Watching the Saints tonight, somebody posed the question.

And the season is only halfway through, but these guys just look too good right now...

Which of these is the best offense in NFL history?
single choice

Some of those Fouts led Chargers teams ought to be on that list.

Went with the Rams. I love Marshall Faulk, want to talk about a complete back look no further. Then Warner slinging it to Holt and Bruce in their primes, doesn't get much better than that.

Bro, you can't ask for the greatest team in NFL history then only mention post 1998 teams.

You gotta take into account the 49ers of the 1980's, the Bills of the 1990's, the Cowboys of the 1970's, and the Browns of the 1950's.

As far as greatest offense ever - I gotta go with the 1989 San Fran 49ers. - Arguably the greatest quarterback in NFL history, a future hall of famer as the backup quarterback, unarguably the greatest wideout in NFL history, a potential hall of fame wideout on the other side, a hall of fame caliber running back, and one of the best fullbacks in NFL history. - Won the Superbowl 55-10.

Then option 5 is the option for you.

I went with what I thought were the best, the most explosive offenses. These were the higher scoring offenses in league history, and the Saints are on pace with them. I left it open for the opinions of others if they thought those other teams were better.

Not saying they weren't.

Just a joke on my theroy that great offenses lend themselves to great defense,....

The 1985 Bears Offense. The D was dominant beyond compare, so the offense must have been doing its job.

That defense could have played for 60 minutes.. force a punt and give them the ball right back and teams still would have struggled to get to double digits... The reason there are rules.. is so you can have exceptions.

2009 browns

They are on track for a Super Bowl appearance next season. Only minor details remain to be worked out, like who will QB them to glory. But with Man-genie at the helm, success is guaranteed. The AFC North truly is a strong division, not because of Pittsburgh, Baltimore, or Cincinnati, but by the mere presence of the Browns.

Here is an example of their splendor, completing only two passes leads to a gritty 6-3 victory over Buffalo. We all know that an ordinary team would crumble under the weight of that kind of ineptitude. But to their credit they persevered. It was a triumph of the human spirit, and it was warning shot across the bow of the entire NFL: we, the Browns, can win with only two completions. Just think what can happen if the Browns complete 5, 7, or even 11 passes! We are witnessing the birth of a big brown and orange juggernaut. A juggernaut without a QB, but a juggernaut none-the-less.

The NFL has been warned

The 49ers dominated during their Montana/Rice/Craig era. That was an incredibly powerful offense to watch.

I'm finding this debate a bit funny because I've been saying that the most important thing to an offense is a QB that is smart and accurate....

And the QBs being discussed are Brady, Montana, Brees, Warner, etc... none of whom are known for being able to throw it through a brick wall or throw it 60 yards from their knees, none of whom are known for being amazing physical specimens that can break tackles and run over people... they are all smart and they are all accurate... they aren't lacking in those other areas but that's not why they are successful.

Yep. Smarts and accuracy are most important. Arm strength just has to be good enough.

Brady did break mannings TD record after one year but that is another notable offense with Harrison, Clark, Wayne, Manning. Cant remember if Edgerrin James was there.
