Report: Lelie voids deal with Falcons making him a free agent

Jay Glazer of Fox Sports has learned that Atlanta Falcons’ wide receiver Ashley Lelie voided his contract on Friday and is now scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent. He had play-time incentives that allowed him to void the final year remaining on his contract. This likely makes him the top free agent wide out on the open market.

Lelie became expendable when the Broncos traded for Javon Walker but wanted out before that trade was ever made. Atlanta traded, in essence, RB T.J. Duckett through Washington, for Lelie during the preseason.

Lelie played in 15 games for the Falcons. He had 28 receptions for 430 yards and 1 TD.

Lets not get this guy.

He never quite got to the level some of us thought he would when he was drafted.

Inconsistent.

Although I remember him burning Lehan pretty good in that Denver game a few years back when our guys where "playing their guts out" against a playoff team in a game that resulted in Portis getting injured.

This guy has a lot of talent, but I think his attitude/work ethic have really kept him from achieving more.

And before anyone says it: We DON'T gotta get this guy!

There may be people who have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.

Ummm, yeah we had this same exact discussion last year. He did nothing noteworthy in Atlanta and we don't need him and Braylon in the same conference let alone the same locker room. Fuhgeddaboudet!!!

Agreed. He's probably gonna want way more than he really is worth.

We so do not gotta get that guy.

28 catches, not even 500 yards and 1 TD, yet he met his performace level to allow him to void the contract?

How does a league celebrating its 100th season only recognize the 53 most recent championships?

The guy is a nutcase that loves to cause problems.

I heard that here in Denver, the Broncos are interested in him because Rod Smith is considering retirement. That'd make Lelie happy, he'd be a starter. Then, when he drops a whole bunch of passes and is demoted, this thing will repeat all over again.

I believe that a certain place would freeze over before Lelie would be a Bronco.

He is not a very good football player.

There will be no playoffs. Can’t play with who we have out there and compounding it with garbage playcalling and worse execution. We don’t have good skill players on offense period. Browns 20 - Bears 17.

We got other things to spend our FA money on, so no thanks. I don't think this guy is nearly as good as he believes he is.

We gotta get this guy!

Then we can have 2 overrated wideouts who can't catch the ball.
