My wife and I are looking for a newer car, and really like Honda's. Anyway, we found a 2008 Civic Ex with 11,500 miles on it. Have talked to the dealer and we have a final price of $16,635 with taxes and title included. Most places have Civics at around $17,500 starting, so I was wondering what people thought. Good deal, bad deal? Opinions on Civics? Anything is welcome.

Yeah, it is a good deal according to the Blue Book as well. Just wanted opinions on that particular car and maybe some people have personal experience.

I have a 2003 Civic, and absolutly love it. I've had no problems with it, whatsoever, and I don't even notice when gas prices go up because I fill it up maybe once a month.

11k miles on a Civic is nothing. It should drive like new. The re-sale value on them also never seems to dip much. I remember I was looking at used Civics when I was buying, and most of the used ones were going for $14,000ish (several years ago) ... I checked out the newer ones and they were starting out for $15,000~$21,000 brand new. Figued I might as well get a brand new one, and talked a dealer down to $17,000 for a fully loaded version.

No offense, but Blue Book is usually "off" so to speak. They are too high on retail prices - and way too high on trade prices.

Now, maybe it's changed since I've been out of the business - but most dealerships work from NADA numbers. Here's a link: http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/2008/Honda/Civic-4-Cyl/Sedan-4D-EX/Standard-Equipment

In all honesty, I used to hit the car auctions quite frequently - and I never saw anyone looking at Blue Book value. NADA, yes, Blackbook, yes. The only people that used Bluebook were people with trade ins wanting to know why we wouldn't give them blue book value. That was easily handled by saying "because we aren't asking blue book retail for the car you want to buy."

Keep in mind, the reporting for nada is based on dealers numbers - the numbers that show up on the contract or bill of sale.

NADA is a much better "guide" - but it is also just a guide. There is no "end all be all" book for car values.

My wife has the 2004 Civic EX coupe, but I have an older truck that gets a little over 20 MPG and am looking to upgrade as I commute about 60-70 miles a day for work. My wife loves her car and I really like it to, so the sedan seems like a great idea.

That's pretty much the same car I have. I actually forget how fun it is to drive until I have to use a rental car.

I remember everyone talking up the 2010 Ford Fusion on here last year, so I tried it out when I had to rent a car a few months ago. It didn't feel any better than my 2003 Civic, which is 7 years older.

My 1994 Bonneville has 160,000 miles on it and is a pleasure to drive.

My 2000 GMC Sierra had 178,000 miles on it when I bought about 5 or 6 months ago. (from my father in law). I could've doubled my money had I wanted to sell it the next day. Honda makes good vehicles, no doubt. So do other companies.

Anyway, this is about the guy that wants to know if $16,600 tax included, is a good deal on a 2008 Civic EX.

Not having seen the car, not having felt the car, not having driven the car, not knowing why a 2 1/2 yr. old car has that few miles on it - I'd say it's a decent price. (as long as he's not buying it from a body shop. )

Lots of cars two or three years old have little miles on them because they were used as a demo or a rental car no problem there those are the best ones to buy

Notice I mentioned the fact that I didn't know why it had such low mileage.

Some cars are demos. Rentals hardly ever have that low of mileage.

So, I wouldn't say "lots of 2 or 3 yr. old cars have that low of mileage."

There are "lots" of cars that were in a flood. There are "lots" of cars that were wrecked. There are "lots" of cars that were owned by elderly people that flat out didn't drive them much.

(and by "lots", I do NOT mean parking lots - I mean "a lot")

And also notice I said it sounded like a good deal - but I also noted that without seeing it, driving it, and touching it, I can't say for sure.

It has a clean CarFax. And the pictures I have seen are great. Going to check it out in person and test drive it tomorrow.

They are rock solid and easy to repair. Test drive, and then decide.
