Does this baffle anyone else?

I think McGahee's been pretty solid given circumstances. He's running on fumes, but he's still grinding out yards due to his vision. Almost makes you wish he was around to tutor a rookie TRich.

But I simply cannot see a reason why he gets the majority of carries over Ogbonnaya.

Is it because he's the fullback? Because he's not very good at fullback. He's below average. He presents far more value at running back. He's not going to make any Pro Bowls, but he's serviceable. In limited action, he's displayed some pretty good vision. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that he could give us 800 yards at a 3.8-4.0 clip.

I see no reason why these two shouldn't be splitting carries more or less evenly, and am curious as to what our coaching staff doesn't see in Oggy (or what they see in him at the fullback position).

Or, as long as I'm asking questions out loud, why Norv Turner is so adverse to running the ball with any modicum of consistency in the second half (where we've always gone in with a lead of some sort). Especially given the time bomb under center.

Maybe it has more to do with protecting the QB and picking up blitzes? I personally have no idea either, but just brainstorming.

Here's what I think I know:

1. Obi should get more carries.

2. McGahee has been better than expected.

Add that up, and I'm not sure what it means. I am little surprised that there seems to be a level of incredulousness (albeit small) that Obi isn't taking carries away from McGahee. McGahee has been a pleasant surprise, IMO. When Obi gets his chances, he seems to have a little bit of an extra gear that McGahee no longer has, but it's not like it's that much more. And McGahee scores extra points for getting tough yards.

Bottom line, I'm happy with either guy getting touches. At the same time, I wouldn't mind Obi getting more. The fact that he is not isn't holding us back, IMO.

I will say I've been a little surprised by McGahee as well ... even though we completely abandon the run in the 2nd half of nearly every game.

Before I answer, how many carries did each guy have in the last game? How many catches did each guy have?

I thought it was pretty even in regards to number of touches. But, I don't want to misspeak.

Since we brought in McGahee, it's gone:

MIN: McGahee 8 touches, 9 yards
Ogbonnaya 6 touches, 53 yards

CIN: McGahee 15 touches, 46 yards
Ogbonnaya 10 touches, 48 yards

BUF: McGahee 26 touches, 72 yards
Ogbonnaya 1 touch, 7 yards

DET McGahee 11 touches, 39 yards
Ogbonnaya 12 touches, 85 yards

Ogobonnaya has 12 carries in that span to McGahee's 59.

It would interesting to add up our running back totals and compare them to Richardson since the trade.

Thanks. Just remember this. Obi was hurt in the Buffalo game. Those totals should not count.

Look at the last game. My money says that those numbers are more indicative of how they split touches in the future games.

I think they see the same thing you see. It's all good, bro.

The game plan called for Obi to have more touches than McGahee in the Buffalo game but his injury ruined that

Interesting. Some telling numbers. Liars can figure but figures never lie.

Imo I think they "somewhat" soured on Obi when he 1/4heartedly tried to pick up/block Miami's Wake(I believe?) and Wake tossed him 15 yards short of the upper deck on his way to laying out Weeden. In a quick sideline shot it didn't look like he was addressed too kindly after the play. It was no doubt a huge mismatch, but still...........

No sure though. I really like Obi. Moreso as a receiver but still, he can run the ball. He**, in a game or 3, no one's been given the ball in the 2nd half which can certainly demand it's own thread.

Let this sink in..... On 12-31-23 it be will 123123.

Wow, That's frightening.

One guy can also pass block while the other couldn't. Willis can catch if asked upon as well. We also signed the wrong Rainey. Chris Rainey is a better player than Bobby Rainey.

Chris Rainey has an off the field issue of beating his girlfriend...which probably means other off the field issues.

Yup. They could have grabbed McGahee just as easily as we did, and kept the pick.

Our front office should be wearing ski masks or eye patches after that deal.

How does a league celebrating its 100th season only recognize the 53 most recent championships?

Ogbonnaya is actually quite good at protecting the QB both by picking up blitzes and being a dump-off option. That is why he is the guy in there on nearly all passing downs.

I agree with PDR that I'd like Oggie to get more carries (actual carries), but I also agree with Rish that it isn't holding our offense back a ton. I think we'd be a bit better if we could get him move involved, but not a ton.

Obi has to be the only player in the league who performs exceedingly well, then is given fewer reps. WTH is that?

Don't we seem to have a player like this on our team every year?

I think we should see if Indy is willing to move Richardson. Maybe offer a 5th or a 6th.

I really wish we would sign Kerwynn Williams off their PS (edit: he's now on SD's PS, was with Indy before) and watch him outperform TRich

He's exactly the kind of smallish back with receiving skills Chud/Norv seems to covet.

That or offer a late rounder to JAX for Forsett (also signed through 2014 at only 1.1mil) and give him half a season as the feature back, I think he would be an instant and visible upgrade over what we have now.
