http://www.wtvr.com/Global/story.asp?S=6524738&nav=menu79_2An Illinois family isn't so happy about what they got from a McDonald's drive-thru in suburban Chicago. Keith and Andrea Irelan's 8-year-old daughter found a bag of marijuana in her Happy Meal. The package also contained a pipe and a lighter. The Irelans took everything to the police, who traced it back to a 17-year-old employee at the fast food restaurant. He was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and was fired from his job. McDonald's apologized to the Irelans, but the family isn't ruling out a lawsuit.

On the ground of traumatic stress???
If I was the defense lawyer I'd go with the "intent to purchase" since they did PAY, and received drugs.
Might as well start making a mockery of the court system, since that is what it has become.

Seriously, weed and a pipe for the price of a happy meal? Sounds like that business isn't making a profit.

Kind of targeting the wrong people though don't you think? How many young kids have enough money to buy a bunch of burgers and sodas.

Wonder if the frie guys are actually named after french fries.
Funny, I've always said that if weed is illegal, then fast food garbage should be too. Which one causes more health problems and death every year. FAST FOOD by a landslide.
Now it can all be purchased at once?

There's quite a difference between food and drugs. Food doesn't alter your mindstate and judgement.

Let's not fix Mindset and judgement together.
I alter my mind all the time, it NEVER effects my judgement.
Well, now that I think about it, I guess when my brains says no more Oreo's and my mouth says YUUUUUUMMMMM, I guess that is my judgement being altered.

I think the big problem with the legalize pot debate is that by legalizing it, people will be more apt to smoke it like cigarettes.
I don't think 1 joint affects most people who smoke regularly, I do not smoke the stuff BTW, but if they were smoking them like cigarettes it probably would, then it would be like the difference of drinking 1 or 2 beers, and drinking a 12 pack.
And while seeing that someone is stoned is pretty easy, there is no breathalizer for it, and the pee tests would be invalid, since 1 joint a day would come back positive, but not prove they were impaired. So how do you regulate it?

Well, fast food is legal and people are apt to overeat it and become unhealthy slobs waiting for a heart attack. Alcohol is legal and people are apt to get waisted and hurt or kill others w/ their cars.
You think breathalizers and regulations are preventing all the damage people are doing through alcohol and fast food? No. Why is pot any different?
My point is, with the stuff that is legal, there are people that are safe & reasonable with it, and then there are knuckleheads that abuse it and do damage with it. There's no regulating that prevents it.
I'll stop there though. I want to go on about how the war against drugs CAN NOT and WILL NOT be won. EVER.
This thread was just about a Happy Meal.

The one and only problem in the legalization issue is that the government makes more money off of it being illegal than it does with it being legal. The day the government would make more with it being legal...it'll be legal. But there's not a whole lot of money in a product that just about anyone could grow. The only option would be to limit the ability to grow...and then you'd have quite the spit in the face of the free market going on.
If pot were legal, stoners would smoke exactly what they do now. Not many would pick up a twenty joint a day habit that didn't already have one.

Same goes for being on perscription pills that impair driving ability (which I'd equate a frequent smoker driving high to)...it's a valid point, but I think it's kind of nitpicky.

Read my post, I wasn't saying I was for or against it. I was stating reasons why it's not as easy as just making it legal, under the preface that I hear from pot smokers is that "1 joint doesn't impair me", and I agree with that, but you make it legal, so that pulling a joint out in public and smoking them while driving down the rode like you do cigarettes, and it will impair you, JUST like alcohol (which I stated in my post). Alcohol would be illegal too if they thought they could make it that way, remember hearing about Prohibition?? The problem with letting people light up where ever, is that how do you prove they are impaired? Like alcohol, it is visual, but when it got to the courts, a large amount of cases were thrown out for lack of evidence, cops word against yours, etc. Until the breathalizer came along and provided more concrete proof of your inebriation level, something they can't do with pot. As for the next posters arguement about over the counter medicines have the same effect and theres no way to prove that either. How often do you think that happens? Even so, if they are caught, they get busted if they are obviously high on it, and goto court, where it usually gets tossed out for lack of evidence. Again, I wasn't arguing for or against it, just stating that the typical pot smokers argument about 1 joint doesn't do anything isn't the whole picture of why it won;t be legal. If they truly were no more dangerous than cigarettes you don't think the government would tax the hell out of it?

Do you know how many jobs are created from marijuana being illegal? How many fines are collected? Assets seized? If pot were legalized, the DEA's ever expanding budget and personnel would be slashed, a whole lot of seized property and cash would disappear. Think of all that revenue and generation - the government benefits quite a bit from marijuana being illegal. If I can grow it in my closet? Not so much.

C'mon man you don't think that the war on drugs is free do you. Look at all of the money institutions bring in for housing "criminals who are there for pot. Lets look at the autos and homes that have been confiscated and sold. Where do those profits go ? Look at the testing industry that has sprung up. The drug war has become a big business and if you think for a second that the government wants that gravy train to stop you better think again.

So you think the seized property and fines more than cover the salaries, equipment, support staff, judicial resources, incarceration resources.... all used to apprehend those who grow and distribute pot?
Slashing the DEAs expanding budget and personnel, while it would cost jobs, would seem to save an awful lot of money...

That is not the American way . What are you a communist ? They have a public duty to sue anyone and everyone involved from the fry guy to Ronald McDonald himself . Think of all of that money they would leave on the table if they don't sue .

hehe, the only way the DEA is a break-even or money making operation for the Govt is if they are selling the seized dope out the back door, lol I mean,, have ya ever seen what Govt salaries are like and how many people it takes to do a single job? We're losing the war on drugs because there aren't enough people to staff it the way the Govt staffs things, lol "What's that? We need to hire one cop? Damn! My budget will be shot to hell after I hire his 3 supervisors, their secretaries, the manager above all of them, the comptroller and ombudsmen for the new department, the mechanics for the new motor pool that we'll have to build and don't EVEN get me started on Medicare and the cafeteria costs!" ^ A day in the life of Govt Planning ^

Obviously, as several have mentioned, the biggest thing about legalizing pot is the fact that you can't test if someone is actually stoned at the time. Perhaps you could stick a pint of Cherry Garcia, a Large pepperoni pizza, and some Mt. Dew in front of them and see what happens. I don't buy the crap about the government not being able to make money off of weed if it was legal. Just think about how much money they make from taxing alcohol and tobacco products.
Also, the argument about people just growing it and not buying any from stores is completely bogus. How many people do you know that grow their own tobacco in their backyard? Marijuana plants take a while to grow and also require some skill to do so. The majority of people aren't going to waste their time growing plants if they can just walk to the store and pick up a pack of blueberry joints.
Anyway, I think I'm going to head to McD's and see if I can get a extra happy meal.

Oh, most definitely. Millions and millions and millions in the seized assets and fines assessed to drug dealers (not to mention the piddly dealers when they get rung through the cleaners). Money, cars, property. Who do you think takes the dealers' Porsche and his house and his bank account when the big bust hits? Not to mention, the more cash you have, the more often you see plea bargains where the dealer gets fleeced for cash and assets but avoids jail...just starts up right where he left off and gets picked off a couple years later with more cash. I got a buddy with DEA ties...some of this stuff would make your head spin.
Remember...there's more money in illegal narcotics than just about anything.

Ok, I understand that all of that stuff happens, and maybe I'm just uninformed... but I always associated the Porsches and the mansions and the yachts etc with the coke and heroin dealers moreso than the simple pot peddlers...
