Offense:
I go with Duke at RB and Johnny at QB. I want to use swing passes to the RB and FB. I want to open up the middle of the field for the run and pass and Bibbs is gonna play over Housler as well. The Titans dont have a lot of depth on D and I believe we can wear them out but you gotta make them work. Make them chase plays. Hit them with Duke early and Crow in the 2nd half.
Defensively, disguise and disrupt. Keep the parts moving and make the QB read the play but we have to get pass rushers into this game. I want to see this defense turned loose on the QB. I bring pressure from every position and keep him guessing.

Rush he QB
At this point, if we can't get to him, nothing else matters.

I didn't get to watch last week's titans game before my family left for vacation, so I don't have much to say this week.
The only thing I can say for sure is that the game vs Oregon is what made me absolutely want Xavier Cooper. He did a better job of neutralizing Mariota than any individual defender I had ever seen. If he doesn't figure heavily into the gameplan this week, then I don't know why we drafted him.

I am still upset he was inactive last week. The only guy that provided a pass rush in preseason and he isnt on the active list. He and Nate Orchard both need to be in there.

I'm no Xs' and Os' dude but for once I will say this. Would love to see us finally make a rookie QB look like a rookie QB instead of a seasoned vet. We've been schooled over the years. Get into him, disguised blitzes etc so he don't know where it's coming from and shake his confidence early. Stop the run, establish the run. Everything takes care of itself.

Unless we can somehow get to Mariota I expect another loss. They have really good weapons at WR and TE ... and Sankey looks much improved.
We've yet to get to the QB since 99
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Just find a way to do two things, two things that I think will give us the best chance to win and two things we failed miserably against the Jets: run the freaking ball on offense and get some freaking pressure in the quarterback's freaking face.
*if* we can accomplish those two, I'd say a victory is very achievable.

Start JFF. Wake Haden up. Blitz Mariota a bunch. Deep routes. Center screen. Wake up the Crow.
I think we need to shrink the game some. We played many combinations, offered many looks on defense especially. Do well on fewer things. Simplify, simplify.
Flip: Open it up and be much more aggressive. Repeated middle runs got about flopped. Send Benjy or Gabe deep in first half more. If open, great. Gas the secondary.
Also: $100 per yard for every flag. Get all you want. Goes to buy your replacement.

I hate to sound all old school or cliche... but it's all about the basics. If we can't block somebody to open a hole once in a while... if we can't catch the ball when it's thrown to us... if we can't get pressure without bringing 6 guys.... if we can't NOT have a bunch of stupid penalties... then no scheme in the world is going to work.

Flip: Open it up and be much more aggressive. Not necessarily. I want to see more of McCown's 17 play, 80+ yard drives (without the fumble, of course)...

Disguise coverages and run a ton of man-to-man on defense. Mariota was able to pick apart because they were running a simple Cover Two scheme.
I don't know what to say about the offense. I think we had a ton of missed opportunities because our QB was not ready.

get physical, stop this playing corners 10 yards off the line crap. Bump and disrupt . Have to disrupt the timing. I think we can force coverage sacks if our corners play to their ability AND play physical. I also think we should do an all out blitz every now and again. We have to pressure the QB, have to. That all starts with our corners and my previous statement.
On offense, put Bowe out there with Benji and Hartline. Bowe would have to at least be accounted for and he is a much bigger target then Hawkins and Gabriel. Use Duke someplace else besides up the gut. It doesnt work when they have 8-9 guys in the box. Make sure Johnny or whichever QB has a plan to beat the blitz. I assume they will follow the pattern established by the jets and stack the box and bring the pressure daring our QB to beat them with the pass. So to counter that, use some drag routes and quick slants. Then work in the occasional deep pass to keep them honest. working like that for a bit will force them to unload the box and then smack em with some good runs.

Watch out for Sankey on the edges and be careful about single coverage on Delanie Walker. Haden should have no problem covering Wright 1 on 1 and they really don't have any other major WR's. So watch Sankey and Walker. Make them try to beat you some other way.
Their DL is nothing like the Jets. If we can't establish a run game on Tenn., we are in serious trouble. Use the run, play action and screen passes. Hopefully McCown will be ready to play.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Walker has an injured wrist and I don't think he's expected to play on Sunday. Wright is the type of receiver that Haden usually struggles with I think KW matches up better. JMO.

If I'm the coach, I don't do anything special based on how "good" they looked last weekend, nor on how "bad" we looked.
They played Tampa Bay - the same Tampa Bay that had us looking like a Super Bowl caliber team in Preaseason #3. They are really just THAT BAD.
Conversely, we looked HORRIBLE against a very stout front on both sides of the ball and we decided the record for penalties needed to have a run made on it.
I think our truth lies somewhere in the middle, and I'd bet money that theirs does as well. I simply do NOT believe that you will see Mariota throw for 4 TD's while they also run for one or more.
They come back to Earth, and we rebound.... it'll be a hard-fought game that will be a LOT closer than a cursory look at last week would have anyone guess.
Also: we will NOT succeed at trying to break our "largest comeback in NFL history" record.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

I hope we stack the box more and bring some pressure. If we supposedly have this deep talented secondary shouldn't we be able to bring the heat?

With JM starting, I want what I said. This coaching staff will need to manhandle, not manage this game. Last week was cuter, lots of defensive disguise, limited offense.
I want basic, want to be run heavy. Be vertical more.

Horton and Lebeau are gonna first try to use crazy blitzes to confuse then they will begin to drop everyone into coverage and make him beat them with his arm. its gonna be a real challenge. Johnny has a good deepball and the opportunity will be there for the big play but I really like the idea of lots of screens in this one. Get the ball into Duke, Beji and Gabriels hands and let their speed do the damage. Big TE target in the middle would be nice but he may be inactive again.

Don't commit 12 penalties, 2 of which were crucial becuase they were in the red zone?
Don't have your starting RB go 12 carries for 20 yards?
As far as the defense goes. I hope last week brought them back to earth. They more than anyone else, have alot of redeeming to do.
I think Pettine and O'Neil can come up with a plan to confuse Mariota.
As far as Johnny goes, I think he can have a really good game if the running game can be better. It's a young quarterback's best friend. Hopefully he learned about protecting the ball better. I wonder if they choose to go no huddle a bit. Dick LeBeau's record vs rookie quarterbacks is something we all know is really good. Johnny is technically not a rookie, but he's starting only his 3rd game. I wonder if the Browns might throw a little hurry up/tempo in the game plan to change things up.

If I'm the coach, before the game I run a montage of all the missed tackles. I go to Whitner and tell him to put up or shut up, he was horrible last week, and basically claimed the defense had no part in the loss.
I go to the Oline, and stress they need to hold the pocket, and for gods sake open some holes. and I tell them to get their heads out of their butts and play as a unit like they did last year Then I take all the offensive skill guys, and stress ball security. I basically say, turn it over and expect to ride the pine.
Then on a sceen in the lockerroom, I post comments from fans from as many sites as I can, and show them what the people supporting them are thinking about last weeks effort.
As for the game, I start Duke and Bibbs. I use a short passing game using TEs and RBs out of the backfield. If the run game works, pound it until it doesn't. On defense I mix in a lot of zone defense. The bump and run one on one coverage we run gets us killed. Wherever Wright is, I have a safety over the top. Turn the blitzers loose frequenly right from the get go. Then go to Whitner and tell him to wrap up instead of going for the highlight film hit. IMO, the Titans are going to try and run it down our throats, run blitz.

Even simple TE seam passes and slants. JFF will be a blitz magnet.

We tried to bring pressure last week and it didn't work. No, we didn't. We played basic vanilla D. I didn't see corner and safety blitzes. I didn't see full boat kill the QB all out rushes. There was ZERO urgency in getting pressure. And it resulted in zero sacks. I'm really starting to think that Pettines defense is yet another version of the NPD. No Pressure Defense we've seen from Romeo, through Mangini, to Pettine.... I think he probably hands out fines for sacks. If I'm the HC I tell Johnny he will be fined 10k everytime he runs past the line of scrimmage. He is to read the coverage, find the open guy and if one isn't open, throw the ball away. None of this run around and get killed bullshit. Because if he goes down, we have NOTHING. I tell my defensive coordinator if we don't get some pressure I'll be hiring a guy that WILL. Better come up with some kind of plan to KILL the quarterback. I tell my offensive coordinator that he better find a way to run the ball. A LOT. We had a running game last year. Difference is Flip. So I tell him straight up he either figures out the run game or I'll hire someone that will and he can go back to Oakland.

I love that line about handing out fines for sacks. LOL.
For me, I absolutely despise the 3-4. With a passion.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

I have always hated it. Always felt like we were a pretty good 4-3 team trying to fit into a 3-4 scheme. Still do. Give me Jauron's boring bend dont break compared to this any day of the week. If I had my pick it would be more of the Jim Johnson 4-3 blitzing style built with fast linebackers.

I just always hated having to draft College DEs and "hope" they can transition to OLB...
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Definitely agree having a 3-4 puts you in alot more predictaments of selecting "projects" say a DE to convert to rush OLB...DT to DE...etc
