Sen. Ted Cruz once viewed hard-core pornography with two justices of the Supreme Court.

That’s one of the anecdotes in the Republican presidential contender’s new book, “A Time for Truth.”

The Washington Post has this early look:

Cruz served as a law clerk to then Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist. One day, he was standing behind Rehnquist and Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

“We were in front of a large computer screen gazing at explicit, hard-core pornography,” Cruz wrote.

The reason? The court was considering a case challenging a law that regulated online porn. The clerks were older and not well-versed in the Internet, so court librarians set up a tutorial for the justices and their clerks on how easy it was to find porn online. Cruz watched as the librarian typed in the word “cantaloupe,” though it was misspelled.

“A slew of hard-core, explicit images showed up onscreen,” he wrote. “As we watched these graphic pictures fill our screens, wide-eyed, no one said a word. Except for Justice O’Connor, who lowered her head, squinted slightly, and muttered, ‘Oh, my.’”

Cruz clerked for Rehnquist in 1996 after graduating from Harvard Law.

Good thing they didn't try and find a Lemon Party.

I was hoping this was going to be about Ginsburg and Scalia, but it's just equally as good considering the justices involved.

I can't stop laughing.

Speaking of Scalia and not being able to stop laughing, John Oliver described him last night as a "chef statue in an Italian pizzeria come to life".

So the depiction of an Supreme Court justice of Italian descent as a pizza chef is okay? Nice. And here I thought racial and ethnic stereotypes were frowned upon. Does this mean that Little Black Sambo, the Frito Bandito, and Chief Wahoo are back on the table? Can we tell Polack jokes again?

If you're that wound up in political correctness that Oliver's one off joke offends you, maybe just turn off your TV.

Do you have any knowledge of the challenges that Italian immigrants faced here in the early 1900's? I do, my father, aunts and uncles told me. I never met my grandparents, the ones who emigrated. But I know they had very hard lives when they came here, and I also know they overcame it.

I don't know wtf John Oliver is, or care. But you chose to repeat his little joke, and that's annoying since you seem to be the type that likes to chastise any departure from the politically correct memes of current times. Apparently, for you, it all depends on whose ox is being gored.

Thank you for deciding who I am, but if you must know, I'm not too big on political correctness, especially when it comes to something as innocuous as entertainers. But good luck with just making assumptions about people and responding to what you think they might feel about things. That sounds like a reasoned and intelligent way to approach things.

And yet, still, nevertheless, you are the one who posted an ethnic stereotype as something you just couldn't stop laughing about.

What does me laughing at a comedian pointing out Antonin Scalia's resemblance to those ceramic chefs that adorn pizza places have to do with you making up assumptions about me and responding to what you guessed I feel about things? I'm not sure I see the correlation you're attempting to make here.

Situational ethics? Injured party? You're the one who got into a PC huff, not me. I merely asked a question - what is the correlation between me finding a comedian's joke funny, and you deciding who I was, and responding to said caricature? I don't see any correlation, nor can I extrapolate what point you were trying to make. Is it possible for you to answer that without getting all worked up and LYAO? If not, perhaps it's best to just end the dialogue.

I have never heard of him either.

Also, could you imagine if a conservative comic made fun of all of the stupid things Democrats do? Couls you imagine if a conservative comics mad fun of a liberal, mocking his appearance?

Such a thing would never be allowed to happen, of course, and if somehow it ever did, it would be called hate speech.

He's a British comedian/actor who was on The Daily Show for many years. He was the fill-in host for Jon Stewart, and eventually parlayed that into an HBO show that resembles The Daily Show, but focuses on a single topic every week as oppose to the scatter shot nature of The Daily Show. Thus far he's been quite adept at mobilizing his audience on a number of issues. Most recently he got into a very bizarre war of words with Jack Warner, one of the FIFA executives accused of embezzling funds from charity and taking millions in bribes.

It happens pretty much every single day in this country. Tune into "Red Eye" tonight (or, if you're looking for something that's actually funny, read a PJ O'Rourke article). The persecution/victim complex some on the conservative end of the spectrum have has always baffled me, especially considering their vocal disdain for such sentiments.

It must suck when you can't appreciate social commentary. I tune into all cable "news" networks just to see what's being talked about.

This is what you gleaned from me relaying a joke I heard on a comedy show? You sound like you'd be a lot of fun at a party.
