Ok, so I just bought a new Corvette Z06 this weekend ( if i buy before 40 its not a mid life crisis right?..lol) So anyways, I also want to get a mid 2000's 3/4 ton with diesel... I really like the looks of the ford 250 SD, just better looking, and any Ford I look at will be bulletproofed 6.0 powerstroke. But the cummins is a towing machine, but dodge interiors feel so cheap..I don't really like their looks. And then you have the duramax/allison. I really like this combo but they are a little pricier. Anyone maybe give me some opinions on these from experience?

I can tell you right now that Allison is most likely thee best automatic transmission company for trucks, both small and big. I'd stick with Chevy to match that Vette.

I hate Dodge, but the Cummings engine is no joke. The looks, the interior and etc have always been "eww" to me. Ford powerstrokes, I've witnessed them tow some impressive loads and not seem to get too bogged down. Same with the Duramaxx Chevy. My one buds Dad has an older Chevy, rusted out to all Hell, but still runs like a champ with... last I knew, over 170k on her and she was rode hard in her early days as a Tow/Plow truck. Allison transmissions would be a big factor for me going mid 2000's type used.

Yep - I've got a 2000 Excursion with a PSD that has 150k. Still running STRONG! I don't drive it much (more during football season as it is my tailgate vehicle too), but it tows a 26ft enclosed car hauler pretty nicely.

I've always been a Ford guy - have a '93 Mustang Cobra (pretty much just a drag race vehicle) and a '65 Shelby Factory 5 kit car too. Strayed to Germany for my daily driver and I have to say Audi builds a heck of a car.

Amen to that! That is the only problem on my 2000 Excursion.

To hell with the Truck, tell me more about the Vette.. LOL

I love the new Vettes..

I've always been a GM guy, but there is something to be said about Ford Trucks. They have one helluva reputation for durability.

Chrysler is not something that excites me in the looks department. Also, I don't hear much good about them in terms of durability.

Good luck on your choice.. Post pics of the Vette please thumbsup

Ive heard that 6.0 is one of the worst diesels ever. I would hold out for the 7.3.

I'm sure someone here can help you. I have the same problems with posting pictures...

Can't wait to see it.

As far as diesels go.... Im a mechanic, while not a diesel mechanic but I know my way around cars and trucks. IMO Fords are garbage. I know 9 people with a duramax and they love them. I know 8-10 people with a Cummins and they love them. Cummins have transmission problems unless you go with a standard shift, they also have front end problems (be prepared to drop a grand in ball joints and other tie rod ends every few years). I also know at-least 6-7 people with Fords. My boss loves his but it is a 2000 with a 7.3, not a bad truck but its a dog. Another guy I know had two 6.0's put in his (under warranty) until he got fed up and made them find him a whole new truck with a 7.3. Another guy I know has a 6.0 and its in and out of the shop once a month.

If it were me id go duramax and not even think twice about it.

another tip. If your worried about price....Buy out of Texas. Used truck prices are considerably lower than any other state. When me and the old lady were looking into buying we were seriously considering flying there from Ohio, buying a truck and having it shipped back.

Funny you say that because I was looking in Texas on eBay. A lot of dealers from Texas. Yeah if I was going to go powerstroke I'd go 7.3 or 6.4. 7.3 puts me in older truck. I'm really starting to lean towards a duramax Crew. Pay the extra for piece of mind

I've got an '07 Duramax with Allison Transmission. Great diesel truck. I use it for work. Ford's in the past have had transmission and hauling problems. Will never buy again. Never had a dodge, so I won't comment.

Getting ready to get a new one soon. Good luck.
