A savage is a good starter bike and comes at a fairly reasonable rate. Can't really go wrong with that if your just starting out.

And whatever you get just make sure you feel comfortable on it. I mean if you are 6'5 and 250lbs you probably wouldn't want to be riding a Savage.

I started on a SV650. Great bike. It was so easy to ride, comfortable, and cheap.

Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

It all depends on what kind of riding you want to do.

Years ago, I passed on a Savage and got an Intruder. Best decision I made there.

As Tulsa said, it depends on what type of riding you plan on doing.
Do you want to race down the highway doing wheelies and acting like an butthole?
Do you want to just cruise along, maybe with the significant other, and enjoy the outdoor freedom?
Do you want to take long rides, possible long travel weekends?
How much experience do you have with bikes (dirt bikes, mini bikes, atvs, street cycles, etc).
How big/small are you?
What kind of budget for a bike are you figuring?
Do you have any preferences, option desires, brand loyalties?
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Love that quote there. Was down in Florida during Biketoberfest - I was in Orlando, not Daytona though. Saw waaaaaaaay too many buttholes driving up through traffic between moving cars - creating a lane where one was not intended. And way too many of those buttholes were still buttholes on the highway after we were stopped for over an hour between Daytona and Orlando due to a fatality and serious injury of another rider. I would think after knowing about the fatality - could see the body bag after they finally started letting cars through - that they chill out, but no! They kept buttholing it up!
Please don't be a butthole!

In my 20's I rode a single stroke Suzuki 400 with kick start. It was fun but on a windy day it was an adventure. Sold it when I moved and didn't buy another one until I was 49. Set out to get a Honda 750 Shadow but went home with a Honda VTX 1300. She's as nimble as a butterfly in slow turns and smooth at high speeds. I'm very glad I didn't go home with a that 750.

Just clicking
I loved my Triumphs.. Nice bikes,, Daytona 500, Bonneville 650 and a Trident 750.. the Bonne was the best.. Hands Down.
My first bike was a 90cc honda. then a 250 Suzuki. Neither was much fun, thus why I didn't stick with them very long.
How you plan to use the bike will determine what you should look at.

+1
I wanted something to ride around town, take long trips and be my daily rider if we had moved farther from work (which we later decided against).
For me that meant one bike....Harley Dyna. I searched on the internet and called all the dealerships for a late model Dyna with low miles and a short warranty. After many, many months I found her at a Harley dealership two Feb's ago. An 09 FXDB (Street Bob) in Denim Black. It had 2,300 miles on it and came with a 6 month warranty. They were asking $10,500 ($13,600 brand new). Bought it two days later and I've put 11,000 miles since.

Your best place to start is with the Rider Safety Course... and use THEIR bikes, for two reasons: 1. it won't be YOUR bike that you're laying down as you learn 2. They tend to have a variety of sizes/types of bikes and you can feel out what you like best.

I'm enrolled in the rider course for next weekend. Passed my book test for a learners permit yesterday.
Never drove a motorbike, but have raced bicycles for years.
5'10 200 lbs.( when i suck in my gut) Maybe i need to ride bicylces instead.
Want a street bike to maybe ride a 100 mile or so round trip to camp at a trailer .
Mostly just to ride around the development. It's a big dvelopment complete with a major river. Shenandoah.
I'm not wanting a Harley. Too expensive. My budget is $2000 give or take. so that means used.
Don't want a crotch rocket. Want a windshield and luggage bags to carry a fishing rod and pair of shorts.
told the GF I'm joining hells angels .
that got a chuckle................

Then you would love this bike. It's a 650 chopped out that my uncle left my dad when he died and my dad has had it for over 25 years just tinkering around with it here and there. Almost finished but he only tinkers with it every couple of years.
