Been looking around for some- anyone know of any good places to buy within a reasonable price? I'm talking your typical neon beer signs you see in your bars are restaurants.

I've been looking around on E-bay, but most of the nice ones I'm looking at are in the $200+ range each, mostly in the $289 range.

I've checked out a few websites, who have had a huge selection, and they are ranging anywhere from $300-$500. I have a few small, cheap ones from my old bar, but am in the middle of re-doing the man cave in our new house now. There's a lot more room, and this time since we have a bigger house, my wife is giving me the run of it all. Imagine that, I get control of the 'man cave.' The last house actually only had a living room, so she treated the area away from the bar as the family room, and wouldn't let me place my Cleveland/OSU memorabilia and signs in that area.

So I'm looking for some nice neons to place in the bar area as well as the open area I have as you come down. I'm assuming the bars get them from the distributors. I thought about asking at some local bars how much they would want for a sign. A few I'd love to get my hands on would be some of my fav brews- Honey Brown, Blue Moon or Yuengling.

If you know anyone who buys or sells beer from a distributor, they might be able to get you one. Although they're a pretty hot commodity ...

Hmmm. Now that you say that, there is a guy at the gym who I believe works for one. He grew up a few streets over from me. I'll have to catch him one day.

I bought some from a corner store many years ago.

They got tons of them from the beer distributors, and the guy had a basement full of them that he wasn't using. I got a few at a reasonable price.

Never hurts to ask.

You might want to check with some local bars because they do tend to rotate them out, ask them what they do with the old ones when they take them down and if you could have one (even if you offered to pay them a little for it).

I bought some at auction before; sold them afterward. Garage sales and real estate sales turn them up. Distributors might be able to hook you up. I prefer the older ones me self. Good luck!

Check out local liquor stores. They are always getting new ones and looking to get rid of the old.

Have you seen the show American Pickers?
In their last show they bought a neon bar sign for $1400. Was pretty cool.

I saw that one! Neat old sign. I was glad it survived shipping.

This is the hardest way to do it because it takes a lot of homework and patience.. But watch for resturants and bars that are closing. You can get stuff from them for a song sometimes.

Basically, I'm saying to just acquire stuff over time instead of just buying things in a hurry...

Just a thought

Thanks for some of the suggestions. I actually went to a bar tonight for some wings and a beer, asked the waitress, who was going to get the manager, then never did. Actually she was quite good up until that point, then it took about a half an hour to get my check, pay and wait for my change. Then she apologized for not getting the manager about the neons.

Anyways, I'll keep checking it out.

He said he didn't want to spend a couple hundred per sign in his first post.
