His daddy, maybe.

A link the libs won't believe is actual news

In very short order, the family was under management by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization established – ironically, in a federal prosecution conducted in nearby Richardson, Texas – to be a Muslim Brotherhood-associated fundraising and political warfare arm for the designated terrorist group, Hamas. Ahmed lawyered up and he and his family were no-shows for scheduled meetings with school officials and with the police chief and Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne.

In fact, at the very hour the latter meeting was supposed to occur, the Mohameds and their Islamic supremacist handlers were instead holding a press conference. In the course of the presser, the family made clear that their beef wasn’t with the Irving school district or the police. It was with the city’s political leadership, starting with Mayor Van Duyne.

That message has subsequently become a staple of the Islamists. For example, local news on September 18th featured a quote from one, Khalid Hamadeh of the Islamic Association of North Texas, decrying “political leaders espousing inflammatory anti-Muslim rhetoric and creating a climate of fear.”

In an age where we have kids getting suspended from school for bringing butter knives or toy guns to class, this kid gets a tour of MIT and an audience with El Presidente`. What a screwed up world we live in, huh?

If you actually look into the story..

The kids dad claims to be a sort of Imam / religious leader locally..but even in the local muslim community no one really knows who he is. He sounds a bit nuts and grandiose.

The kid was accused of being a bomb maker and other slurs when he was younger and was upset by this.

The kid did this one day after 9/11. He showed it to his engineering teacher who basically said "don't show this to anyone else".

The kid put cables on the outside of the box rather than use the latch so it would be "less suspicious looking". He was aware it could be interpreted as looking like a bomb...and then made it look more like a bomb.

He expressed a desire to "impress" his new english teacher.

The "bomb" was only found to be suspicious when the alarm on the clock went off in the middle of class. He has to plug it in for it to work and had previously set the time on the alarm to go off during that class.

Creating hoax bombs falls under terrorism laws.

So here are the things at play here:

The kids dad likely put him up to it and the household is a bit crazy.
The kid was resentful of being called a bombmaker in the past.
Schools are notoriously bad about these things regardless of race, see white kids being arrested for making poptart guns and writing stories about shooting dinosaurs.

Really weirdly...the stories that get attention about race.. the person is often quite guilty of doing some weird stuff. Very legitimate cases don't become news stories for whatever reason. We seem to latch onto the somewhat more reasonable cases and ignore the treatment of legitimate innocent people. Be skeptical of the big stories, but don't ignore America having some legitimate problems around race.

You forgot his invitations to visit Google and Facebook...

I would pose a hypothetical....

You are sitting on a plane, 35,000 feet over Nebraska, headphones on, half asleep... then that cute, Erkel-lookin', little brown feller a few seats down, pulls this from his backpack, opens it up, and starts tinkering with it on his tray.... Based on this thread, many of you would comfortably go back to sleep.... Right?

**Disclaimer... no chance in hell he gets that through TSA without a big uproar, but let's play the hypothetical anyway...

Would I be uncomfortable? yes. I will never argue that the teacher and school were incorrect to express concern.

What i will argue is they, and the police, handled everything else about as poorly as they could.

Contrary to what some on here say, I know I am not a Racist or Islamophobe but I must admit I have found that I have some Racist and Islamophobe hairs on the back of my neck.

Seems whenever I am seated on the plane and watching my fellow passengers board, when a young male Muslim comes walking down the isle, those hairs start to twitch and stand up a mite.

Perhaps I should have them shaved. Perhaps my eyes blinded.

I'm trying to understand your logic here. He didn't bring in a knife (dangerous or not) or a gun (toy or not).

He made a clock.

This kid is obviously very science-smart and when you add in the obscene amount of publicity this is getting, everyone (especially those in high office or the science community) is going to chime in.

It's no surprise he's hearing from all sorts of people who want to cash in on this PR. I think in this day in age of social media and electronic information, NOT having a public opinion is frowned upon.

THAT's what is actually messed up.

So in the hypothetical, would you alert the crew? Do you think they would land the plane? remove the object from the boy?

Read the story again. This kid didn't make a clock. He dismantled an old clock and put it in a briefcase. How does that make him 'science smart'?

Seeing as size mattered to the kid that got suspended for this gun, I don't see why this muslim kid is getting special treatment.

Pretty sure him getting interrogated by the police for a few hours over a clock is hardly special treatment. I was just pointing out your lie.

Pretty sure him getting to go to the White House, Google, Facebook, being offered an MIT education, and being treated like some kind of a hero on the internet.... IS special treatment.

I think we need to identify those who felt everything went exactly as it should have.

Those that think there should have been cause for concern, but that concern should have quickly been dispelled once a halfway knowledgeable person looked at it. I'm in this group

And those that thing absolutely nothing should have ever happened other than the teacher give the boy a D- for Plagiarism.

This isn't righting a wrong, this is kiss-ass pandering.... righting a wrong is a sincere apology and a free NASA T-shirt.. not a trip to the White House...

It just falls in line with the Pope visit... think if the most important Imam in the world was coming to visit that Obama would invite a dozen gay and abortion rights activist Muslims and a handful of pig farmers? Yea, I think not.

Depends if David Cameron will be there.

*I agree that this situation has gone overboard, but I'm not cynical enough to say, "MIT, NASA, Google, et al., stop using your excessive money to make a kid's day!" I don't think what they're doing is right, but I also don't think it's wrong.

I still find this amusing.

If they really thought it was a bomb, why didn't they evacuate the school?

If they didn't really believe it was a bomb, why cuff the student and question him?

You can't have it both ways. One way or the other, mistakes were made.
