How did the Bills acquire Tyrod Taylor? The Bills have a real coach. That's the difference. Pettine is still learning how to be a head coach. I've seen enough on the field this year to tell me he's in way over his head. Hopefully, he knows this and is striving to get better. He has no idea how to prepare or motivate a team.

Here's the short of it. We can't run the ball. We're having great difficulty stopping the run. Those two fact make everything else much harder and the QB conversation simultaneously irrelevant and the only hope people are grasping for.
Unfortunately I think the problem is coaching and drafting. I agree with other posters that the defense suffers largely from scheme issues. Is the offense line employing much of the same zone schemes that worked so well last year? Or did we "fix" that?
I suspect that as the year progresses, if we don't completely succumb to injuries (which increase on bad teams) we may grow into a better team but we're still the NFL equivalent of an awkward 12 year old girl at the moment.

Yeah, sorry I didn't answer your question. Went off on my own tangent. LOL. I think he was a free agent.

thats what everybody was saying, including you. Whitner was an upgrade. thats what damn near everyone on this board said when we let him walk and signed whitner.
I've kept up with Ward since he left. a safety that can actual guard TE's?
we clearly don't like those around here.

My point is that he is NOT playing good. He can't cover worth a lick. You guys never noticed it because he got beat so bad that he wasn't even in the picture.
Additionally, he is a freaking turd. Terrible locker room guy. Too much partying, not enough preparation.
But, keep making crap up.

No, he isn't. It's close.
They are similar players. It's just that TJ Ward can't cover himself, no matter anywhere else.
Whit is really slowing down. He is approaching TJ's ineptness.
Wanna argue about TRich again, Rish? Remember those arguments when you told me how stupid I was?

Swish..............but, I have to admit I am really tired of all this TJ Ward love and all the hate towards Whit. They are so freaking similar. Both have the same strengths and weaknesses. It's just that Whit is more professional and not out in the clubs every night.

There's a guy over on the OBR that claims Whit likes to engage young ladies on Twitter, including his teenage daughter, in some not so PG type of talk.
Honestly, I don't want to know anything about these guys personal lives. I think it would completely ruin sports for me forever.

I'm not sure we can say we're better than anyone right now. Even Philly managed to upset the Jets, and they were a mess.

Quite true.
All I'm saying is that as bad/frustrated as we all feel today...imagine what those fans are feeling. Yikes.

FWIW,
PFF grades on Whitner (-3.1) and Ward (+2.0)
Oh, and the RB I wanted in the 2014 draft, Devonta Freeman, with a 30 rushes, 141yds, 3 TD performance. Nice

I know, but he still gashed the Cowboys D, didn't he? Speaking of Cowboys, Jospjh Randle was the mid round RB I mocked to the Browns the year before. He was their 3rd RB the past two seasons. He got his chance now and is doing good too. We got Terrance West. Stuff like this is just another reasons why the Browns are the Browns....

Randle hasn't averaged a 100 yard game yet. He got completely shut down in the 2nd half yesterday.
However, I agree about Freeman.

Donte Whitner is the WORST starting safety in the NFL right now. He was never very good to begin with ... now he's just an atrocity
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

This year he always seems late to the ball. If he's not hurt, he might be finished. Its ironic that would occur to me in a game that was clinched by 38 yo Charles Woodson's pick.

Woodson is an anomaly no doubt. Whitner trails his man all over the place, is late in support, etc. Just very blatant that he's DONE.

Can tell it's getting end of the rope time for his body. Thankfully I actually liked what I've seen from I. Campbell.

Except our coach has shown that he is not willing to play more talented, young players over less talented, more experienced players (unless that player is Dwayne Bowe). He has played Shelton, Crowell, Johnson, and Bitonio from the start, but there were no other real options.

Even if he is better I just don't think it matters anymore.
I really don't see him winning a majority of games, if any, and if he does they're probably still going to bring in another qb next year just so we stay in the perpetual qb controversy.

Negated by brain "talent"... so, it's a wash. Manziel has looked very decisive and under control so far this year.. and honestly, I'd rather live with a couple mistakes if I get a couple WOW plays per game, rather than watch what I watched yesterday... at least Manziel was entertaining... If neither is the answer, it might as well be more fun to watch.

You always play your supposed QB of the future even if he isn't necessarily better than the guy in front of him. The thought behind this is that with experience, the new guy will be better than the guy who just happens to have been in the league for awhile.
Pettine doesn't want to play Manziel. There are probably numerous reasons for this.
By not playing Manziel, the franchise is not moving forward. And that stands whether Manziel plays well or bombs.
It's an idiotic short-sighted move by a very inexperienced coach who really has no idea what he's doing. Whether handling the QB position or getting his team ready to play games. The team in general looks like it is not coached at all during the week. Pettine preaches "actions into words" and "accountability". How much accountability is there going to be for all the blown assignments yesterday? I guarantee you Whitner still starts. I guarantee you Haden still starts.
Pettine started off his HC career using catch phrases and trying to be a vet pleaser. He's now reaping what he sowed.
It's sad. He doesn't know what he's doing and he has no one to guide him. He might be a good one some day, but he's completely lost right now.

Aaron Rodgers hasn't thrown an INT at home since 1994. Look it up.
