released when JJ returnes from PUP anyway.

All reports are that Wilson and Steptoe are doing some really good things in camp. Hubbard is this year's special project ...... but one who has enough measurables that a spot on the practice squad might be questionable as many teams have really poor receiver depth. I really see all 3 making the team.

If Sanders shows up at all in his new starting role ..... Kasper might as well pack now.

I'd actually say that Steptoe is gone and we go with Sanders, but that's just me.

Did you see Steptoe returnimg kicks?

The kid has a future in the league ..... even if only on special teams. (which is where 4th and 5th guys at a position have to make the team)

Why does everyone think six WRs will be carried on the roster?

You can get away with 6 because Cribbs is considered a Special Teamer first. It's possible we carry 6, but more likely it's going to start off like this:

1. Edwards
2. Stallworth
3. Wilson
4. Cribbs
5. Sanders/Steptoe

JMO as for now......Paul Hubbard needs to keep making plays like he did against the Jets if he wants to stay off the PS. That 5th spot will be tough.

Kasper was wowing the Coaches with his WRs ability early on...then the injuries. We don't like injuries and it seems for one reason or another Kasper just can't hang on with a team.

As for his return duties. Too many young kids stepping up in that department for it to be a difference maker. Steptoe and Lawson have looked good.

I too don't think he will be on the team. Early camp wows are soon forgotten. He can't stay on the field...what good is that when his role is to be a multi faced asset on the roster. Not an inactive candidate cause he's hurt.

That is true, but I still don't see us carrying six of them.

The other thing with Kasper is he's new with this offense. I have to believe Sanders and Steptoe both know the offense better than he does. With the time on the sidelines I don't see him making it right now.

Because theoretically Cribbs is a KR/PR/ST/QB/WR

Maybe he deserves his own roster spot. If Kasper impresses enough, we may try and keep Cribbs fresh and keep an extra WR to be in the rotation. Cribbs could only be utilized in special packages designed for him.

I dunno just a thought. It is just nice to be talking about quality players getting cut because we have someone better. That in itself is a great feeling!

I agree with your choices . I think it'll be down to the wire for Steptoe and Sanders. Step is a draft pick and works well in the slot, but he is very small. Sanders on the other hand is a big guy who works his tail off to get better. Wilson IMO has already clinched his spot if you ask me.

I look for the choice to go to the final cut down.

Why wouldn't there be? We're a pass first offense... it makes more sense than not carrying six.

here is how I see the roster in numbers per position:

K: 1
P: 1
LS: 1
QB: 3
FB: 2
RB: 3
TE: 3 or 4*
WR: 5
OL: 9
DL: 6
LB: 9 or 10*
CB: 5
S: 4

* IMO if 4 TEs are carried then 9 LBs will be on the roster and vice versa. It will be at these two positions that there will be a tough call. The tie breaker could be who is the better special teamer.

Well I got Steptoe's autograph yesterday, so hopefully it will be him.
